The Piercing Truth

This is right from the dictionary and seems to describe Albuquerque, Berry and Schultz. Fascism (f ash ,izem) noun An authoritarian right wing system of government and/or social organization. (in general use) extreme right wing, authoritarian, chauvinistic and/or intolerant views or practices. Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one group over another, national, ethnic, especially social strata or monetarily; a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach. A New Revoltion? Maybe Not

On Saturday Bernalillo County Republican's held their largest convention in quite some time. The party faithful were joined by a large group of energized newcomers.

Our Eyes tell us that the crowd was excited but orderly even though organizers had to overcome significant obstacles created by the huge crowd including long registration lines, preregistration snafus, and even a visit from the fire marshal.

So will the excitement extend through an election and create revolution in government? If history is any indicator, probably not.

We may be getting a bit ahead of ourselves here as November is a lifetime away in politics, but if Republicans succeed in their quest to oust the Hopeless Change crowd they'll be faced with the painful reality of governing.
While voters are angry with the many excesses of Mr. Obama and the Democrat majorities in Congress, it would be a grave mistake to view Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts as an endorsement of the big government, high spending Republican political class who led the party to resounding defeat in 2006 and 2008. Voters remember what these geniuses did, and have not forgotten it.
After a victory, the clarity of a campaign is transformed into the murky business of running a government. Republicans have a recent history of abandoning principles of limited government, liberty, and low taxes in favor of political expedience.

Should Republicans nationally or here in New Mexico regain power, they need to remember the lessons of the past two election cycles. The public responds to clarity and simplicity. The clear principles of a campaign must be implemented when governing. Otherwise, Republicans become pale reflections of their Democratic rivals. If 2008 showed us anything it's that Americans will vote for the genuine article - even if it is a genuine socialist - over its knock-off approximation.

I hope there is true seriousness in their actions but I don't buy it. Most of the clamor has been over the deficit and adding to the National Debt which has been spiriling upward for years. I am a fiscal conservative so balancing the budget is important to me yet when Bush took office he cut taxes resulting in budget deficits over the next eight years that doubled the National Debt from $5.7 trillion to $10.7 trillion. It may surprise conservatives but the web make doing research easy that Reagan also doubled the National Debt. The debt was $930 billion when he took office and $2.7 trillion when he left. The Republican party has been saying one thing but doing another. Good ole Clinton was the only president to finally balance an annual budget which he did during his last few years in office. Conservatives like to point out it was due to spending constraints. Sorry but the facts don't support that - it was due to the 1993 tax increase and the surging tech boom. I want a government that can pay its bills and not pass them on to our children. When it comes to voting I typically vote Republican (especially at the local level) but I doubt the clamor is ringing true with most - which is where its needed.

The Albuquerque Gross Receipts Tax for businesses was recently lowered from 8.75% in October 2009 down to a 8.625% in January through June 2010. That amount was changed how? Does anybody know? Is that the reason behind the City's recent deficit? Nobody likes Gross Receipts to be raised, especially businesses, but the City needs money from somewhere. Garduno's Restaurant was recently in the news not long ago about failure to meet Gross Receipts, when did the decision to lower the Gross Receipts for Albuqueruqe take place? Did City Council vote for the change? Lowering the Gross Receipts saves businesses money, but lowering the Gross Receipts also reduces the amount of revenue coming into the City of Albuquerque. How did Chavez arrange to have the City he said could have enough revenue if he were reelected, change the amount of revenue when Berry took over in January? Is there some sort of way to find out why there is apparently a huge deficit that the City will have to close their books by?

If the City changes back the Gross Receipts in June 2010 back to 8.75%, then would that create enough revenue to close the books by July? How much expected revenue was lost when Albuquerque lowered the Gross receipts for a period between Jan. 2010 and June 2010?
I'm just guessing but doens't that sound like maybe the amount needed to get Albuquerque back financially?

Glen Beck hit the nail on the head when he gave his speech to CPAC. The problem is with the PROGRESSIVES and they are in the Democratic and Republican party. The Republican Party needs to stand up and take responsibility and ask the American people for their forgiveness. The Republican Party needs to stand up and not give us lip service anymore. We the people need to hold them accountable. Let the Republican Party stand for Honesty and Integrity. That’s something we have not seen in a very long time. Lower taxes and smaller government...

Come July the city is looking at some drastic measures to dig itself out of a 52 mill. hole that I believe Marty Chavez dug us into. I'm sure we can say goodbye to our raises, and my understanding is that some of our unions are going away, along with our benefits. Look out J & C series, your collective necks are on the chopping block (unless you can get your paying members up to the 50% mark).

How 'bout the fact that in the spirit of cost saving, Berry/Campbell hired John Martinez as an independent contractor for 50% more than Lawrence Torres was getting paid yet for the same position????

I found out why there is now a City deficit. The quarter cent tax sunset without a vote to extend led to the decrease of City money of 1/8 taken from the Albuquerque gross receipts. The City of Albquerque gets a portion of the 8.75% and the New Mexico State gets their portion. The quarter cent tax was extended and that change will take place in July 2010 when Business Owners can expect to resume paying the 8.75% and an additional tax passed by the Mid Regional Council of Governments. Enjoy the small gross receipts tax break for the next 5 months.

Marty Chavez did a horrific job in promoting the City of Albuquerque and that resulted in a sharp economic downturn that created lots of signs "for lease," "for sale," in the downtown area especially.

An easier solution would have been to have improved the aesthetics downtown by putting in New Mexican color tile with signs that tell tourists what color tile to follow and what attraction that would take the tourist to. Beautifying the entire area of the downtown by putting in well designed tile downtown would have improved the area and people would have enjoyed walking around. Too much money was spent on just one project or proposed being spent on just one project.

I'm in favor of a downtown arena only if the arena is in conjuction with another facility such as, Educational facility that would help offset and pay for the cost. A less expensive downtown arena, too would be great.

Well, well, well.....
So it's finally out. Darren & Saures little trip to Vegas to celebrate after the Berry appointment.
Too bad things got out of hand.
Maybe should look into why there's no report on thew 15. After all the police did show up.

The Republicans sure bought into the 'change' with this 500 pound bag of dung they dropped on the steps of City Hall.
Nothing at all to be proud of for sure.
Then came the appointments of two people ( Darren & David Campbell)
who in their own right have been basic failures, but some how the citizens & Berry bought into the idea that they actually know what they're doing.
Campbell; who left Obama at the alter to take refuge under the Republican Berry bandwagon so he wouldn't have to serve Obama for $45k a year in some Euro cesspool. Good move David.
Then there's Darren, the opportunist who left Marty's side when the polls shifted in Berry's favor. Theres loyalty for ya.
Now... the part about GOVERNANCE.

Which part of this Trojan Horse threesome do the voters of Albuquerque think is going to lead us out of this mess and run the city?
If you're counting on these 'Three stooges', guess again.
Can anyone say INCOMPETENT, OVER THEIR HEADS. They will soon find out they have bitten off more than they can chew.
