The Piercing Truth

This is right from the dictionary and seems to describe Albuquerque, Berry and Schultz. Fascism (f ash ,izem) noun An authoritarian right wing system of government and/or social organization. (in general use) extreme right wing, authoritarian, chauvinistic and/or intolerant views or practices. Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one group over another, national, ethnic, especially social strata or monetarily; a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach. Political Theater

Councilors Ken Sanchez and Rey Garduno are looking for their time in the political spotlight. The two have alerted the media that they plan to try and add Mayor Berry's new APD illegal immigration policy to tonight's council agenda. Their objective is to prevent the mayor from checking whether or not a criminal has already committed a crime by entering the country illegally.

In addition, the two intrepid councilors are proposing that the city join the few states, schools, and cities that are "boycotting" Arizona. Siding with Sanchez and Garduno is none other than Isaac Benton.

This isn't Benton's first foray into international affairs. Back in January of 2009, Benton characterized the Israeli conflict with Palestine as "genocide" (ABQ Journal - Subscription).

Look... Mayor Berry's new SOP, is no different than checking those who are arrested for wants and warrants. We'd argue that the policy doesn't quite go far enough, but the truth is Berry's policy could have prevented the rape of a six year old girl earlier this month.
Juan Gonzalez told police he has "problems touching little children" after he was arrested earlier this week on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl at an Albuquerque gym, officials said.

Gonzalez, a 20-year-old Mexican national, was being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center late Thursday on a $200,000 cash-only bond, jail records show. He is charged with criminal sexual penetration, kidnapping and evidence tampering.
Not all immigrants are criminals - not even illegal immigrants (except for that whole illegally being in the country thing). But what Sanchez, Garduno, and Benton are proposing is that police officers intentionally ignore the crime of entering the country illegally when performing a legal investigation.

This looks to us like a case of political "me toos" designed to garner support from a far left constituency. It certainly makes for good political theater, but in reality a majority the public wants a secure border and Mayor Berry's new policy is a step toward that goal.

All three of these idiots need to play a game of Russian roulette with a semi automatic pistol with a full magazine. If this is what Albuquerque brings to the table in regards to legislative minds then we are much further behind the power curve than all other states in the nation.

While I don't agree with Ken Sanchez, et al., I think it's a good idea that the council is not just rubber stamping Berry's proposals. Whether you agree with Berry or not, it's always good to have a systems of checks and balances, which is the point of having our city council, so that a mayor cannot just "rule from the throne" as has been attempted in the past. There is nothing wrong with having healthy debates or even arguments so long as everyone's viewpoint is put forth.

They should be much more concerned about the lack of money (budget) then this issue. I am Hispanic and am more concerned with the huge salaries that Berry has created for a select few!!!!!

Had Juan Gonzales been arrested before? Berry's propasal doesn't apply to minors does it? I think that they are more appropriate examples to use than Juan Gonzales...or maybe this too is political theatre.

What a joke - APD can't even screen their own policemen. Didn't you have a cop that was arrested multiple times and finally raped a prisoner. Maybe the city should first look at who they have patrolling the streets. Now I realize there are good cops, but there are a bunch of bad ones too ie (Ray Schultz, Darren White, etc). In addition, you have a cop that is a person of interest in the death of his wife and APD cops went to Los Lunas/crime scene to, in my opinion, destroy evidence. Isn't he still on the payroll? Let's not pretend all the crime is done by illegals.

I agree Berry has created BIG salaries for The SELECT FEW! What about the little people who spent 20 or more years so far with the city and dont make much more than fifteen or sixteen dollars an hour but he wants across the board three percent!

No it does NOT apply to minors, so stop grandstanding. Moot point.

Eye, the example of Juan Gonzales should not be used, as these 2 posters said. He is a minor, so how is Berry going to address that issue? Will he go after minors now? Does he even know? or is he too busy creating duplicative, unnecessary positions and giving his cronies raises? Berry: back off the lowest paid in the city and look in your own backyard if you want to balance the deficit. How dare you take from us who only make $13 Hr????

You are a bully...

Berry,White,Campbell & their buddies got theirs, now the rest of you can go screw yourselves.

5% cut for these jokers ain't shit compared to a 3% cut for city workers.
The unions should demand that all of the appointed people making these outlandish salaries $80 to $160K, should damn well take a 10% cut.
For someone making $30K, at a 3% cut, loses about a grand.
Darren take a bigger cut or resign your position, one that you shouldn't have anyway as it was on the chopping block.
Berry find another payback job for him.

Darren doesn't want anything said about him. Ahh...
No friends left? Big man on campus is becoming the butt of a lot of jokes.
