The Piercing Truth

This is right from the dictionary and seems to describe Albuquerque, Berry and Schultz. Fascism (f ash ,izem) noun An authoritarian right wing system of government and/or social organization. (in general use) extreme right wing, authoritarian, chauvinistic and/or intolerant views or practices. Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one group over another, national, ethnic, especially social strata or monetarily; a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach. Eye Poll: Scam-eras Don't Work

There are a lot of reasons why Albuquerque's "Photo Enforcement" program shouldn't be in operation, but chief among them is that the city cannot prove that it works. Marty and the boys on the 5th Floor have been trying to support the program for with claims of accident reduction for some time. The truth is that the city has no conclusive evidence that the scam-eras have made us any safer by reducing accidents at photo enforced intersections.
Unfortunately, four-plus years later no credible safety stats have been released; the lone attempt at posting crash data on the Albuquerque Police Department's Web site in 2007 ended with a retraction.
Despite Journal columnist and scam-era shill D'Val Westphal's recent attempt to sell the ill-advised program (ABQ Journal - Subscription), Eye readers just aren't buying that the program works. In fact, 59% of Eye readers that participated in our unscientific poll said there was "no way" that the city's scam-era works. 37% felt that the program absolutely worked, 2% didn't know, 2% didn't care.

Proponents of the scam-eras like to claim that the program changes driver behavior and on this point we agree - drivers either stop short risking rear end collisions or avoid the photo enforced intersections all together. Technically, the program changed driver behavior. However, there's no evidence that this "change" made anyone safer as it either moved the problem or created a new one.

This week we're taking on the Democrat's spending, uh... stimulus package. You might want to remember that every last dime that is spent by government at any level comes from our pockets or the pockets of generations to come.

So does this stimulus package include the purchase of Wii games for libraries? Just who is in charge of this city???

Its funny that the Journal wasn't able to connect the dots between its uncritical publishing of APD's claims regarding the decrease in accidents and the story they published a couple weeks later about how accidents are down all over the country because people are driving less due to gasoline prices.

We hire the handicapped. That's who is in charge of this city!

So much for safety in the school zones. I have been seeing the speed van on I-25 NB right after Gibson. Mind you this during the time 8:45am that school children would be walking to school. The van should have been in a school zone instead of trying to pick off the morning rush hour. I guess there is more money to be had on the freeway.

SO MUCH FOR SCHOOL SAFETY!

This Mayor is only concerned with money and does not care about the students!

When you look at drivers habits in NM. Think about how long it took to see results in the DWI problem. NM drivers are stubborn. It takes strict enforcement and it takes time. At least when I go through an intersection with a camera cars are not running the light 3,4,5,6....... seconds after the light changes. I look at it this way for every citation issued that is one more crash that could of happened. Why is it there is such a lawless attitude among some people? If you dont run the lights or speed, you shouldn't have a problem.

When did the public become the irresonsible ones? The so called "lawless attitude" is the direct result of the lawless practicing executive, & enforcement agencies. People don't want to be policed the way they have been made to be policed! We like the feeling of having reasoning individuals rather than robots keeping us safe (human or not).

Don't speed, don't run red lights and you don't have to pay a fine. Even the handicapped understand the concept.

"We like the feeling of having reasoning individuals rather than robots keeping us safe (human or not)." Right, until YOU become the victim of some maggot then you want us to be Judge Dredd...

So Eye, why didn't you tell us that Marty got a speeding ticket last month!

.... and law enforcement, or robots will catch everyone making a stupid mistake? Some of us take pride that we drive safely. I do feel bad for people who are innocent, and getting hit, but the red light cameras will not stop accidents .... neither will a cop sitting at a traffic light or driving down a street

Oh yeah let's pull down all the cameras and let the judges do the sentencing. You ever watch the evening news and wonder why the same offenders are out committing the same crimes time and time again. I feel safe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am sorry but I feel the photo enforcement is just a money making scam. I recently heard that the hearing officer himself (Mr. Harata) went outside the case presented to him (because the officer testifying for the city could not prove his case) and deferred to a retired APD Lieutenant for assistance. That is so the City could get their money...so much for impartial.

I find some of the comments interesting but why is it wondering minds always use the phrase - I heard.
State the facts. Names, Places, Dates. WE WANT TO KNOW!

you dont get to have names and date because to give that mean that the one person in the room or the conversation is the person writing here... which in turn burns your ass down for no reason since NO ONE WILL DO ANYTHING
