We've been resisting the urge to comment on today's story about developer Jason Daskalos. It's simply amazing to us how someone who can be so successful on one level can't seem to figure things out on another. By this evening, our resistance failed and we just can't help ourselves.
Jason Daskalos made the front page of the Albuquerque Journal today... again (Subscription). A prominent man with at least 37 speeding citations, a recent DWI charge (and acquittal), and a pending domestic violence charge (read it here), should probably consider laying low for a while, but instead he took a rental car for a lap and managed to get himself back in the papers for driving 83 in a 40 MPH zone.
He's probably the only person we know that has his misdemeanor traffic citations making the front page of the state's largest newspaper. It's tempting to question the news judgment of the Journal - which might be warranted - but his continued disregard for the law simply amazes us in light of his prominence and the fact that he's obviously under public scrutiny.
There's really only one way to characterize Daskalos' continued misbehavior... stoooooopid. Someone needs to convince him to hire a driver, or a keeper even to keep him out of the papers before he jeopardizes one of his many developments by having to cash-in just one too many of his political chips.

Going more that twice the posted speed limit goes beyond simple speeding; it is a wanton and reckless disregard for the safety of others.
He needs to develop the inside of a jail cell for awhile.
The guy has got to be out of political favors by now.
83 in a 40 is reckless driving, not just a speeding ticket, on points his license has got to be close to suspension now.
Its good to be Jason,,,unless Kirby needs a favor. Why havent the powerful greeks got Kirby hired back at APD?
spoiled prick
Jason Daskalos knows that his lawyer will just say that APD is targeting him. The lawyer will then put the poor cop on trial and make HIM look like the criminal! If I was a police officer, I would certainly think twice before pulling that piece of work over. I wouldn't want to lose my job over Albuquerque's answer to Britney Spears. Hopefully he'll wrap himself around a pole somewhere and be done with it.
Why a rent a car? Was he hoping he wouldn't get caught with a rental plate??
Also what about all of his sports cars. Doesn't he have at least 2 Vipers.
He thinks he's a race car driver?? If he's so good why isn't he racing the circuit. Isn't he a bit old to be acting like a 16 year old that just got a drivers license? He and his geek family have enough money to build him a track. They could do so on Paseo Del Norte and have direct access to Paseo. Not like the other shopping centers that must not have padded enough pockets.
What an arrogant prick and he'll get off again. Or another cop will be the scape goat.
What's it going to take. For him to kill someone or a family member of a connected one? The rest of us are just regular Joe's. If he injured or killed one of us, he'd get off!! And it's just a matter of time.
Wht should he change his behavior? He hasn't had to suffer any consequences so far.
You guy's take sooooo long to decide whether or not a comment is appropriate! HURRY UP! HURRY UP! HURRY UP!!
"The guy has got to be out of political favors by now."
why? is he out of money?
Previous commentor Michelle hit the nail on the head. Daskalos continues to flout the rules because his parents obviously didn't enforce any when he was growing up and no government entity has enforced them during his adult life. Add to that the fact that he has the money for the most wily attorneys to plead his cases and he'll likely walk away with another slap on the wrist. Sadly his own demise or the death of an innocent motorist may be the only possible end to the Daskalos Debacle. Let's hope it's the former and not the latter.
Sorry about the delay in approving comments. We do the best we can and sometimes it takes a little longer than others. We really do appreciate your comments and that you take the time to make them.
If he kills someone, he'll get off.
If he kills himself; We get OFF.
"We'll get OFF"
Every APD officer will get their rocks off.
The ABQ Journal, owned by the Lang family (you know, Chief Judge William Lang???) is a joke. You can tell who the most corrupt persons in the city are by the number of ridiculous articles about the person the Journal wastes space on. My favorite: All the great things cocaine-sniffing-hiding Judge Brennan has done for society. Like snorting with his judicial buddies! That's great for society all right. I refuse to devote one red cent to the Land of Enchantment "Pravda" -the Journal is propaganda bullsh*t.
HE ACTUALLY OWNS THREE VIPERS ONE ACR, HIS RACE VIPER, AND A TWIN TURBO 1150 HORSEPOWER CONVERTABLE.
What do you expect, Jason is a friend of Mayor Chavez. He gave the Mayor alot of money for all his political races.
However, his connections to Nick Bakas have helped him avoid Law Enforcement problems and jail time , as Bakas was head of the Public Safety program, where he controlled the cops.
Everyone connected to Mayor Chavez gets away with illegal activity!
"Jason Daskalos knows that his lawyer will just say that APD is targeting him. The lawyer will then put the poor cop on trial and make HIM look like the criminal!"
Boy that statement unfortunately is true!! Gorence will get that poor cop up there and make him look like Charlie Manson...Why else would that hairy-knuckle dragger greek a'hole sign off on paying the fine, choosing instead to go to court? 'Cuz he knows he can buy off another Judge, jury, cop whatever to get the outcome he wants.
Dirt like him, we can only hope he offs himself in one of his Vipers which Zangara probably gave him. He needs his sorry, punk ass kicked.
The Lang family that owns the Journal is not related to Chief Judge Lang.
You're right, the only problem is he'll probably kill a couple of innocent kids while racing around town.
I doubt he or his geek friends will have any sympathy. As long as their favorite boy gets off.
Maybe while he's racing around he should take some of his many nephews in the car with him. Would his geek community be so supportive when their kids are in his car (vehicle, race care, whatever) and are possibly mamed or killed?? He probably could drive a Model "A" above the speed limit and kill someone. Apparently that doesn't even cross his mind.
