The Piercing Truth

This is right from the dictionary and seems to describe Albuquerque, Berry and Schultz. Fascism (f ash ,izem) noun An authoritarian right wing system of government and/or social organization. (in general use) extreme right wing, authoritarian, chauvinistic and/or intolerant views or practices. Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one group over another, national, ethnic, especially social strata or monetarily; a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach. Property Crime Series

Just last week the Albuquerque Journal ran a story (Subscription) that placed Albuquerque at the top of the crime list (read our take here). Today we got word from our Eyes that the Journal is planning to run a series on Albuquerque's problem with property crime. The word is that the series will start sometime over the weekend. We touched on the subject back in August.
"What we do know is that Albuquerque has a serious property crime problem. Back in June, The Albuquerque Journal reported (Subscription) that 2006 was a "banner year" for property crime. Over 5,000 vehicles were stolen and more than 6,000 homes were broken into. That's almost 14 vehicles per day and almost 17 homes per day."
You can bet this series will be none too popular with the folks on the 5th and 11th floors. This is the type of story that kinda tarnishes a city's image; especially with so many people in town for the Balloon Fiesta.

In fact, we were kind of surprised that the Journal was going to run the series at all in light of the historically cozy relationship they've had with the Almighty Marty and crew. Perhaps the mind control serum is starting to wear off. But, it's more likely just getting too hard to continue to drink the cool-aid when it contains so many ridiculous ingredients like: it's not "profit," it's "excess money" (Subscription). Or, the ever popular "this is not a dangerous place" (Subscription).

Why would it not be popular? The police department recognizes that property crime is the biggest crime issue facing the City. As a matter of fact property crime is the top priority and has been. The City and department were in Santa Fe last legislative session pushing for enhancements to the auto theft laws. It was the legislature that refused to move the proprosals out of committee. The department has hosted numerous VIN etching events throughout the year and continues to do so. Every investigative supervisor must attend a mandatory property crime meeting each month and are held accountable for identifying solutions (much like the NY COMSTAT program of the late 90's). Look at who is committing these property crimes? REPEAT OFFENDERS. The police are arresting them. It is the courts and prisons who are the ones who should be worried, they are the ones who control the revolving doors and are letting them out.

Come on EYE, give credit where it is due and critize the ones who are allowing the system to fail.

Ok, so if it's not a dangerous place to live, why does Marty have a bodyguard everywhere he goes? (It sure isn't to protect him from the hordes of adoring fans trying to rip his clothes off or anything, and I've not seen any paparazzi hanging out here either).
When I see the little fuhrer out at night, in the middle of his city, alone, then I'll believe it is safe here......

Great point, he has several body guards while we work our tails off taking calls for service. Ray is just a puppet saying what he is told to say. The 1st post is from the 11th floor. We aren't stupid!!

Say there, "Just an Oldtimer" (1st post),
why, if property crime is such a priority for the APD, did I read in this very blog a few months ago about an officer in the Northeast district getting "Officer of the Month" honors, for citing folks with the anti-RLC license plate covers? Does that mean that there is no property crime in the Northeast quadrant of the city?? So crime-free is it that in order to justify their existance, they must resort to picayune enforcement of license plate obscurement statutes (I'll bet none were written for mud, towballs, or bicycle-carriers by the stellar performer)??

No, I know that the NE has plenty of property crime incidents, but since the Mayor and the Chief have placed a ridiculous amount of priority on petty traffic enforcement, party patrols, and looking the other way when illegal aliens are involved, the hard-working, industrious folks who break into our homes and steal our cars have got pretty-much free run of the place.

BTW, my "oldtimer" status dates from 1960 in this town and I can tell you that Major Marty and his merry band of sycophants have been the worst leadership this town has seen since those days. And I remember Jim, Louie, and Ken.

Clyde must be spinning in his grave.

Let's not forget the Mayors daughter is part of the "Property Crime Statistics". Once a thief always a thief.

Yea... but remember she was exactly $.02 under a felony. imagine that!

I don't believe that crap for a minute. Get those fat ass cops outta the coffee & lunch shops & do some patrols. They are not doing their jobs, if they were the stats would go down. When was the last time you saw a radio car in your neighborhood, just patrolling? Hell, I see em' stacked like cord wood in the sandwich & coffee shops. Go get em' Chief, you're doing a good job!

Last poster - here is a question; in your profession are you allowed lunch breaks? No? Wow you really work hard! Wish we were all as cool and as tough as you are. Now turn that angst to a good use and go start a neighborhood watch, since you obviously have the time to do something good for your community.

A few posts up. APD Officers work hard at trying to catch as many crocks as they can. Its just that the shifts are not properly staffed to take the calls that are now generated within this city.

Get off your behind and call the mayor's office and tell them we need more cops on the street.

Also, call the 5th floor and tell them to get all those desk riding cops out into the streets. I have always wondered why 65% of their force are assigned to inside jobs???????

Oh,,,, by the way, unless they give them a large raise you won't see anyone knocking down the door to join! Tell the mayor to pay them.....Remember,,, you get what you pay for!!!

Use all that red light money for public safety!!! We don't need anymore parks or street cars....

Aaaagggghhhh......!!!!!! I have to agree just a little on this Lunch/Breakfast thing here. APD/AFD/BCSO all DO stack up like cord wood at certain restraunts. I know what is coming next. We have shift exchange or exchange vital information blah, blah, blah. I have another take to it. I once asked a waitress about the high frequency of visits on a daily basis from both APD/AFD at one of my favorite neighborhood mexican restraunts (Garcias) in Taylor Ranch. She said once both departments and or all departments find out that they (the Business) are kind to give half off to Police/Fire they will come from miles around. That is not what bugged me the most. She went further to say that for the most part they get great service, great food, usually come in volumes of people and leave shit tips if any at all. Feel free to insert the ol' "don't like it quit and find another job" here. I looked into APD/AFD SOP, and SOG's it clearly states in both departments SOP's that this practice is not allowed. Yes you can have lunch, dinner, and breakfast. Is it so hard to ask that public servants pay full price, leave a tip, and ooh by the way patrol a few residential streets after chowing down some Huevos Ranchero w/ green chile? That is all we are asking. Keep Up the Good Work!

While most all are asleep and the vast majority of restaraunts closed (graveyard shift) officers are working. It may only be fifty or less citywide who are responding to calls for service and do not the opportunity to patrol neighborhoods. The short staffing is during all shifts, particularly swing and grave. The general public isn't aware of this because they are asleep and do not see it. Reality hits them when the awake and find their vehicle stolen or their property vandalized. Then day shift units have to respond to take reports and again cannot be proactive by patroling. It's a simple fix...pay those that put their life on the line daily (any call an be dangerous and there is a 40% increase in "in the line of duty" fatalities nation wide) a competative wage and the number of officers will increase allowing for more proactive policing. Continue on the current path and we will see more crimes and more violent crimes.

EVERYONE go to FUNDAPD.com and tell the mayor to get with the program, this ad ran in todays paper page B6

Ok, enough of this shit already.
Marty, pay the cops.
Ray,keep you nose out Marty's ass.
Cops, look for the assholes instead of waiting for a call.
Citizens, organize a neighborhood patrol.
Just recently we has a rash of car vandals spraying paint on people's cars all over the N.E.
If they're out there then so should the police in force and in huge numbers. We really need more undercover cars inside the neighborhoods.
Now, if the illegals, the gangs, the car thieves, the vandals, the home invaders and the murderers don't get the message SOME HOW and fast, then the public at this point needs to excercise the second ammendment and protect themselves.
It's called vigilantism. So what.
So be it. Kill the illegals the vandals, the home invaders, grafitti bastards and for sure all of those little shaved head gang banging sons of bitches. If everyone armed themselves and started killing these assholes the problems we face would damn well cease.
THERE. Enough already.
PROBLEM SOLVED.

Right F_ _ King on!!!
We have no problem hunting animals.
I say open season on illegals, and the rest of this crime infested bunch.
smoke 'em out, track 'em down and kill 'em. Just take the bodies to the dump. They won't be missed by anyone.

That's how the Mafia handled things in Las Vegas years ago. There was no crime and they didn't put up with this shit. Now Corporate America runs Vegas and it crime ridden.

Society and it's citizens are surely fed up with this problem, and the people that are put in charge of protecting them. Stop with the money making schemes and the petty politics on the 5th & 11t floor and run your Police Department and the City as you were elected and appointed to do.

Anonymous said...

More time is spent covering up criminal activities that are initiated by the 5th & 11th floor; that's why nothing is getting done.

Anonymous said...

The 5th floor does run the department. It is the lazy complainers who are here who are the problem. They are the thieves who are not doing their jobs.

I live in a neighborhood with lots of tagging and twice this past week 2 armed robberies...but I know all of my neighbors and just let one of those would be criminals come near my house or my kids...the constitution says that I have the right to bear arms and protect my home and family...and I shall if need be. As for my neighbors, they are all honest, hardworking people who have my back as I do theirs if trouble rises. We are just trying to live and let live....but don't mess with us. We're vetrans and proud to support our city and those who serve, unfortunately our mayor isn't one of them.

Anonymous said...

Right on. The Vets aren't afraid like the draft dodging pricks downtown.

Anonymous said...

I agree with and support the police. However, I also agree that there seems to be a lot of waste and have seen it myself. Cops shoping at the mall while on duty, "stacking up like cord wood" at local restaurants. I personally know cops that have no problem admitting this kind of behavior to me. Some accountability must be had.

Most private citizens want to support you but you need to manage yourselves better. 65% of our city's police department should not be inside the office. Set an example of professionalism that we can all be proud of, and you'll get the support you need.

What do you do for a living JJ Lujan? I can tell you that I'm a retired APDer, Cadet Class #50. So, don't begin to lecture me on patrol. Hell, I've done more with a badge & gun than you can imagine. Go spout ur shit to someone who doesn't know any better.
