The Piercing Truth

This is right from the dictionary and seems to describe Albuquerque, Berry and Schultz. Fascism (f ash ,izem) noun An authoritarian right wing system of government and/or social organization. (in general use) extreme right wing, authoritarian, chauvinistic and/or intolerant views or practices. Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one group over another, national, ethnic, especially social strata or monetarily; a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach. Nice Temper Tantrum Chief Schultz!

An interesting story came to us via email. As we started reading about the Appreciation Day that was held at the Valley Area Command Substation on Friday, we thought that for once the Administration of the Albuquerque Police Department would be shining for their outward support of the officers. THINK AGAIN. According to our letter, Chief Schultz was in attendance, standing near the APOA tent. Commander Rae Mason (our new hero) announced that for the first time ever, she was presenting an officer with the Officer of the Year award. According to the letter received, she announced Officer Dawn Roberto was receiving the award. As soon as Commander Mason announced the recipient, Chief Schultz turned and left. Even though he was standing directly behind the officer, he could not show the respect to even congratulate the officer. Lt. Dodi Comacho (our other new hero) quickly interjected. She stated all the good things Officer Roberto has accomplished and even stated no one can figure out why the countless nominations for Officer of the Month have been denied. Our eyes know why the nominations have not been approved. Chief Schultz is throwing another one of his well known temper tantrums. You know, the kind of tantrums he throws when people call him on the carpet, when he is caught off guard and has no time to devise an excuse. You may hate her, you may like her, but the eyes believe no one can doubt the fact that Officer Roberto is a hard working officer that has made this Chief look good. She is also a union member that continuously stands up for Officers and does not back down. We applaud Commander Mason and Lt. Camacho for their recognition. Chief Schultz, your tantrum was not gone unnoticed and you should be ashamed of yourself for the way you handle yourself. It is time for you to leave, bring the morale back to this department and for petes sake, leave the tantrums to the two year olds.

I read the following (a posting on another website) and thought this was interesting:

"I was there Dawne and although "SOME" people walked away and didn't have the common decency to show you respect, I along with our community applaud you for what you have done."

How's it fair that an officer gets recognized for being an "officer of the year" when the year has two month's left in it?

Don't get me wrong, Dawn Roberto is a hard working cop and deserves major kudos but for cryn out loud, do it right if you're gonna recognize her, otherwise it looks fake.

Schultz thought Joey Sigala should have gotten it.

Bwahahahahahahaha!!!!!!

I feel the need to comment on this article and the comments that followed! The Valley Area Command Officer of the year award was given to Dawn BY ME to recognize her continued hard work and dedication to MY Area Command! The Chief was NOT aware that I was giving the award out! My original plan was to give it to her at Graveyard briefing in front of her fellow officers but when I realized she was off on Friday night a quick change of plans was made and it was presented to her at the Officer Appreciation event. The Chief had already left before The
presentation of the award. HE DID NOT STORM OFF IN A TEMPER TANTRUM!!!! I repeat,,,, HE DID NOT EVEN KNOW THE AWARD WAS GIVEN OUT!!! And to the comment about my timing???? Seriously??? You think it was "fake" that she was given an award now and not at the end of the year? Didn't know I needed to work on the same calendar as you! Apparently you think the end of the year is a better time to show my appreciation that AT AN ACTUAL OFFICER APPRECIATION DAY???? I hope this clears up the misinformation!!

FINALLY ! I have lost count of how many times I put Officer Roberto in for Officer Of The Month over the years she worked for me. The result was always the same. NO ! No matter what she did, no matter how many high profile crimes she solved, the answer was always the same. NO ! At times over the years I had information leaked to me by members on slection board that the vote was unanimous and Dawne was Officer Of The Month. When the officer was announced Dawne did not get it. STRANGE ! Dawne has been put in for Officer Of The month by Sergeants, Lieutenants, and Commanders. All results were the same. NO ! I am proud of Commander Rae Mason for the recognition that she gave to Officer Roberto, and for standing up and doing the right thing.Prehaps Commander Mason did not see the chief leave. My phone has been ringing off the hook that agree with THE EYE Story , and how events unfolded. Ufortunatly I was not there. If I had been, and I would of seen events unfold as reported, I would of said something and made sure everyone heard. To Chief Schultz, if everyone saw wrong then prove it. The year is not over. NAME OFFICER DAWNE ROBERTO OFFICER OF THE MONTH .

The Chief is a horses ass. Always has been, always will be. After all that he's done, should we expect anything less from him? I saw Kudos to Cmdr Mason for recognizing what an upstanding officer Dawne is. Keep up the hard work Dawne. Don't worry about how the Chief feels about it, he's time is up soon anyhow.

Dunno what calendar your working off of Rae but there's only one. You might try that for starters.

Rae and Schultz are best buds, how else would you explain her position as a commander...certainly not by merit!!!

For those of you who keep commenting on the calendar and year...each area command has an officer appreciation day...so if an officer is awarded officer of the year at that celebration its because it’s year to year to coincide with the 12 months prior since the last officer appreciate day....some of you comment on the most insignificant things...and by the way....You go girl...Congrats..Dawne...

Shultz is a liar and everyone will see that come December.

At least she's good to some at something in her life.

Jesus fang Christ. Just accept the fact that Mason made it up to give to her. Yes this means the rest of u can go home but it's not like she isn't worth the recognition. Too bad jbedgar Schultz can't be a man and give it to her himself. Biggest bunch of whiny pussies the lot y'all have become.

I don't post to anonymous comments but I will just this one time. Come on guys get off the Rae and Ray are best friends B.S.. Give Commander Mason the credit she is due and standing up and doing the right thing. As far as two months being left in the year, come on really. Ask anyone who has every worked around Officer Dawne Roberto about her quality of work. Dawne made my life easy as a sergeant. Dawne made my squad look good, the lieutenant, commander, deputy chief, and the chief look good by her outstanding attention to duty. I know there are many hard working officers, but let us all say well done to Dawne. THANK YOU DAWNE. THANK YOU RAE.

So everything Rae said paul ruined... as usual. And people are going to see what they WANT to see. If you can't take the word of the person responsible for handing out the award then there is no hope for you!!! GET A LIFE

I was there at the Officer Appreciation Day. I am not a member of APD. I don't care one way or another about the Chief. I do read the eye, so I must comment. The event was awesome and it took a lot of work and effort, much of it off the clock. I think the commander, Lt, and everyone else who worked so hard on this event deserve kudos. The chief had left before the award. Whether he knew in advance, I don't know. And the comment about the merits of the commander infuriate me. I would call you out on that one. Rae has done a tremendous job for APD and the community. I challenge anyone to prove differently. Any alluding to her rise up through the ranks as anything other than merit is absurd. Sour grapes? Good job Rae and Dodi and others and especially Dawne for years of commendable service.

Officer Roberto is one of the hardest working Officers I know. Glad one of the good people on the Department finally get recognized, not a female 34 who has horrible Officer safety and talks a 43-1 suspect down who is armed with a gun.

Officer Roberto is dedicated and an outspoken union member who fights for Officers. Thank you Officer Roberto.

My questions about all this are....
Why would the chief of police of a police department be so upset about an officer getting an award?!?!?!
What is all that about?
Is the APD that vindictive and hateful? Why does everyone hate eachother, and stab eachother's backs?
What kind of agency is this?
Why are the officers of this agency dragged through the mud, and thrown under the bus for political sake as it seems.

Why does the largest police department in the state of New Mexico retaliate against it's officers with illegal labor tactics, like denying advancement opportunities to those who are associated with those not in favor of the in crowd?

Why is the union not more vocal about the wrong going on?
As a matter of fact, why are they involved in the wrong going on?

Seeing all of this is unbelievable.
It is unbelievable that in this time, and age it seems people are regressing. Pathetic really.

Police are held to a higher level. That means command staff should be held even higher.

It seems that egos, and hatred have taken over and there is no time for anything else. I hear, time and time again how a supervisor refuses to be wrong. WELL....sometimes you are wrong.
What makes you a better leader is having the confidence to admit your mistake, learn from it, and move on. It seems like that is the sticking point here. This place is stuck in a high school mentality time wharp. It's really a shame.
This is what law enforcement has come to here?!?!
It's utterly embarrassing.

I truly feel bad for the rank and file officers out there every day trying to get the job done.

Shultz should have been fired long ago. He is a disgrace. He is the leader of the "Blue code gang"

If temper tantrums is all you got to report, you might as well fold your tent and go home. It sure does look like Schultz has survived virtually all controversy, including Darren and the police shootings, and will be around at least until the end of Berry's term, with Berry having a good shot at re-election. Too bad, so sad. What's Darren doing at the Racino while Berry's own people are pushing giving another 25 year lease to the Downs??? Also, what is Rob Perry's role in approving all those settlements to plaintiff lawyers?? As long as Berry is around so will be Schultz. But you report temper tantrums. You need better sources.

Isnt the camacho case brad told the city council about? The one where he called Shultz a liar to his face?

Do they include moral issues with the selection for officer of the month?

Just curious because I believe that Lt. McDonald put Roberto in for numerous awards in years past and those failed to result in a nomination also.

I am not particularly familiar with this (43-1) suicidal subject that was talked down, but why is that such a crime? Is it wrong to talk down someone who is at the end of their rope in life, and may not have a person, or place to turn to or know how to deal with it? To me, a suicidal person, or mental patient is not always a criminal. Can they be dangerous? Hell yes. But they are not always a criminal, and being in their situation is not always a criminal act. I would not feel heroic about having to take the life of one of these persons. I was always taught that taking a human life with deadly force is a last resort action, when all other means of solving the situation have failed. I am not saying that deadly force can not be the immediate action called on to defend yourself when a situation escalates so fast that it is your only option. That would be totally justisfied, had you had to defend your life, or the life of someone else in a split second. BUT, if a situation arises where another course of action can be taken, a life does not need to be taken and you choose to use deadly force then YOU would be wrong.

I have watched an evolution of change within the APD that has happened recently. It has not happened for a good reason either.
A while back, you would have been critiqued, ridiculed, and ostracized by your peers for responding to a call, where a subject was armed with a deadly weapon, and you responded to a deadly force presentation with anything less than deadly force. You would not get a commendatory letter for your actions. NOW, that is not the case. Now officers are reacting to deadly force encounters with less lethal. I am not saying that this is bad. I am saying what the reasons for it are. Everything going on today here is politically motivated. It seems that none of the change is safety related, but politically and liability motivated. It's not about right or wrong. It's about what something looks like and how someone can use it to benefit their political career. Do you see where I am going with this?

You are blind if you can't see the trend here. This mentality of flip flopping on tactics and policy is going to get offficers hurt out there on the street when they fail to react appropriately out of fear of getting in trouble. All of this is happening to fit the needs of one person. Statistics, and facts do not lie. Neither does evidence, prior instances where patterns of proceedure and policy were set forth. There is precedence within the Albuquerque Police Department that shows outstanding contradicting bias in the way situations are handled, and ruled on. It is clear as day. Yet the same administrators continue to make the same mistakes over and over again, never learning. The sad fact about this is that officers actions out there on the street will be judged by political agenda, costing the city more millions in settlements for unfair labor practices, harassment, hostile work enviornment, malicious prosecution, and abuse of power. Maybe I was raised wrong, but when have the needs of ONE started top outweigh the needs of many. Politics.

Why is someone who is known to yell, curse and throw things allowed to run a Police Department. I can see getting a little frustrated now and then, BUT to throw chairs around the office and yell profanity laced sediments about internet web sites and social media pages is a little off don't you think? How can a person like this be charged with making rational decisions for a police department? People here have also said that this person has been found guilty of civil rights violations, participates in retaliation against employees, shows measurable disparity in the treatment and discipline of officers, and lies in depositions and in court. Why is this overlooked and who is letting this conduct flourish? This is dangerous, and there are federal laws prohibiting this type of behavior. An organized effort needs to me mobilized, with material witnesses, and facts to back these alegations documented.
It all needs to be brought to an outlet where they will have to listen and action will have to be taken. This is neurotic behavior.

So once again i vote no confidence on mayor and chief... Lets see what happens. Oh wait nothing because they can do whatever. Its starting to feel like we are in mexico and new one is not much better;)

In reference to Rae Mason's little rant....you gave an officer an award that recognized them for such achievement yet not only did Schultz not stick around to say "good job" but you didn't even bother to tell him about it? How 'bout seriously to yourself!?!

I know I'm late to the party but get a grip, any way you look at it is bad. He' either knew and left because he's a dick OR your inept and didn't inform him to stick around to give the cop the praise they deserve.

You must give Mason props she went against the grain and gave the aware that Schultz never would. It took her years to step across the line but she did.
