Alb...Learn to read grandpa, my facts are straight. Albuquerque lobby's the legislature every year to stop paying PERA contributions for retired rehires. PERA's report is clear, so long as 100% of the contribution is paid in, the fund is fine. If you go to PERA's website and read the full report that PERA did they also went on to state the there is no doubt the rehire program harms younger workers. They are harmed in lost promotions and job opportunities. Read the whole thing gramps, you might not like what you see but it is the truth.

The bigger truth is the rehire law is a fraud. It was supposed to assist law enforcement and waste water, yet 95% of all retired rehires statewide are government workers with not relation to law enforcement or waste water. Just look at Albuquerque city hall, how many high ranking members of Marty's administration are retired and then rehired back? All this does is stifle growth for younger workers.

The so called veteran officers never had to wait their turn. In the past there was no rehire program so regular officers were put in that position. Wait your turn? You have got to be kidding me, more like smooze the chief.

You guys need to start being honest with yourself. The truth hurts. I just hope that this legislative session we can get the governor to sign off on the repeal of this poorly written law. I know I will be calling my representatives.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4662430175624645998.post-8168883106924527342007-11-26T20:59:00.000-07:002007-11-26T20:59:00.000-07:00As far as the "Young Officers" wanting to be range...As far as the "Young Officers" wanting to be rangemaster or a Detective, tell them to wait their turn just like the "Veterans" who occupy the jobs now did. Their own audit indicated that the rehire program had no impact and did not threaten the fund....The current credit problem and the declining stock market pose a bigger threat to PERA than a few hundred retirees. Get your facts straight.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4662430175624645998.post-6170013310121578242007-11-25T22:08:00.000-07:002007-11-25T22:08:00.000-07:00For a plan to change the legislature must first ap...For a plan to change the legislature must first approve the change. Then the affiliated members must vote on it. It is not a stroke of the pen. Once vested you are considered to have property rights to your pension and any change must be approved by the owners.

Since when does it cost others!!! Ask the young officers who would like to become a rangemaster. Ask the young detectives who would like to work cold cases, etc etc etc. Ask the officer who can't transfer because the only positions open have been GIVEN to retired officers so they won't quit. It costs because every year Albuquerque is lobbying to not have to pay PERA contributions for retired officers and if that ever succeeds the pensions fund will be in trouble. It costs because PERA is now having to defend itself in court because it is being sued by a bunch of APD retired rehires. No matter who wins, this issue would have never been raised if the rehire law was not enacted and I believe the pension fund should only go to running our pensions, not to paying attorneys.

Is this clear enough?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4662430175624645998.post-34586173250900958892007-11-25T19:56:00.000-07:002007-11-25T19:56:00.000-07:00Just because you are vested in a 20year plan does ...Just because you are vested in a 20year plan does not prevent your service credits from being applied to a different plan. It can be done with a stroke of a pen, yours or the city's. And no, for your information, I am not a rehire or getting ready to retire from APS either. Since when does it cost others if an officer retires and then chooses to go back to work again? Explain to me how that costs you money?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4662430175624645998.post-91540391597282067772007-11-25T15:09:00.000-07:002007-11-25T15:09:00.000-07:00Just who would you have starting at the 25 year PE...Just who would you have starting at the 25 year PERA plan?

Officers who have not retired yet? Can't be done, after 5 years they are vested in the 20 plan.

Officers with less than 5 years and new hires? That wouldn't be fair to them, but it is an alternative. But this plan would not help the hiring crisis for another 15 plus years when those guys hit their 20 and can't retire.

Nope I think you are either a rehire or about to retire and you are wanting to pad your pockets at the expense of younger officers. Instead of trying to sell this as a plan to help the hiring crisis, just be honest and say you want to be greedy at the expense of others.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4662430175624645998.post-86859515720944796692007-11-25T13:09:00.000-07:002007-11-25T13:09:00.000-07:00Does anyone have a good recipe for oatmeal cookies...Does anyone have a good recipe for oatmeal cookies that I can use for the Holidays?
