The Piercing Truth

This is right from the dictionary and seems to describe Albuquerque, Berry and Schultz. Fascism (f ash ,izem) noun An authoritarian right wing system of government and/or social organization. (in general use) extreme right wing, authoritarian, chauvinistic and/or intolerant views or practices. Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one group over another, national, ethnic, especially social strata or monetarily; a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach. Torroco

In our second poll of Eye readers, Candidate for 2nd Judicial District Attorney Lisa Torroco once again trounced her opponent, incumbent Kari Brandenburg, by 34 points. In our unscientific poll 31% preferred Kari Brandenburg, 65% Lisa Torroco, and 3% didn't know (view it here). The results mark a slight trend towards Brandenburg as Ms. Torroco received 71% of our readers support the last time around (view it here).

We've had a number of posts asking where law enforcement stand on this race. Our Eyes tell us that the rank and file everyday officer on the street is either voting for Torroco or against Brandenburg - despite the Brandenburg endorsement by their unions.

In the case of the APOA, the endorsement is determined by a board and not the rank and file. In addition the APOA's endorsement came way before anyone knew there was a for real DAs race. The FOP endorsement on the other hand was a recent event involving the membership of the Sheriff's Office. Our Eyes tell us that Brandenburg won by a razor thin 4 votes and that the endorsement meeting was well attended.

The bottom line here is that the incumbent DA is under siege by an under funded opponent and that by itself should give you pause. Brandenburg's performance in office should be judged by how well she has protected the public not by how she has reduced the burden on the judicial system.

To date we have virtually ignored the race for PRC. There are two candiates running for the position - incumbent Jason Marks (D) and challenger Tim Cummins (R). The Eyes have it that County Commisioner Cummins enjoys a slight lead over the incumbent, what say you? Don't forget to vote!

Tim Cummins for PRC Commissioner? Don't they regulate public utilities? Have you read about Tim's water usage at his home? One MILLION gallons per year. Yet he 'claims' that he has water trucked in to fill his swimming pool! Boy he must have one leaky faucet. He would be like the Fox guarding the Hen House.

Why is the APOA endorsing candidates without offering a forum to it's members? I can't recall where it's been an agenda item? Regardless of who I am voting for DA as a paying member this is bullshit and it's getting pretty old. Have any news Ron Olivas???

Majorty of APD is sick of Karis bs and liberal attiude on crime. Time for a change. BCSO, State PD, and APD along with all the other agencies in Bernalillo County should be screaming. Kari needs to go.

I am an APD Detective and am voting for change and accountability.

Torroco for District Attorney

MY 2 cents worth;
Honestly, I have never figured out why the various law enforcement associations ever support a Democrat in this state. I was a Dem. in college and within my first 2 years as an officer I changed to Republican due to the massive liberalisim in every facet of the collective/elective branches of government in this state. The vast, VAST, majority of officers I met over 22 years of service felt exactly the same way, with the only few exceptions being the folks who were appointed to chief/ DCOP or Public saftey directorate type jobs under Dem. governors or Mayors.

And of course a few union leaders who always seem to fall for the line that Dems do more for the wallet of the working stiff. As police officers the primary function is public safety and no Liberal can ever give you that, on the flip side no matter who is in charge your raises will flow from two sources, a sound tax base and a good negotiation.

Re-electing Jason Marks would be a huge mistake! This guy talks about being a consumer watchdog, but was involved with Eric Serna when he was under a corruption investigation. I'd rather support a guy that uses alot of water over a guy that gives his corrupt friends my tax dollars so they can retire.

Jason Marks was not involved with Serna. Point of fact, he not only gave Serna the boot, but also turned over evidence to the AG for investigation.

Jason Marks WAS involved. Point of fact, Jason Marks voted in favor of giving Serna tax payer retirement benefits, while the AG corruption investigation was ongoing. For Marks and his supporters to try and hide his less than stellar record is laughable. He is the ONLY PRC commissioner that has been ex parted THREE TIMES out of votes, because he was caught having illegal conversations with individuals involved in a case. His personal assistant was fired from the NM Treasurers office (under another corrupt politician-Michael Montoya) for downloading porn on government computers, on our dime!

I have worked up at the PRC and believe me, Marks’ activities are shameful-90% of the PRC staff are excited at the possibility of Marks getting the boot.

Wow Cummins used a lot of water, that he paid for, oh the horror, oh the humanity.

What a vapid and silly argument against the guy! That is the equvalent of saying that he doesn;t just have basic cable, he has HBO & Showtime too, so lets not vote for him....

If that is the only argument against the guy he is head and shoulders above nearly even politico in the darn state.

Jason Marks will look out for the consumer. Tim Cummins won't! See this piece in Democracy for NM yesterday: http://www.democracyfornewmexico.com/democracy_for_new_mexico/2008/10/check-out-leagu.html#more

Go read the by-laws…it will answer everything for you there.

Anonymous, you can disagree whether or not Jason Marks handled Eric Serna’s departure to your liking. However, you cannot allege that he was involved with Eric Serna’s activities. Jason Marks forced Serna out of his position as Insurance Superintendent. Serna’s “retirement” resulted in his immediate departure without costly litigation, which would have been likely otherwise.

Jason Marks voted to accept Serna’s retirement, not to award him retirement benefits. The PERA and/or the AG could best determine whether or not he receives retirement benefits, not the PRC.

Jason Marks has never been caught having illegal conversations as you claim. He has voluntarily issued notices of any possible ex-parte communications when appropriate, but not the number of times you claim. Such conversations were likely with staff, not the scenario you’re painting. I’ll fact check and share my identity, because Jason Marks isn’t hiding anything, but people that anonymously post misinformation most probably are.
