APD Contract Rally

Off Duty Officers to Rally in Front of City Hall

The recent brouhaha has APD in an uproar. Monday night at 5:30, off duty officers will be exercising their rights to free speech and assembly by rallying in front of city hall. Our Eyes tell us that the idea is to ask the City Council to reject Marty's proposal that divides the department and is detrimental to any officer that stays with the department. As we understand it, since the contract is a multi-year deal it requires council approval.

Our Eyes tell us that sergeant Paul Heh is organizing the event as part of his quest to have the contract reviewed by the entire membership. If you're an officer that would like to be part of the event show up at 5:30pm at city hall and let the council know how you feel.

So, do you not want the new officers to recieve any raise at all? I'm just curious. You seem so negative regarding any officer who hasn't been with the dept. for very long. Maybe when all is said and done, people who are interested in a career in law enforcement will go straight to BCSO and just avoid this mess. Maybe that's what you want? Wierd.

Hooray for Paul! Can the public join in? I'd like to be there to show my support as a citizen, and I have friends that would like to join in, too. We want what's fair for all of you, and we have a stake in APD officers being treated right.

Someone bring a high chair & bib for Paul...

You can't have a contract that robs Peter to pay Paul.

Stand together!

Anonymous said...

The effort will be a miserable failure,,,there will be crickets rallying in the streets thats about it.

Good luck with this non sense.

Anonymous said...

Having a contract voted within 24 hours when you have officers scattered all over the city was a means to influence the election, don't you understand that idiot!!!!

Plus not providing copies of the new changes during the vote was another huge violation!

Only a fool would stand idle and allow this corrupt process to keep going. Enough is enough, something needs to be done. People need to resign or indicted.

Also to Paul Heh, why do you need for people to give a written statement of known corruption when you have a verbal disclosure from our own President that in fact improprieties were discovered from the last Presuident. There is enough reasonable suspicion to start an investigation. Just get Ron O under oath and have him testify to what he knows, if he wants to save his career, he will tell the truth.

The "EYE" continues its divisive blogs! Besides, I seriouly doubt the council is going to heed a few malcontents..
This raise is best for the department and for the entire city.

At 5:30 the council meeting will be underway and any rally will fall upon deaf ears cause they will all be preoccupied with other serious city business, not the silliness going on outside.

Good luck Paul and the six or seven guys in his squad that will show up to kiss his ass.

As a citizen I see it this way. We need senior officers. They have the experience and background to carry the department. Junior officers should be eager to laern from them so that some day they too will have the knowledge and experience to carry the department. We need new officers here as well. It provides for a well rounded police department. And so there should be a well rounded contract with fair raises for all that will attract both new officers and keep the senior officers. Because frankly, without both the police department will be no better that the thugs they are supposed to protect us from. THINK ABOUT THAT.

Anonymous said...

Well I hope someone counts how many of the 978 or so Officers APD has that show up. And if you are going to count the general public who arrive (family members of those cops that show) just remember to figure in the family members of the cops who didnt attend so neither did they. Which ever number is greater wins!!!!

Mayor Marty! Hes Our Mayor!

If you didn't like the contract you voted "no" , if you did you voted "yes". It's that easy. You keep crying that we only had "24 hours"...WWAAAAAAAAA..."stand together" ....hahahahahah...this is from the same guys that were throwing fellow officers under the bus..hahahah...I voted "yes" and after this i'll vote hell yes. I got ten years in this DEPT, so go ahead and say something about me. I respect Heh, and allways will, but you can't call it fair when one guy makes 19.00 (me) and another makes 21.00 with less time as a cop and on Dept.....CAN YOU?...So go ahead and trash me like you guys have been trashing everybody that doesn't see it your way and say "let's stand together"...hahahahahahahah.

I think it is a great idea. It is about time we stop the city from walking all over us. By the way, I am a NEW officer. I think its nonsense that we were thrown this contract with no explanation, nothing. When is it whining when we are standing up for our rights and our beliefs? I, unlike Steven Arias, feel lke crap taking a HUGE raise when the senior officers are left to dry, we are each others 82...

Anonymous said...

This division is a reflection of a lack of leadership. The department has failed us (or succeeded, depending how you look at it) and the APOA failed us. Now the people who are willing to step up and bring light to all this are under attack by the same people here who want people to identify themselves yet log on as Anonymous as well.

Agree with Paul Heh or not, extend him the courtesy and respect for stepping up and standing in the light. Should "new" officers get a raise? I don't know, should they at the expense of others? The city failed us all and pointing fingers at each other only empowers them. This is an opportunity for us to police ourselves....

Many of the comments on this blog obviously come from persons unfamiliar with (legal) civil uprisings and their benefits. You must have grown up here with the land-grant, don't-rock-the-boat mentality. (Or you are APOA officers pretending to be naysayers.) This is the way such changes start. It is one of the great precepts of our democracy. There is nothing bad or wrong with it. Such actions keep corruption in check, and boy could we use that here in NM. For your information, it's the way all those other states out there (you know - the ones with a hell of a lot less corruption) do it. Get on board, and stop dissing those who are pushing for change. In this case, change is vital to our protection as citizens of Albuquerque. If you're going to blog here, at least pretend that you understand how this kind of change works! Albuquerque is growing up, and it's about damned time.

I read somewhere in another blog on eye where a veteran officer has some info about Ray Schultz which could incriminate him in some way. Nows the time to bring it out, you have our support. Dont just threaten, lets show this corrupt administration that we mean buisness. ALL officers unite, we have a dangerous job and should support eachother. United we Stand. US against them....

Paul Heh is stirring the pot and then he is going to retire in December. Real stand up guy. Maybe he and the other Sgts and LTs that are griping will be able to threaten the City Counsel like they did the rooks. NOT

"Paul Heh is stirring the pot and then he is going to retire in December. Real stand up guy. Maybe he and the other Sgts and LTs that are griping will be able to threaten the City Counsel like they did the rooks. NOT"

IDIOT!

I worked for Sgt. Heh as a rookie, and I learned more from him than any other Sgt. or Lt. I never got threatened, but when I screwed up, he let me know...and he didn't sell my ass down the river...he always backed me up...just like he's got the backs of EVERYONE on his squad. Sgt. Heh is one of the hardest working Sgt.'s in this department, and he expects the same of every 34 in his squad...did you get "threatened" because you couldn't live up to the same standards? Get your head out of your ass before you open your mouth.

For the officers showing up at 5:30 for the rally -- don't forget to bring the pampers (size xxs) it's time to change Paul's diaper. I have never seen so much crap!

For those of you who haven't read the "Growing Green - Drowning in Red" thread and blogs, you must! There is a reader on there who wants to make up bumper stickers reading "MUCK FARTY 2009". This is hilarious and I would like get one to wear with pride on the back of my vehicle! Ha! MUCK FARTY...that is just too good, does anyone agree? What would we be then, Farty Haters?

Anonymous said...

I am really amazed by how much negativity has accompanied an attempt to give us all a raise. I would hate to see what happened if a group of APD officers won the lottery. The great humanitarian and social activist Sgt. Heh would probably begin fasting in protest of their good fortune. All those interested in showing support for being against-- what isn't good for Paul and participating in the hunger strike can meet him at Dunkin donuts,Mcdonalds,Popeyes,KFC ....

All this rocking the boat is gonna piss off the powers that be and NO ONE will get a decent pay raise. If you think they'll bring back Longevity with a decent hourly increase your outta your freaking mind. Quit complaining about not everyone being able to vote, I'm sure there were just as many junior 34s as there were senior 34s that didnt vote. If the contract is put up for a re-vote your still gonna lose. Why, because the majority of 34s want it to pass and they want APD manning to increase with better candidates in the selection pool which at the current hourly wage is more like a muddy puddle. There will never be a contract that EVERYONE supports. It's going to be a long hard ride for the department after this mess, especially, if the mayor gets re-elected. For those rocking the boat, sit down shut up and work to improve the department instead of tearing it down. Yeah 5/8s, new CADS, and the Chief suck, but man up dammit!!!!!!

I hope the citizens that read this blog see the type of officers APD has been hiring. Selfish and without integrity--- individuals who have no loyalty to anything but their own paycheck. Sounds like a mercenary mentality. They don't mind being paid with the longevity stolen from their "brother". It's down right scary. I don't want them showing up to my house. Send me someone not wet behind the ears.

Anonymous said...

How, exactly, is it being a "man" to shut up and take corruption? I am NOT APD, but I think your statement sounds like the voice of a fool. I'd prefer a police force that stands against corruption, especially in their midst, not hides and lumps it. Don't you guys (and girls) get it? If the public can't trust you to stand up to your own internal corruption and fight against it, why should we trust you with anything else? Or pay you, for that matter, if you're going to snivel in the corner and hide when you are dumped on, taking pot shots at the brave law enforcement officers who make a stand. Geez! Let's get it straight who the whiners are - the ones who are too chicken to stand on the street corner and say this is wrong. I am a small female without a gun, and I'm not a chicken. (Have fought my share of battles against corruption, out on the sidewalks of NM.) What's your excuse???

Anonymous said...

steve arias for mayor !

Its funny how Paul is getting slammed by a Captain for whining, when he (the capt.) got his raise.

Anonymous said...

Hell yeah, it's about time! Come on people, we're not going out on strike, we are just exercising our right to protest, to demonstrate, to vocalize how we feel as senior law enforcement that FARTY has once again shown how he has divided our department! Let's all stand together brothers/sisters/young/old/rookie
/veteran in blue and let 11th & 5th know that we together are stronger than their dirty politics!

Moron, you think this is about corruption???? HAHAHAHAHHAHA, to everyone out there complaining, your only complaining about the $$$$$$$$. And thats the bottom line, don't try and make yourselves out to be concerned for the department or the citizens, it's all about how much $$$$$$$$ you can get. The contracts been on tha APOA website since the last meeting. Have you read it yet? Besides the longevity change what else is in there thats worthy of "CRYING" corruption??????

Hey Granola Lady, go hug a tree or make another "No War For Oil" sign.

how can the contract be accepted when you yourself said officers were intimidated to vote. the contract needs to be voided.

arias you rook...you wefre at the council meeting. u stood up walked by a lt. a sgt and several officers shaking one officers hand and snubbing your nosed to everyone else.

you are still wet behind the ears and already you alone have sent at least one lt and two sgts to I.a. base don your allegations of intimidation...nice....hope your 82 igrham is with you eveery wheere you go.

How dare HEH stand in front of the City Council and say he is there representing all Officers, then he manipulates his wording in regards to the contract. Then further more he states he just received a copy of the contract. First I did not endorse him to represent me and many others feel the same way. There have been copies of the contracts at each substation, on the APOA website, the APOA Office, and they were handed out at the city wide bid for anyone who wanted a copy. Maybe he needs to be investigated for truthfulness.....or better yet let's use some union funds and buy him a fishing pole and cigars so he will retire. He'll still have ample funding coming in from all the DWI stops he conducts (which is all he does) then passes them on to other Officers so he can get the Court overtime. I can't believe people are falling for the snow job he's delivering in the middle of the desert.

Anonymous said...

if anyone needs to be investigated for untruthfulness, you can start with the 5th floor!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

If the city wants young, college- educated recruits to come to APD they need this contract.

Anonymous said...

Waahoo, Paul Heh flexed his mighty little muscle and a whole 5 officers showed up at Council tonight. I was there and saw the "Big Rally" outside. I guess I should correct myself, it was 3 cops along with Alfred and Joe. Good luck fellas cuz the little toad made you all look like fools.

Do the math!!!!! Everyone will make more significantly more money. I task you to show me where in the private sector, a high school graduate makes $28 an hour, has a take home vehicle, great medical benefits, and has an opportunity to retire @ 20years with 401 k bonus to stay!!! People say this contract divides the department??? Look at the pay scales now, this contract will fix all this!!!! People if this goes to a vote again, vote to pass it; you will never see this type of raise again! Stop whining and grow up, you are all adults! We all do the same job and should be compensated equally!!

Anonymous said...

Wow, a whopping 6 people, trying to mess it up for the other hundreds. I doubt the sgt. told the council he is one of the highest paid police officers in the city. Thats factual to all you media types that bought into this crap

Anonymous said...

All this gets worse by the minute! I think if something constructive is not done here soon, things are going to swirl out of control. Most officers are losing trust for APOA amidst all the allegations. This contract has put a wedge between most rooks and veterans. It is shameful!

Some of us think what is needed here is a neutral person to review the current union practices and suggest recommendations to the membership. In briefing today some of us were wondering if anyone has approached someone like Alex Marentas to come onboard and help us fix this mess. He appears to be very knowledgeable about union matters, knows the APOA history real well and understands how the APOA should function. I is he involved in the union now and if so at what capacity? Is he allowed to be involved as a CSA?

At this point in time, with so much heated emotion on both sides, this seems like the only resolution at hand. Honestly some of us are not that excited with Pau Heh, nor do we trust this board to get it right. Right now this union is in peril of losing all unity in power, or maybe it already has. I just hate to see this continue and tear us up like it has.

Be safe

Let's look at the past..hhmmmm...Apd ofiicers are told by Union Prez Paul Pacheco to vote down pera reduction.. "they'll give us what we want", said the Prez...Most in Apd went at least four years without a pay raise...How did that work for you DUMBASSES. I missed three steps....All these SGT's are crying because they didn't get another raise..WWWAAAAAA....Let's get the record right fellas, when Heh does a 47, guess who comes to take it PATROL OFFICERS..that's right...Yeah the leadership is jacked up and it starts with KENNY, CASS(what ever she's calling herself this week), ROSEMAN and the rest of those babies...So young officers you can see how well there ideals have worked in the past...LIKE A BAG OF ASS...Its not the 5th or 11 floor that you have to watch, its at your substation, they wearing stripes and bars.

It is all about Paul Heh and his overtime and his cash out. I was never stopped by this man but know that he does not care about his BROTHERS IN LAW ENFORCEMENT, dont let him kid you.

All officers and their families do not have to be told about the sacrifices made on a daily basis that come from a member of the family with someone who chooses to wear a badge. The harsh reality exists for me every night when I kiss my husband goodnight before he goes on his shift knowing there is a chance (greater than most other professions) that he might not come home. As the wife of an officer, all of this petty political wrangling and the PUESDO concerns of Sergeant Heh sadden me. You are divisive; you are a wedge; and maybe its time for you to go; move on with your life because you are putting your need for longevity pay and yourself first before the greater good of the force. No disrespect to you but I trust the people my husband goes to work with (junior or senior) and I know they trust him to be there when it counts. Frankly, it saddens me to say that I don't trust you. Some people always have to look at everything like it is a conspiracy instead of counting their blessings. Unlike you, my husband does this job because he loves it. Although he is a newer officer, he is fortunate to have a second retirement that supliments our family's income. You probaly can't remember what its like to be head of a household raising young children on an inadequate salary. As a wife I can't vote but I want to support a contract that has already been approved by the majority of officers and see the fighting STOP!

I was one of those people, and I counted a hell of a lot more than 5 (or 6). What - are you going to keep revising the number up till you get to the truth? Is that what you do when you fill out a police report, too? Maybe that's why half the time a citizen can't even find your reports when trying to request one! The last one I obtained was missing two pages, including the page with an extensive list of witnesses. (It was a DWI that seriously injured and nearly killed two of us.) When I asked the author, the officer, for the two pages, he simply renumbered the pages. Can the city just fire you dumbasses? You are the ones that make this city so damned dangerous. All you care about is yourselves - you get your money and you don't even care about those that have your back on the job. There is no honor, no glory in that. The public has absolutely no respect for you, and one day you're gonna wish we did. You are not kings, just serfs, and we will remember your dishonorable comments on this site.

The vote was split nearly down the middle from what I understand. It seems to me your department does not appreciate the wealth of experience a seasoned employee brings to the work place. In the real world (outside of government) one is paid by the years of experience they bring to their job. At least it has been in every job I've held in the private sector. From my understanding that is why longevity pay was offered to seasoned officers in the first place, to adequately compensate for years of experience brought onto the job. I too would be pissed if that pay was stripped from me in order to pay someone else's salary. It is also my understanding that a union as such is supposed to represent the best interests of all it's members. I wonder when your union got in the middle of doing the recruiting for the City of Albuquerque? It seems that would be the job of the city, not the union. Instead of attacking eachother why not ask these questions of your union? It doesn't appear all members best interests were represented and the sad thing is you guys/gals pay them to do just that. Regardless if you got into the job to give back to the community or make a livable wage you guys are tearing eachother down on this blog, surely you can work this out to where everyone feels they are being compensated fairly. Maybe you ought to hire private negotiators next time you iron out a contract with the city. Just an observation from a citizen who probably doesn't understand much. Be safe out there!

As a taxpayer, I cannot express how disappointed I am when I see the handful of upper rank officers, close to retirement, showing only concern for themsleves. This contract as I understand, is designed to attract quality officers, of management potential. You have forgotten your oath to us, Albuquerque citizens.
Your "experience" and example is not needed.Retire now. You undermine APD for your own gain.
Shame on you.I would prefer an officer that hasn't forgotten the oath you took as a rookie cop.
Bring pride back to the badge.

Get it right, YOU do the math, private sector people get paid for their years of experience, just as everyone in every profession should. I am not talking about making 28 dollars an hour, which is what the problem you all think is what people are complaining about. It's the fact that people with more experience are going to be paid the same as people that just walk on the job, think about it. Use your high school brain.

If you are truly a PIG (Pride Integrity Guts), then I 've foolishly believed that all men behind the badge are a "cut above" being fully cognizant that you ARE a taxpayer as well( a given).
I am a totally disabled retired US Army (28 yrs) vet. When I was promoted, a raise came with it, unlike your present pay system. In the future, a promotion will mean a pay raise as well. I fear YOU view all of us city citizens as "perps" in all situations regardless of guilt or innocence. You are the type of officer that I fear, so I ask you sir, please bring HONOR and RESPECT back to your badge. Respectfully signed, NUMBNUTS/taxpayer/non 34, (corrected spelling for your NUMNUTS). I am also close to 34's, high and low, whom I listen to, and support 100%. I welcome the painful but needed changes,so APD will continue to be our "finest". Sir, please act like our finest, which you do NOT reflect now in all your angry misspelled sputterings. PS- I pray NOT to go to hell as you wish for me, for fear of bumping into you sir.
