The Piercing Truth

This is right from the dictionary and seems to describe Albuquerque, Berry and Schultz. Fascism (f ash ,izem) noun An authoritarian right wing system of government and/or social organization. (in general use) extreme right wing, authoritarian, chauvinistic and/or intolerant views or practices. Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one group over another, national, ethnic, especially social strata or monetarily; a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach. Flag Flap - Update

Our Eyes tell us that Peter Ryan Lynch infamous Mexican flag ripper and some (including us) would call patriot, is scheduled to appear before Judge Clyde Demersseman this Wednesday, October 3rd at 8:30 am. The charge of course is criminal damage to property stemming from Mr. Lynch's removal of the Mexican national flag from a UNM flag pole that was being improperly flown by the university no matter who is to blame or how many people screwed up and left it flying unaccompanied by the flag of the United States.

Our understanding is that Mr. Lynch has since tried to replace the Mexican flag in question, but the offer was rejected by El Centro de la Raza, the student organization whose flag was torn (and who either intentionally left it flying or "forgot" to take it down) summarily rejected the offer. If there's damage here we believe that the first organization responsible for the damage is the one claiming victim status, El Centro de la Raza. After all, they were the ones who raised the Mexican flag; they should have been responsible enough to lower it at the end of the day.

In other related news, our Eyes tell us that a group of veterans is planning a motorcycle rally in support of Mr. Lynch. The rally is to take place outside of The Pit during the inauguration of new UNM President David Schmidly. The group is reportedly going to try and present President Schmidly with the flag of the United States of America.

According to our Eyes, Sheriff Darren White (a veteran himself) has asked to be included in the rally which will no doubt put additional pressure on Mr. Schmidly to receive the gift being offered by the veterans. In addition, APD's motorcycle officers have asked to be relieved of traffic duty a little early at the Balloon Fiesta in order to attend and Chief Ray Schultz is said to have asked to be included.
(Sidebar)
It's a little odd that Chief Schultz would want to attend in light of the recent APD SOP debacle that in effect made Albuquerque a Sanctuary City. One of the groups over at UNM, Estudiantes Contemporáneos del Norte, seems to advocate not only flying the Mexican flag over most of what is New Mexico, but the overthrow of the U.S. government through illegal immigration; a policy that is certainly aided by APD's newly adopted SOP.
(End Sidebar)
We haven't heard exactly what the plans of the veterans are, but we do know that they'd like to see as many people down at the Pit as possible. We'll keep an Eye on it and let you know as soon as we do.

Where did you get your information that El Centro or any other student organizaition, aside from ROTC, had the responsibility of raising and lowering the flag(s)?

I see you've included a link to El Centro de la Raza's website. Have you taken the time to read what's on the front page?

The following is from a letter submitted by Lt. Col. Erik Sevigny to the Daily Lobo regarding the "miscommunication" that led to the Mexican flag being left flying alone.

There are very few organizations where diversity is welcomed, celebrated or as important to the organizational culture as the U.S. military. In today's operating environment, service members also fully recognize the importance of their allies and the need for cultural awareness. Today's military members are often called to work with coalition partners and among various cultures while operating throughout the world. For our unwitting part in this deplorable event, I would like to apologize on behalf of my students, the Army ROTC department and myself. However, our part was due to an act of omission and not one of malicious intent. The Army ROTC students have taken steps to improve communication with other student organizations and within their own ranks to reduce the chance of such an event occurring in future.

from Daily Lobo

Or how about this?

It is interesting that the Army ROTC did not know how to handle the ceremonial responsibilities that go with the honor of posting and striking the colors. It would have been better to have taken the Mexican flag down first and returned it to La Raza or left 'Old Glory' flying, than to do what they did. The ROTC leadership needs to apologize to the UNM community and the citizens of US for the insult tendered by this lack of knowledge. And maybe they ought to impose extra laps or pushups on the color guard members who "forgot" their responsibility to post the US flag on Constitution day.

from Blogspot

And, finally, the cherry on top;

"I say next time the fucking wet-backs march down our streets we load up on Keith’s semi and fly my garrison sized US flag then we drive threw the fuckers!"

The now deleted MySpace Group posting (PDF)

The link to this PDF is also on El Centro de la Raza's front page. If you look it up on MySpace, it won't be there, it has since been deleted.

As you can see, there is so much more to this story than just buzzwords and a bunch of pissed off Mexicans. Forget his actions, judge his motivations (since everyone is throwing judgement left and right)..

In a legal system where "guilty" means "what they can prove you did", Peter Lynch might get off with just a slap on the wrist.

But only he knows what really motivated him to do what he did - and the way he did it.

As a decorated veteran, he should have gone up the chain of command at the ROTC and demanded the flag situation be fixed.

How much more effort could it have taken to contact the Commanding Officer of the Commanding Officer at the UNM ROTC?

Why not stomp and yell in the UNM President's office until something was done about it?

Why didn't he return the flag to El Centro de la Raza directly?

Why did he take it upon himself to perform the symbolic gesture of ripping up a foreign flag?

No one will ever know -- except Peter Lynch ... and God.

The flag ripping is just a "Red Flag", the MySpace Videos of him shooting an M-14 and two other guns at an image of an African American Man is simply chilling.
