The Piercing Truth

This is right from the dictionary and seems to describe Albuquerque, Berry and Schultz. Fascism (f ash ,izem) noun An authoritarian right wing system of government and/or social organization. (in general use) extreme right wing, authoritarian, chauvinistic and/or intolerant views or practices. Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one group over another, national, ethnic, especially social strata or monetarily; a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach. Eye Poll: Keep it Easy

So much for suspense. Unlike other Eye Polls, this one was never even close. In fact, we're pretty sure the votes not to change the charter to make it more difficult to recall a councilor never dipped below 90%.

The final tally of our unscientific poll of 149 Eye On Albuquerque participants... 92% believed that the current rules for recalling councilors (and mayors) should remain the same, 6% believed it should be made harder (thank you councilors Loy and Harris for your participation) and 2% either didn't know or didn't care. We don't believe that these results would be too far off a poll of the general public, certainly not enough to predict a charter change come October. Looks to us like councilors will still be directly accountable to their constituents for the foreseeable future and will not have the protection of a friendly mayor or city clerk.

This week's Eye Poll takes on the question of whether councilors should receive additional compensation. Don't forget to vote!

Should be paid hourly rate like most folks! How many hours do they put in????

Anonymous said...

They need to be paid enough that people can afford to serve. Otherwise you end up with a mind set of those who are affluent enough to dabble in city politics just to amuse themselves.

How does a City Councilor, who has no other job, and no other documented income, has no other assets and does not own a home, live on $9,200 a year?
Answer:
Let your imagination answer that one.

which councilor doesn't have a "day job"?

Anonymous said...

Heinrich doesn't have a day job, at least that is what I have heard.

Harris' is an attorney, but I doubt that he can have much business, he doesn't seem to bright.

O'Malley sucks her money off the City, or does she make money some other way? Does anyone know?

City councilors should be paid a little better. They put in a lot of time and we want people there who otherwise may not be able to afford to even run for office. Someone who actually can represent the majority of us who have to work for a living. I believe 33% of what the mayor makes is fair. I think in comparison to what we pay the mayor city councilors are pretty much volunteering for that job how many folks can actually afford to do that? I couldn't.

I heard O'Malley worked for the Sawmill Community Land Trust.

the bottom line is you get what you pay for. if we want decent hard working councilors we need to be prepared to pay them well.

any "proportion" of the mayor's salary is arbitrary and indefensible.

although they probably can't be paid an hourly wage, that is basically what we are talking about; some expectation of the number of hours of service at a reasonable rate of compensation.

Paying a higher salary wouldn't change the caliber of people who serve. Had we done so in the past, we'd have the same 9 people we have today. Only difference is, it would be $20,000 they wouldn't have to scam the taxpayers in kickbacks from the fees and taxes launched upon us by the Redflexes and other companies that are handed contracts that provide devices to monitor and control the masses and their pets.
" NO SOUP FOR YOU"
Dictatorial little mental midgets
that, with the possible exception of two, couldn't get a job pushing a broom or cleaning a zoo cage in a real city, say Chicago or New York.
Get real Albuquerque. "You get what you pay for"? City employees (Directors-political appointees) who currently make 10 times that of a City Councilor are a crooked as a dog's hind leg. So please, enough with paying them more. They are already helping themselves to the taxpayer trough just fine.

hmmm....5 hours/week average.....33k per year.....that's $126 per hour! Are you nuts!!!!!!!&*^$#$%^

Anonymous said...

Any of you who think the councilors don't work a lot more than 5 hours are NUTS. I may not like all the councilors but I can't say they are lazy. They deserve to make more.

Anonymous said...

That's fine as long as they keep their hands out of the cookie jar.

Anonymous said...

Their hands? Do you even know how the budget is done? Apparently not. The Mayor and council approve the budget together.

Anonymous said...

Apparently, you are difinitely missing the point. You're talking about 'above board'. I'm not.

Go back to reading about how aliens landed in Roswell and then killed JFK from the grassy knoll.

If you don't trust any of these folks then vote them out, run yourself or move where you do trust them.

Anonymous said...

I have voted against them. Obviously you don't know about SOME of them. Your's maybe someone you can trust to do the right thing. As far as Roswell & JFK, again you're barking up the wrong tree as well. I'm not one of your relatives.

wow this place is getting nasty...

I would say that the councilors work a lot more than 5 hours, however the quality of their work is not always worth more, but if we look at it from a strictly hourly wage viewpoint they probably ought to get more.
Interesting how all the councilors have good and bad on their watch. Loy is a decent guy with a good background but he is superglued to the red light cameras.
Sally seemed sort of OK (but ditzy) until she wrote that asanine HEART ordinance, Heinrich (SP?) seemed sort of liberal but ok from afar, then I met him and he was an elitest TOOL, making it aapparent that he believed anyone who had spent time in a uniform was beneath him. Met him again recently in my civilian job and he was sweet as pie and didnt act like I wouldnt get the big words. Personally I think I should run for council but I live in a district where I could not get elected.

Really? Try District 7. At this point Casper the Ghost will do just fine.
After all you can't do worse, even if you ARE invisible. Nothing would change. Just like now, you wouldn't have to do anything. Distrct 7 has turned into a ghetto. So, you could just kick back and pass more legislation that taxes and fees us to death. It's yours for the taking. Literally.

Well, let see, how about someone checking into Sally Mayer's boyfriend getting contract work off the city for sitting on his behind, and now former APD DC's (Sally's other boyfriends) paul and fowler? They will not let the city tittie go!!! They are all sucking away at our tax dollars, what a disgrace

Anonymous said...

Poor Ed, the only reason he hasn't gotten a contract is because he was never really any good at anything except chasing skirt and this Chief don't play that!!

Anonymous said...

Does APD have an rule regarding adultery like the military does? I know in the past they didn't and that just was not right. If as a command officer, if you fool around with another persons spouse you should lose your job.

Does anyone know if this has ever been enacted at APD?

Anonymous said...

Not even as a command officer. Is should be for every officer.

Anonymous said...

Well now, this should open up a whole new can of worms shouldn't it? What a cat house. An example that is set at the very top, where everyone is poll vaulting on their middle leg.

Oh please! In that case they should have impeached President Clinton for his Lewinsky fling! I don't believe your employer should be that involved in your personal life. Who you sleep with is your business.

Is it? What if you are having an affair with a subordinate? Doesn't that effect your professional life? If you are doing this stuff one duty, that means you are not working at what you are supposed to be working at. This crap of "its my personal life" doesn't fly. Have some ethics or at least have rules that have consequences.
