The Piercing Truth

This is right from the dictionary and seems to describe Albuquerque, Berry and Schultz. Fascism (f ash ,izem) noun An authoritarian right wing system of government and/or social organization. (in general use) extreme right wing, authoritarian, chauvinistic and/or intolerant views or practices. Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one group over another, national, ethnic, especially social strata or monetarily; a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach. Two Down

This morning the Journal reported that Councilor Debbie O'Malley withdrew from the race for mayor because she would be unable to collect the necessary $5 contributions. This afternoon we're getting word that yet another Democrat is done... Councilor Michael Cadigan.
Like my good friend Councilor Debbie O'Malley, I have concluded that it will not be mathematically possible to meet the 3200 five dollar contribution threshold by the end of this month. Therefore, I am withdrawing from the race for the Mayor of Albuquerque.
- Cadigan Email to Supporters
Open and Ethical... two words that have nothing to do with the new publicly financed election scheme. Four years ago we were told that the scheme would take money out of politics - both candidates have dropped out because of money. We were told that scheme would be ethical - what's ethical about using city employees as a campaign force? We were told that the scheme would be open - the system has already limited our choices long before we ever got to make our selections.

We were wrong. We thought that at least one of the two councilors would be able to gather the necessary signatures and $5 donations. Now both are out of the race due to a campaign system that they both supported.

Appropriate irony for O'Malley and Cadigan's idiotic support of taxpayer-funded political campaigns. If there was any common sense on the City Council they would just get rid of taxpayer-funded political campaigns.

It's pathetic. What's really wrong is the fact that this so favors the incumbent. In this case it's the Mayor. No one is going to be successful with this except the sitting mayor who through intimidation and reprisals has 8,000 city employess at his disposal to collect his signatures and $5 contributions. What does it say when every employeee is fast with their $5 or else risk being fired.
This system might as well be fixed.
Oh, I'm sorry it is.

Now that Whitney Cheshire is headed for the exits, will treated to daily Brad Blog posts?

I wonder why this blog did not post the latest news about scameras. I was in Santa Fe and I saw Winter’s assistant lobbying for a bill that would give new life to the cameras in Albuquerque, Las Cruses, and Santa Fe. The assistants state senator is carrying the bill. SB 519 link it is titled the NUISANCE ORDINANCE VIOLATIONS & FEES, THIS IS THE LINK http://www.nmlegis.gov/lcs/_session.aspx?chamber=S&legtype=B&legno=%20519&year=09

As a city employee, trust me, it will be a cold day in hell with icicles, polar bears, glaciers, and icebergs before I'd give the little garden gnome a freakin' dime. Much less 5 bucks. NFW!

Well, now we wait till the voters speak. He with the most votes wins. That's are system.
To late to start crying now.

Here we have the classic case of cold feet before a wedding. The get out quick, cancel the wedding the day before or just before the wedding; leaving the alter. The Candidates looked at the situation as grim. Escaping a financial torment.

Did Marty actually strong-arm city workers into donating $5.00 of their hard earned money???
Un-frikin'-believable!! Getting to sound more and more like Chicago politics--This guy can't be any more unethical if he tried...I'm amazed that he's still standing!!!--(altho it looks as if he's sitting down).
(Sorry, humor wasn't my major)

Altho I'm not a democrat and I felt that some of Cadigan's beliefs were too encroaching on our personal rights, you got to give him credit for fighting the good fight against Marty's Machine. He demanded accountability from city departments and requests for funding, he is a good steward of taxpayer dollars. Unlike most of the city council, he questioned and grilled the likes of Mr. Adams when it came to spending our money!
It's too bad he's out of the race.
