The Piercing Truth

This is right from the dictionary and seems to describe Albuquerque, Berry and Schultz. Fascism (f ash ,izem) noun An authoritarian right wing system of government and/or social organization. (in general use) extreme right wing, authoritarian, chauvinistic and/or intolerant views or practices. Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one group over another, national, ethnic, especially social strata or monetarily; a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach. Councilor Sanchez Makes Right Choices

During Monday night’s City Council meeting, according to the Albuquerque Journal (see here), Councilor Brad Winter proposed to “shift approximately $3 million from the operating budget to capital programs.” This was contrary to a proposal by Councilor Sanchez. The proposal sponsored by Sanchez “would have left the $3 million in the operating budget to fill vacant jobs in understaffed departments and provide small pay raises to employees. Supporters said it would help city workers who endured pay cuts last summer.” Councilor O’Malley stated, "All these departments have been cut to the bone." The Journal stated that “O’Malley and other critics said the city doesn't have enough money to operate the capital projects it builds now, so constructing more projects doesn't make sense.”

"We have so many projects to do and very little money to do them," Winter said. Let’s look at the track record for APS where Brad Winter is the Operations Executive. APS is over $30 million dollars in the red. If Winter wants to run the City the way APS is run; he will need to pull out his pocketbook and write a check. APS appears to be grossly mismanaged and to bring this type of philosophy to the City is wrong and clearly a conflict of interest. Winter was accused of carrying out Berry’s marching orders. Berry wants to put a boardwalk by the Rio Grande. "We have to make sure we invest in our future," Councilor Harris said. "We have to make sure we keep Albuquerque special."

Mayor Berry, Councilor Winter and others need to realize a few simple facts. A “Board Walk” along the Rio Grande is foolish. If people cannot put gas in their cars, buy groceries, or diapers for their children, they will definitely not be able to afford to go to the “Board Walk” to help keep Albuquerque special.

Part of Councilor Ken Sanchez’s’ budget proposal was to eliminate the money that funds the Public Safety Director’s position. The position is currently held by Darren White. White has stained Albuquerque and has created one debacle after another. Barry made a campaign promise to eliminate the position stating that it was un-needed. No one from City hall can tell us exactly what White does other than pull down a huge salary.

If the City would require White to have an x-ray, the results would most likely look like the following:

The Eye is sure that Councilor Winter’s result would be the same.

All Joking aside (that was a joke, right?); our City leaders need to conduct themselves accordingly and do what is “right.” Save the politics for the leaders who have a personal agenda. Do what is right for City employees and for the City of Albuquerque itself

Kudos to Councilors; Sanchez, O’Malley, Garduño, and Benton for doing what is right. Shame on Councilors; Winter, Harris, Lewis, Cook and Jones for playing dirty.

Boy that about sums it up. Is that what I think it is in the X-ray?

Great move Mr. Sanchez. The public wants to know why we have a police chief and public safety director.

To Councilor Sanchez: your soul is one I will never get. But Councilor Winter has just signed the contract by screwing all the City Employees and making sure all of Berry construction buddies are taken care of. And Darren White, many on this blog have been waiting for me to come forward with the information. The kind of information I have takes time to complete. It is nearly completed, a large piece was missing but now has been provided. soon very soon.Councilor Sanchez you have nothing to fear, I search for souls but I admire a true leader.

Councilor Sanchez dont forget about T.J.. He was fired and within two hours Darren White had him rehired in a different created position. No one knows what he does except keep his mouth shut about White in return for a large pay check.

Playing dirty is walking out of a meeting when you can't win the argument, proposing to eliminate the salary of someone the council overwhelmingly confirmed last year, trying to defer a budget that the council debated for two months, and when you sense that you're losing just call the Republicans names throughout the meeting. The Dems were the only ones using partisan lanquage. The Dems have borrowed from the capital program by the millions over the last 7 years. The Republicans simply put the money back. The voters will decide how that money is spent.

I think that X-ray is a violation of Darren's HIPPA rights!

What about TJ. HE WAS FIRED. Campbell signed the termination, he was escorted out and Darren LIED, saying he was never terminated. TJ is now at the emergency center, making 80K for a position he was NOT qualified for. How does that work? plus his take home car.

Reponse May 18 2011 7:54 A.M. You are so right the voters will decide. I am one of the voters and a lifetime Republican. After the corruption I have seen out of this administration over the past year, it has shaken my faith in the Republican Party to my very core. I will vote, and I will vote to end this administration. So whoever buddy you are, keep in mind, many Republicans have been meeting and we are of one voice. Our voice will be heard ,next election.

soooooooooo basically we are all pro democrat, wasn't the democrats the ones that spent us into this mess. And we want to give them back the keys to spend more on government and get the city budget back into the red. That way public employees can take a sweet pay cut again in four years... Sounds like a well thought out plan eye! This mayor has shrunk the cost of government by 100 or so million in two years and made it affordable to run the City again. I realize that for those of you public employees that love living off the government tit want more and more of my tax dollars in your pockets. But close to 70 percent of the voting public in Albuquerque want an affordable government... So just say no to Dems

lets be very clear for those of you who have not noticed the fine print! The pay raises in the Budget are for emplyees making less than 50000 anually...remember that these are many of the same employees who did not recieve a paycut last year..the cops and firemen did....the new budget is giving the same group a one percent raise..and guess who the is excluded from the raise..you guessed it..the cops and the firemen..well done darren and richard..screwed them again cause you can....people get it together start working on getting these tyrants out of here

5/18/11 @ 7:54am: I am assuming your comment is directed at Councilor Sanchez-

Councilor Sanchez did not "walk out," he left to attend a family member's funeral. When party fellows become a rubber stamp for the mayor's budget instead of fulfilling their legislative role, they are rightly criticized. Jobs should take precedence over CIPs; more workers leads to a larger tax base and a healthier budget. Then you contemplate discretionary quality-of-life projects. Regarding the Public Safety Director position, can you offer a good rationale or need for it's existence...other than micromanaging and isolating Chief Schultz from the mayor? If not, you can take that $100,000+ and put it in your CIP budget. It is not about the person occupying the position, it is about the BUDGET. Kudos to Councilor Sanchez for his common-sensed budget priorities.

I admire Ken for standing up to those. SO what if he leaves, he is there EVERY single time. SO why do we need White? Afterall, during his campaigning Berry promised to get rid of it, said it was a waste of money. WHY was it that TJ was FIRED but Darren says he was relocated and never fired. IF an officer lies, its automatic termination, how come he is allowed to?

KEEP IT UP KEN, we appreciate it!

Eye, you're right on the money with this one! I want to add a suggestion for city employees that got screwed Monday night with Winter's floor amendment. Send e-mails (not from your webmail) to Councilor Sanchez thanking him for everything he did. Also thank the rest of the "good guys" on the council. Send a cc of your high praises to "Berry's Brats", this will let them know how much nobody likes them.

Eye you got it half right.

We the tax payers who are working two jobs to pay taxes are opposed to any pay raise for any city employee. We have suffered not only with pay cuts but with job loses as well. I am so tired of hearing of the "poor pitiful me" city employee who hasn't had a pay 20% pay raise in a year. My friends have lost jobs and had pay cuts that have exceeded 15% and they don't cry like the city employees on this blog.

As for the city councilors, what kind of moron plans for bonds that would raise property taxes while property values are in decline!! Barry, Jones, Winter need their heads examined!

Did any of you even watch the meeting or follow the vote? O'Malley walked out before the final budget vote after pouting about those evil Republicans. Garduno resorted to name-calling and was completely clueless. Sanchez kept claiming the Republicans "conspired" with the mayor to screw the people. Winter proposed the substitute at the same time Sanchez did. Sanchez didn't work with the Reps on his budget. What's the problem with a Republican majority on the city council actually agreeing on something and acting on it? Isn't this what Marty did for years with his Dem council puppets? Every city worker is lucky to have a job right now.

I'M A CITY EMPLOYEE AND I AGREE IF THE CITY CANT AFFORD RAISES IT SHOULD BE ACROSS THE BOARD.

A LOT OF US TOOK PAY CUTS I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF SCHULTZ-WHITE-BERRY-TACO BELL MASCOT WHAT WERE THEIR PAY CUTS ANYONE KNOW. IT IS PUBLIC RECORD.

MEDIA SHOULD CHECK IN TO CITYS CELL PHONE BILL. THEY PASS OUT PHONES LIKE XMAS FRUIT CAKE.

11:29 good post, its hard to argue with someone that WAS AT THE MEETING!!! as you can see from everyone that posts in this blog that facts or first person knowledge of subject matter is far from what these people need to comment about the goings on of local government

Fact: A relative of mine is a $35K employee w/The City. She took a pay CUT last year.

Fact: I'm a 73 year old woman living on SS and haven't had a raise in 3 years. I'm trying to hold on to my 1,000 sq. ft home. I was hoping that Berry would eliminate waste beginning with the Public Safety Director's position.

Why aren't the Police Chief and Fire Chief in charge of their own departments?

T J was subbing for Darren White last Saturday on the "Darren White Show" on KKOB 770. What is his position w/the City and what's his pay? What are his duties?
