The Piercing Truth

This is right from the dictionary and seems to describe Albuquerque, Berry and Schultz. Fascism (f ash ,izem) noun An authoritarian right wing system of government and/or social organization. Retraining

KOB TV reported Thursday (read it here) that all APD officers will be retrained following an incident between APD Officer Daniel Guzman and KOB Photographer Rick Foley (read our take here). We think it's kind of funny that APD feels the need to retrain the entire force when only a single officer was involved in the incident.

More importantly, we're wondering who's going to do the training. We'd humbly suggest that APD's highly paid spinmeister have nothing to do with any kind of media training after the most recent fiasco involving Sergeant Paul Heh.

If you'll remember, Sergeant Heh exercised his rights to speech and redress of grievance in front of the city council and was slapped with an Internal Affairs investigation on his way out of the building (read it here). The media fiasco that followed was a classic study in how not to handle the media and included a disastrous appearance by Walsh that bordered on the illiterate (read it here).
(Sidebar)
Our Eyes tell us that the fishing expedition involving Sergeant Heh is still underway. Apparently, the boys on the 5th Floor aren't going to let little things like not having any evidence, any proof, or a case keep them from pursuing their conveniently anonymous allegations against the sergeant. There's got to be some way to punish him or push him out and they're gonna find it even if they have to make it up.
(End Sidebar)
Look... Chief Schultz's move to "retrain" the entire force because of the precipitous actions of a single officer is the type of silly over-kill designed strictly for media consumption and yet another example of the 5th floor's willingness to throw officers under the bus. We're quite sure that most already know how to properly handle an encounter with the media in a similar situation. If not, the incident with KOB is self-explanatory - assume you're always on camera. In this day and age even when a news photographer isn't around you've got a good chance of making the evening news and every one of the other 50 or so daily local newscasts.

How about Schultz taking credit for hiring an officer that should never have been hired! Oh that would mean Schultz taking responsiblity for something he owns, instead he is throwing the entire force under the bus for something they don't own.

Same old Schultz.

Anonymous said...

The next time APD takes responsibiltiy for something will be the first time.

Anonymous said...

So is KOB going to mandate training of all of their personnel...don't think so.

Anonymous said...

That's what happens when you rush to get numbers instead of quality officers. There will be many more incidents like this as the chief pushes to cut the training short and rush unqualified cadets through the academy!

Watch what will happen to APD in a few years will all these rushed through officers.!

Anonymous said...

That's crazy! Why would you retrain an entire force for one screw up. It's Chief Schultz' fault for rushing officers through the APD Academy just so the mayor can say he has the numbers.

I wish they would hire the right people and not just take anyone that comes along.......

justice delayed is justice denied.
voltaire

Two weeks is too long to take for any investigation that is on the up and up.

No matter what the results are, they will be subject to suspicion at this point.

Ray Schultz has screwed the pooch on this one.

Anonymous said...

I hope in that training KOB coughs up the FULL video. I for one would like to see what Paul Harvey would call . . . The REEEEST of the Story.

Anonymous said...

Is Chief Ray going to teach you guys how to cover up Domestic Fights involving the Mayor as well??? Cause that seems to be his area of expertise!

Anonymous said...

Shultz is in denial ..... Thankfully, Guzman is only one of a few bad apples in the force!

Anonymous said...

How long before Schultz starts accepting laterals from Wal-Mart security? Yep, same thing... APS Police is not actually a real police department. Oops!

Remember when it was either military experience or college required to get in?

Anonymous said...

All I know is that if Guzman so much as touches me, I'm suing for excessive force because he's already got a record of it, training or no. That's the problem with keeping people like him on.
And Heh is still under investigation?
How long does it take to investigate whether or not someone made a statement? Either they did or didn't, and you either have someone who has proof or you don't. It's that simple. Dicking around with it this long is just harassment.

ched macquigg said...

No, dicking around this long is just...

a completely transparent effort to avoid accountability for a long as possible. And if you are as powerful as the chief of police, or a school board member/superintendent, or mayor, or city councilor, or above;

it means pretty much forever.

What more proof do you need that you have lost control over power and resources that are fundamentally your own?

If you won't take it back now,
then when?
If not you, then who?

Anonymous said...

That's right! How do you take a lateral from APS Police when they're not considered a real police force?

Please explain that one Chief Ray Schultz! Are you that stupid that you would hire anyone just to try and get to the 1100 officers so you can keep your 140k a year job!

What you should be doing is taking care of your morale , so you don't lose the good experienced officers that you do have!

Stop treating your seasoned officers like shit and they might stay instead of leaving by record numbers.

You're the worse, most hated Chief APD has ever had and you know it!

Fire Chief Ortega does the same thing. Anytime one of his relatives gets in trouble the rest of us have to suffer.

For example we use to be able to wear shorts. Well his clan started wearing the low-ride gansta shorts. Now we can't wear shorts at all.

Just recently Perlman complained that several of our firefighters were in a coffee shop, just purchasing coffee and then leaving, in their bunker gear. They had been running calls all night and day and stopped on the way back from a call to the station. Now we have to wear our badge shirts anytime we try to grab some grub. Sometimes that means going back to the station changing then going back to get food or go to the grocery store. Now that's really saving fuel. Green, Green, Green, Marty!?

Talk about micro-managing. Instead of discipling the few, Ortega punishes all of us. We have the worst morale ever. Almost every day a new memo about something. Like we have to have a doctors note if we call off sick on Father's Day. He just randomly decides what a holiday is. Even if we're actually sick we'd have to go to work and make everyone else sick or spend 4-8 hours at an urgent care or ER to get a doctors note. And have a co-pay!

I wonder what Ortega is doing today? He doesn't even show up to big fires.

Anonymous said...

Just another example of the chief's inability to take the proper action. How much money are they going to waste retraining all the officers, all 900 plus of them?
Well, that won't happen cause we don't have that many. Whats the true number now, with all the new recruits. 500?

Why not send a memo by email and end it. Also, how about training the spokesperson NOT TO SAY "IN MY OPINION----- We're not interested in her opinion. Just the facts would be more than adequate.

The chief is such a farce but, then he works for a bigger one.

Chief schultz and the rest of the boys on the 5th floor suck, no doubt about it. That crew couldn't lead their way out of a wet paper bag, horrible lessons in leadership from the top is a daily occurrence at APD. These fools want to punish the masses for the mistakes of some clown that they hired, get some standards back at APD and quit hiring dirt bags, the chief needs to do the entire city a favor and resign.

Anonymous said...

Some do need retraining. It's scary, and foolish to think everybody is really like Guzman. It is more frightening that Guzman is only following his leader's example .... I hope not!

Anonymous said...

Good and decent police officers need to do the city a favor, and demand a vote of confidence in their chief.

Good and decent police officers need to police their own ranks, starting with their chief.

Good and decent police officers need to stop waiting for someone else to do these things for them.

Anonymous said...

Brillant, simply brillant. The only problem is that you morons don't know what is going on. Change policy (only makes sense), share it with involved parties (management 101) retrain everyone (whether done formally or via memo or internet, ensures that everyone knows what the policy is). Again, Brillant Chief, simply brillant.

Anonymous said...

Maybe the media should get training on how to obey law enforcement

Anonymous said...

To the second post, how could the NEXT time, be the FIRST time? You can't have a next time with out a first time or it would just be the first time.

Anonymous said...

The 5th floor needs ethics and intergrity re-training! When are they going to get it.

The APD morale is the worst its ever been because of this group of chief's!

They always preach DO AS SAY, NOT AS I DO! What a great way to lead and set the example, and they wonder why morale is so bad.

Anonymous said...

Hey why doesn't Schultz write up the new PIO for being in uniform violation when she wears her hair in a pony tail, way down her back, while in uniform? SOP clearly dictates that while in uniform hair will not be below the yoke of the uniform shirt.

Schultz writes everyone up for anything, so to be fair he needs to write up the new PIO.

Anonymous said...

APD will incorporate the training into their yearly MOE schedule---It won't cost a thing and the Chief gets good PR out of it. Now as far as the poor hiring practices----that's a different issue. The 5th floor needs to screen who they hire better. They have let the numbers game negatively impact the entire dept.

Trish stop posting crap about Nadine, already!!

Anonymous said...

When you volunteer to be in the public EYE, you need to make sure you follow all rules.

Anonymous said...

Heck, I just want her to speak proper English and comb her hair. One thing she does portrait, how that department has it's priorities all screwed up!

Anonymous said...

She sure is not rocket science material!

Anonymous said...

There are alot of PIO classes that are free to law enforcement. If Nadine has taken any she must have been sleeping.

On the news the other night she was in a sleevless shirt with a plunging neckline and her unreal cleavage hanging out. Her hair was all puffed out like a 1980's style and obviously over processed. And the way she speaks, she needs to take some notes.

She should at least get the news tapes of herself to critique and get better. Practice, practice, practice. At least Trish use to pull her hair back and up.

I guess APD doesn't care who represents them. They want to retrain the whole department, they should consider their PIO first.

Anonymous said...

send trish and nadine both packing! bring back beth or arbogast!

Anonymous said...

For sure, someone needs to teach her how to speak.

Anonymous said...

We all can agree Nadines looks can be worked on, but geeezus someone teach her some speaking skills!

Walsh at least sounds like the civilian pio he is paid to be. Send Nadine back to that motorcycle squad, her boyfriend misses her. They even did that cute video together.

Anonymous said...

Nadine looks like dried up leather. What did she do to her skin? Very weathered.

Anonymous said...

Why isn't Walsh used more. Hell, he makes the same pay as a Area Commander makes. Why is he even employed as a PIO? He won't get out of bed and report to a call. Have you noticed that all of his camera time is at Police HQ. I guess it pays to be a close friend of Schultz....be employed, get a $75,000.00 a year salary and do nothing. I guess Bowdich needed a younger partner that was a mirror employment image.

Shame on you Schultz and Mayor Chavez. You do a disservice to those you are supposed to serve. The civilian community has taken notice and action is forth coming!!!!

Anonymous said...

Leave Nadine a lone. She's working on her performance. Stop being a bunch of hating a**holes.

Anonymous said...

How about working on her looks! Get rid of the black roots dear! So not you....

Anonymous said...

APD's PIO is NO Action 7 News Melissa Mahan or Marrisa Maez. Those two are knock outs, unlike APD's news gal! Someone please grab a paper bag for her.

Anonymous said...

Theres nothing wrong with Nadine that a little more plastic surgery cant fix. She's obviously had alot but she still needs some more! Be patient all of you haters she's cuming around. Personally I love the bolt ons from a few years back, that started the plastic improvements.

Anonymous said...

See...this is why we can't ever have a female president. Women hate each other. How boring and predictable. Yawn.

Anonymous said...

Tony Herrera was the best PIO the police ever had!

Anonymous said...

Are you serious? Really? Nadine's looks are just fine. I agree with the comments that she should have her hair pulled back for a more professional appearance, but get real. If you all live in ABQ, you know there are a TON of people that look WAY worse than Nadine. All the posts are probably by the same guy who likely got dumped by Nadine at some point or another. It's not necessary to be so hateful towards her.

Anonymous said...

Dang you guys are MEAN... what about all those female cops that have affairs with married APD cops start talking shit about them!! there are worse woman we could be talking about here.. I agree tv does not do her justice and she could use a hair cut and darken her hair...when you get as old as she is, its time to go darker... her hair dresser should be fired!!!

Anonymous said...

So, because we live in ABQ we should not expect a professional(la) apperance???

In my opinion: A PIO should at least wear something that represents their department. At least something that seems like it's cop like and not from the clearance rack at walmart.

Anonymous said...

We all think the tramp stamp of a motorcycle tire on the small of the PIO's back is in very poor taste! Come on, a large tire on a women's back! Not my idea of something sexy. That will look real nice on an old wrinkled lady. The tire will look flat.

Anonymous said...

I don't think that girl has ever dropped anyone, they have all sent her packing. Do you blame them?

Not exactly the kinda girl you would want to bring home to meet the family, much less marry!

Anonymous said...

Come on now, she looks bad! Its not so much her outward look, its whats so ugly on the inside thats reflecting out. She has no morals and continues to mess with married men!!! She looks low life and speaks like she has a 6th grade education, No class "IN MY OPINION".

Anonymous said...

My god Ray, please tell her to wear an appropriate uniform in public appearances.

whos running that place you or her? even in your defense I never see you in the public eye out of uniform.

Anonymous said...

Speaking from experience from somebody who has to work with Nadine all the time, I must say that she has always been helpful and professional with the people who matter.

What a waste of time and effort spent bad mouthing someone else over minor details and bull**** instead of dealing with their own shortcomings.

Anonymous said...

Put the PIO back in the field and require the Deputy Chief's to to respond to the media. They can rotate the responsibility either weekly or monthly. There is a shortage of cops on the street....stop creating bullshit positions to keep sworn officers off the street and inside!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Rene, shut up and go back to work already.

Anonymous said...

Rene, the only people that matter to her are the ones with brass on their collar, and you!

Anonymous said...

Like I said elsewhere, what good does this cutting each other up bullshit do for any of us? You want to tear each other up, go to the "union" website and do it face to face but not out here in public.

Anonymous said...

If you wouldn't say it in person, don't say it online. Delete cyberbullying. Yeah...this is a public service announcement I saw on tv. It's aimed at children. Food for thought.

Anonymous said...

Lynn, stop protecting your best friend. Yup, we all know she is your good friend. That's the only reason why you wrote those posts. You could give a rats ass about anything other than that!

Anonymous said...

this post was about retraining, Hamby needs some retraining Lynn. its not cyberbullying whatever the hell that is.

Anonymous said...

Despite the PSA's above, and I'm in agreement, it's open season on the 5th floor/11th floor...

Anonymous said...

The 5th and 11th floors do not care about us, why should we care about them. Wait until we catch them, and we will sooner or later. They will also retire soon and then they will see what happens. We are looking!

Anonymous said...

"We all know she is your good friend" Please...I've never met the poor woman. I feel sorry for Ms.Hamby. If you think you have something constructive to offer her in terms of "retraining", tell her yourself. Sweetheart, I gotta tell ya, you sound like a woman scorned. You know..as in "Hell hath no fury."

Anonymous said...

Guess what ladies!!! Missouri has made cyberbullying a crime! Could New Mexico be next? Sends chills down your spine, doesn't it?

No, it does not.
