About Today...

Do you know what today is? The first day all state legislators get together to find a way to cover a five hundred million dollar budget shortfall. Let’s be honest we don’t need the newspapers or the television to tell us how bad things are for a lot of people, we can see with our own eyes and by talking with our family and friends that things are real bad.

At home when the money is not coming in what do most people do? Cut out the items we could do without. What do our elected officials do in Santa Fe? They do the opposite and raise taxes on everything they can think of.

Elected officials, always say the same things when I point this out to them.
  1. No one ever contacts me and tells me not to raise taxes.
  2. What is a few more cents on the dollar?
  3. We can’t cut anything because I want to get re-elected.
Do any of those reasons make sense to you or would you run your household like this?

The major problem the Republican Party has in Santa Fe is they all do their own thing. If ONE Republican votes for ANY tax or fee increase Democrats put out a press release claiming that their effort to raise taxes was bi-partisan.

We cannot allow this to happen again. Republican legislators need to stick together and pledge not to make our lives more expensive at a time when our incomes are already threatened. Contact your elected officials and tell them if they vote for any TAX or FEE increase we will find their replacement this year. Things will never change if you don’t or won’t make a stand for what you believe.

Terri Cole, head of the ABQ Chamber of Commerce was pushing for the return of the tax on FOOD. She said that the 'tax on food would HELP the hungry.' Is she for real?

Terri Cole is not a business owner. I have talked with her many times and found that is completely out of touch with reality!

New Mexico Legislators Without Email ( originally posted on Duke City Fix by Not A PC Kinda Guy http://www.dukecityfix.com/forum/topics/new-mexico-legislators-without )

Hoping something had changed and every legislator, especially those who are some type of "Chair / Vice Chair" on committees, could be contacted by email; my hopes are dashed after downloading the latest lists from the NM Legislature site. Bills have been assigned to committees so it is time to pipe up if you have an opinion.

I have to wonder what club each of these legislators belongs to that they do not want their email published ... at least their firstname.lastname@nmlegis.gov email. Here are some possibilities.

1. The don't confuse me with the facts I have already made up my mind club?
2. The I don't have an internet connection at the Roundhouse club?
3. The I don't own a computer or have access to one or know how to use one club?
4. The I don't care what citizens and citizen voters think club?
5. My reading glasses are broken club?
6. I can't be bothered to read anything during the legislative session, especially anything to do with bills club?
7. I'm afraid someone might say something negative in a email and my ego and feelings will be hurt club?
8. I'm the Chairman of a committee so I don't need any feedback about my behavior club.
9. No one told me I had an @nmlegis.gov email account club.

Here is a link list of those legislator's web pages at the legislature. Give them a call at home after a session and ask them why. Yeah, actually some of them list their home number but not their emails.
