Thanks to the efforts of people OTHER than Albuquerque mayor RJ Berry, APD "chief" Gordon Eden, and BCSO Sheriff Dan Houston, it seems there will indeed be a memorial. Of sorts.
As you see, APD schultzed, ooops we mean "tweeted" a press release about the upcoming ceremony. But this event our Eyes tell us is basically a closed, non-public, event being held APD's police academy. There will be little fanfare and little public recognition of those fallen officers and deputies who gave the ultimate sacrifice. And little solace for the families who lost their loved ones.
It's moments like this that remind us some of the outrageous statements RJ Berry said during last Fall's mayoral campaign. You remember right? How he "loves" our police officers. How he thinks "the world of them." And how he couldn't be "more proud" of them. One has to wonder how much Berry would use this occasion if this event were being held last September. Would they really have "forgotten" it.
There's an expression we see on stickers paying tribute to fallen officers that we've seen on cars and trucks around town. The sticker says, "Never Forgotten."
We at the Eye, say "make them remember."
