Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the electoral waters... it's time to start ramping up for not one but TWO elections in 2009. February features the little noticed (except by teachers unions) APS School Board election and coming in October is the first publicly financed mayoral fiasco.
It may be early but our Eyes downtown have ears and they're starting to hear the whispers of ambition echoing through the halls of city power. There will be five council seats on the ballot and The Almighty Alcalde will either have to defend his 11th floor office or ride into the green sunset.
Our Eyes have it that The Almighty Alcalde is hoping to land a high paid gig with the Greens in Washington. Apparently the Greens on the national tree haven't heard about Marty's flirtations (some might say collusion) with the development community - a partnership that came to a screeching halt once Marty decided to run for Governor... uh, Senat... aw hell mayor looks good.
Marty's leftward lurch was no doubt an effort to appease his more liberal detractors. The move doesn't appear to have worked as that's the very group that damn near dragged Tom Udall out of his northern Congressional district to make him New Mexico's next Senator.
Never one to be out of options, Marty made sure that he wouldn't have to rely on the Greens for employment by suing the city that he runs to overturn the City Charter's prohibition on third terms. In one of the most bizarre displays of court room unity the plaintiff (Marty), the City (defense attorneys hired by the city run by Marty) and the Judge all agreed that term limits were unconstitutional under the State Constitution. So... The Almighty Alcade has the option of becoming His Honor for life.
Our Eyes tell us that Marty has been heard to say that if District 5 Councilor Michael Cadigan were to run then the Greens would have to find another Washington lobbyist. We think that the Green thing and the whole Candigan ploy is hhhhhhogwash. Marty's running because no one else wants him and the Greens have probably figured out by now that the "greening" of the Q is more about the gaining of political power for The Almighty Alcalde.
Which brings us to Councilor Cadigan... The District 5 two termer is looking to move up to the 11th Floor and probably figures that after three terms Marty fatigue has got to have set in. He's also no doubt banking on the recent rejections by Democrats of the current 11th floor occupant to give him a leg up with city Ds.
Meanwhile, there's another unlikely whisper careening through downtown halls - Councilor Sally Mayer. Councilor Mayer has been consistently supported by the development community and who knows... if the Ds are busy duking it out in the Duke City she might just pull an upset.
Meanwhile down in the council chambers there are the echoes of two past councilors who could be seeking a return to city hall. Interestingly, both are current County Commissioners whose terms would end in 2010. Our Eyes tell us that Alan Armijo and Michael Brasher may have designs on returning to their respective council districts.
Thankfully, the 2009 election season is still a few months off. But, 2009 promises to be an intriguing year none the less even if it begins with a few whispers and not the thunderous explosion of Senator Domenici's cataclysmic retirement.
The Piercing Truth
This is right from the dictionary and seems to describe Albuquerque, Berry and Schultz. Fascism (f ash ,izem) noun An authoritarian right wing system of government and/or social organization. (in general use) extreme right wing, authoritarian, chauvinistic and/or intolerant views or practices. Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one group over another, national, ethnic, especially social strata or monetarily; a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach. The latest in the halls of montezuma are White for Mayor. And maybe, just maybe the rumors may be true, but Wilson has thrown in her name in the hat for a possible run for Governor.
Go Republicans
Cadigan for Mayor!
Not to defend Marty but the court's ruling was based on a previous ruling that found that term limits for City Counselors were unconstitutional.
If 2 portions of the city charter are unconstitutional than why isn't the whole thing??
Interesting that Smarty used paid city attorneys on city time and money to sue the city that he rules.
I wonder if he too has city employees doing work at his house on city time like Fire Chief Ortega?
Cadigan for Mayor? The "Ban Man"?!
I know whatever City Worker is smoking they didn't inhale at Monte's Cigar Bar.
MARTY DOES NOT HAVE A CHANCE AT MAYOR AND HE KNOWS IT! STICK A FORK IN HIM. MARTY IS DONE!
YOU CANNOT LEGISLATE THE POOR INTO FREEDOM BY LEGISLATING THE WEALTHY OUT OF FREEDOM. WHAT ONE PERSON RECEIVES WITHOUT WORKING FOR, ANOTHER PERSON MUST WORK FOR WITHOUT RECEIVING.
THE GOVERNMENT CANNOT GIVE TO ANYBODY ANYTHING THAT THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT FIRST TAKE FROM SOMEBODY ELSE. WHEN HALF OF THE PEOPLE GET THE IDEA THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE TO WORK
BECAUSE THE OTHER HALF IS GOING TO TAKE CARE OF THEM, AND WHEN THE OTHER HALF GETS THE IDEA THAT IT DOES NO GOOD TO WORK BECAUSE SOMEBODY ELSE IS GOING TO GET WHAT THEY WORK FOR, THAT MY DEAR FRIEND, IS ABOUT THE END OF ANY NATION.
YOU CANNOT MULTIPLY WEALTH BY DIVIDING IT.

A million names on a watch list is training Americans to submit to warrantless searches, to abandon their constitutional rights, and to submit to humiliation by thugs and bullies. A Gestapo is being trained to have no qualms about searching and intimidating fellow citizens, using any excuse to arrest them. Americans are being taught to use arbitrary power and to submit to arbitrary power. In the false name of “safety from terrorists,” Americans are being made the least safe people on earth.
Cadigan for Mayor? The "Ban Man"?!
You have got to be kidding me with that post, right.....?!
Aaahhh let us go over some of the stuff that has been banned by Mayor "Ban Man" Chavez.
1. Cell phones useage in a moving vehicle (In the name of Public Safety)
2. My dog eerrr I mean his NUTS. "Ban Man" is really concerned if my dog has his nuts.
3. Red Light Scameras. In the name of Public Safety (back door tax on the people). Notice how Mayors across New Mexico have caught on to this method of taxing the people in the name of Public Safety i.e. (Santa Fe, Las Cruces, Espanola).....???
4. The condition of my yard (weeds/watering). My property tax bill is still the same but the house is worth less today (weeds or not). (I know idiot savant property tax is county). Weeds/watering is the point here.
5.For the ultimate gaf by the "Ban Man" and his goon squad at City Hall. You went after the "Posole Bandits", and tried to shut down a(n) 85 year tradition...?
I can go on and on but it's listless and tiresome just like "Ban Mans" leadership lately (the last 3 years).
P.S. Anxiously awaiting the next intrusion (Ban) on my everyday day life by The Mayor (for life) a.k.a (Ban Man) Martin Chavez!
This Democrat would vote for Brad Winter for Mayor. I always vote for him as my council person. He uses common sense.
"What improves the circumstances of the greater part can never be regarded as an inconveniency to the whole. No society can surely be flourishing and happy, of which the far greater part of the members are poor and miserable."

Please don't suggest that the mantra of the Bible is "to each their own". Adrian Rogers? Puhlease.
Anybody but White for Mayor!!!!!!!If he makes it, the city will never get anything done!!! Lack of doing anything in the SO is proof of that...
Marty's done and can't win an election for dog catcher and he knows it! He will just put out enough info to see if the city hates him that much to see if he has any chance at all. Marty you don't!
The golden parachute for fat cat government workers is fully inflated on the backs of workers. Case in point, Jay Hart is retiring from Albuquerque (director of Parks and Rec), he will wait 90 days and will then start with Rio Rancho as their director of Parks and Rec. Hmmmmmm he will be banking over well over 6 figures a year with his with his state pension and Rio Rancho job. The fat cats get fatter! I know there are highly qualified workers in Rio Rancho who could do this job. The retiree return to work act has created a glass ceiling for lower level workers and a golden parachute for the fat cats. There are almost 4000 of these fat cats back double dipping while regular New Mexicans either can't get a promotion or can't get hired because these fat cats don't leave.
The Wall Street guys have nothing on our New Mexico government fat cats.
RE: P.S. Anxiously awaiting the next intrusion (Ban) on my everyday day life by The Mayor (for life) a.k.a (Ban Man) Martin Chavez!
You will always have a hold on life as it should be as long as Marty, his army, and people like him are in charge. He thinks there are bigger problems then there really are. I'm not sure anybody is in fact ready to deal with real problems in this town. I hope we never have the need.
Let us pray that changes are in store for the City of Albuquerque too; all the re-treads need to get new jobs and let the "people" serve the "people"-----term limits were designed to stop corruption, so see what happens when we eliminate them... take a look around
Martin Hilter Chavez. ABQ needs someone that is not corrupt and does use his position of power for bad things or cover up crimes. We need to elect someone with intergrity that is honest and not just power hungry.
The Mayor saw what happen when he ran for the US Senate. He will get a repeat performance when he tries to run for re-election for Mayor.
You'll get over it....
11-21 7:10 I challenge you to find a safer nation in the world. Every industrialized nation including France has experienced attacks on thier citizens in the the past 6 years. What few rights you have given up has saved lives. I suggest you raise your hand and serve your fellow man to contribute to the blanket of safety you enjoy. This does not mean serving crack on your local street corner...or holding a sign stating stop the war. Only those who have been there deserve the right to criticize those of us who serve...wheather it be in blue or green. I suggest you move to one of those safe countries such as Iran, Somilia, Iraq, or Russia. I will buy you the one way ticket. Maybe you should stop breaking the laws and you would see less of the police. I dont have those problems and neither does anyone I know...maybe its just you.
You got to admit, whether you like smarty Marty or not, the City is a better place to live. Maybe not crime, but the quality of life. Parks, libraries, zoo, bio park, dog parks. By the way, it seems that I see all the police and fire getting the raises and driving around nice cars while the rest of the city workers get nothing. I also know that all jobs in the city are frozen, except police of course. You guys are whiners. No one can beat smarty Marty and he knows it. Four more years, get used to it.
11-21 8:46
I am a patriot and I do faithfully serve my nation. People like you, who could care less about law do not offer any cloke of safety! Other states don't have any different problems you suppose this state has. Everyone I know sees what is going on. You decieve yourself, not us. Re-read our U.S. (or state)constitution that you have probably sworn to uphold and don't understand, or follow. You are one of the few who still doesn't get it and you are not above it! Many of my friends have fought and have died for the freedom we share in this country. I am thankful to them. In their honor, I will still fight for freedom. I too have been there and I deserve the right to criticize you at any time I choose. I thank goodness I don't serve under you!
11-25 10:40
I return to your first entry 11-21 at 7:10. I am amazed you call yourself a patriot. You talk about Gestapo, a million names on a terrorist watch list, thugs and warrantless searches. How do you faithfully serve your nation? I question this because I respect your freedom to believe but I have little respect for those who can spew off on those who risk thier lives daily for your freedoms only to have you take the stance you do. You remind me of one of the sixties hippies whose lack of ambition became a quest against the establishment. If you truely served you would have more respect. I also have the right to view you as a leftist joke..and I too thank goodness you dont serve under me. At least we can agree on that.
November 25, 2008 10:09:00 PM MST
Don't feel you are risking your life for me or anyone else I know. My friends and I are able to take care of ourselves without you (I never needed you or can't remember ever calling on you for your assistance in the first place). It is you that applied for the job you have. Even though I recognize you step over the boundries daily, I'm glad you think you are making some good contribution. I only wish you could do your job without abusing the authority that has been given to you!
Police State
I had an unpleasant experience with a couple crooked APD officers. In short, my brother had been pulled over on Tennessee and Central, and I decided to go see what was going on, being that it was just down the road from my apartment. My friend and I walked along the opposite side of the street to avoid interfering and I asked my brother what was going on. He said he didn’t know.
At that point, the officer in the passenger seat jumped out, yelling, “What the fuck are you doing? Get on the side of the grass now!” So we did just that, even though I thought maybe he wasn’t quite reacting the right way. I tried to explain to him the situation, that he was my brother, we lived down the street and we just wanted to see what the deal was.
He told me to get my hands out of my pocket, and as I was taking them out, he threw me to the cement and put me in cuffs. “Why am I being arrested?” I demanded. He punched me in the nose. I watched from the back of a cop car as my friend was beaten by the other cop and brought over to the curb and repeatedly Tasered and kicked in the ribs on the curb, after he was in cuffs. At the police station, they had the nerve to tell us it could have been worse, they could have shot us!
Even though this happened awhile ago, I know that some of this behavior by APD still goes on and is inexcusable. They tried to make justifications for using force, when really all was needed was a little explaining.
The Police Oversight Committee disregarded the complaint.
11-26 1:09
Oh dont flatter yourself. I dont feel as if I'm risking my life for you or anyone else for that matter. My service...over 20 years of it is for my own ideals. You are right...I volunteered for all of that. But dont fool yourself...protesting and fighting against the establishment is not public service. It is not patriotism. Ask those in uniform how much they appreciate your voice on thier behalf..and remeber they volunteered also. Dont kid yourself on the reasons you do what you do...it is for your own self gratification..those us in the military present and past dont want that kind of help...its slaps in our faces..and as for law enforcement ...just like the last post your bad cop theories are mostly fantasy. As for you taking care of yourself I'm sure you can...thats why you get on these blogs and cry about everything. If you think I'm tired of it you're right...like I said MOVE SOMEWHERE ELSE and quit dishonoring your friends who have died for this country...make believe or real. real.
I hear Brad Winter is considering running for Mayor again. Perhaps this time he will win and we can rid this town of the problems we have on the 11th floor!
If the POC disregarded you complaint they must be part of the conspiracy too. I mean since they see hundreds of complaints a year and hear endless tales of yet another victim policed they of course have no expertise nor experience in hearing complaints....
hahah nice story! i saw that one on the tv series the Shield too!
Brad Winter, the COO of APS, would not get my vote. If APS is any indication, he'd have the city bankrupt in no time.
As much as I want Marty out, show me a viable candidate to oppose him.
November 28, 2008 1:47:00 PM MST
Who's crying? I would rather believe it is God who gave us the right to be free, not you. You should be concentrating your efforts on the real enemies of this country. You should go to Iraq, or somewhere else instead of fighting Americans. Show a little respect for the citizens you think you are protecting! Obviously you like to spend your time on these blogs as well. I have no reason to move elsewhere. Deal with it.
Brad Winters "work" at APS cannot simply be ignored. He oversaw the waste of millions of tax dollars, not the least of which were pumped into remodeling the Uptown Administrative Retirement Complex and their completely unjustifiable new board room.
Brad Winter won't tell the truth about why he canceled fire safety inspections in schools to pay for the board room.
I wouldn't vote for Brad Winter for dog catcher!
Hahahahah....what a story,,HollyWEIRD could use you for a script writer.Need 2 stop watching so muchTV.....
I learned in Iraq that the No. 1 reason foreign fighters flocked there to fight were the abuses carried out at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo. Our policy of torture was directly and swiftly recruiting fighters for al-Qaeda in Iraq. … It’s no exaggeration to say that at least half of our losses and casualties in that country have come at the hands of foreigners who joined the fray because of our program of detainee abuse. The number of U.S. soldiers who have died because of our torture policy will never be definitively known, but it is fair to say that it is close to the number of lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001. How anyone can say that torture keeps Americans safe is beyond me — unless you don’t count American soldiers as Americans.
The POC disregarded your complaint because they could tell it was bullsh**. Another made up story about APD brutality. Get a life and don't interfere with police investigations.
... There is no difference in concept between a high school-educated policeman asking me where I got my money and demanding that I justify its possession or a priest in Spain in 1492 demanding to know why I don't eat pork. I am judged by my answer, not by any accusation or evidence of a crime.
Our constitutional protection of due process presumes innocence and demands that accusation and a hearing occur before punishment. In (the case of property seizures) the police are the prosecutor, the judge, the jury and the prison guard. When we write about this in foreign countries we usually call it a dictatorship.
It seems important to remember that we have an exceptional form of government. It is exceptional in that "We the People" have all the authority, and delegate a limited amount of power to our government by way of the Constitution. We retained all the power we did not convey. ...
Several of the quotes in the article make clear the mindset of the police and the basis of the problem, for example:
"... The point is to punish the bad guys. Otherwise we're giving computers back to child pornographers and money back to drug dealers."
It is clear here that the policeman set himself up as the accuser, the judge and jury. He asserts that he is protecting our children from pornographers, a lofty goal, but no more lofty than the priest's intent to save the person's immortal soul.
The lofty goal does not justify the means. The job of the police is to stop crime and to bring the accused to the proper authorities for a hearing based on evidence.
Tom Udall, congressman and soon our senator, recently stated in a campaign ad that he is a "problem solver." The problem of eroding rights of citizens seems like a good one for a new senator who is also an able attorney. ...
Isn't it funny how cops pretend every incident of their abuse of power that doesn't have video evidence is made up? This on the very same board where cops frequently accuse their fellow officers of covering up felonies and misdemeanors for Marty and his cronies.
Give it a rest tough guy. Nobody is impressed by your macho posturing. We all know that if you hadn't had a cousin on the force to get you into the academy you'd be a petty criminal just like everyone else of your caliber. Instead you're just a state sanctioned petty criminal who's effectively above the law. Try some of your pathetic intimidation against a real combat veteran and see how far it gets you.
Feel free to prove me wrong. There's ample evidence of Marty's spousal abuse and drunken driving/hit and run, go arrest him in Civic Plaza for the whole world to see. What, would that impede your promotion path? Until you do something that actually requires bravery you should keep your mouth shut about those of us that have actually served the country in combat.
There is an interesting string coming from the post about the fellow who was “punched in the nose”, and a strong subtext of anti-police feeling here. Let me address this individual, whom I believe is responsible for many posts here, and I’ll address you sir as Mr. Grimm (As in the Brothers Grimm, writers of fables).
Sir, no doubt along the course of your day you find a way to inject some anti-police commentary to folks you talk with. Let me point out that one thing you can no longer say about cops is that they are lazy.
You see, based on your story, officers could have simply completed their traffic stop of your brother and left, no muss, no fuss, no paperwork.
They could have, but as Steve Martin used to say ; But NOOOOOOOO, they decided to leap from the car and pounce on you like the helpless kitten you are. First off, at a scene where they were already actively engaged with a person and most likely running not only recording devices but dash cam video as well, they decide to accost you and start cussing, immediately drawing a reprimand for their language.
They then decide on the spur of the moment to beat and arrest you for no reason, again jeopardizing their livelihood and pensions simply because you look like such a tasty target of opportunity that they can’t help themselves (all this time you are doing NOTHING wrong and in fact reading aloud from scripture or something).
Then after deciding that you need to be beaten, instead of using any of the many tools they have on their belts they “punch you in the nose” risking not only an career threatening injury to their hand but also marking you and making you bleed -- ooops, that’s more paperwork, and photographs of the injury, etc. etc..
Then they decide, due no doubt to the feeding frenzy that your timid, non violent, Gandhi like demeanor produces, to beat and taser and kick your friend, apparently only due to his life choice involving friendship with you.
After all this, and the additional involvement of at minimum 5 more documents, plus photos, plus at least 3 extra officer’s time and energy, we will finally arrive at the need for the POC and IRO’s office involvement.
Imagine my surprise to learn that those folks have been disciplining officers for trite and silly little administrative things for all these years only to set the stage for the grand conspiracy that is your case.
Why, those diabolical bastards!!! I had no idea; here we have a sum total of about 20 civilians including staff, and investigators etc. plus another 6 or 7 cops and supervisors, all setting in motion years of planning, just so someone could randomly run into you on a street corner and punch you…..amazing.
If only they had used that time and energy to “catch a real criminal “ huh?
Wow, all that said I can see how you’d feel put out by your misadventure, but you sure can’t ever call those boys lazy again, can you?
12-1 8:49
Funny how you challenge these officers to stand up to a real combat vet. at least 1/3 are real combat vets from the military. There are numerous with Bronze Stars w/V device...Purple Hearts...and at least one Silver Star. They come from every walk of the military including Special Forces, Ranger, Infantry, Pilots and on and on. Wake up.
I see that "you'll get over it" is back.
Such a profound statement, so articulate and obvious a martyfanasskisser.
I thought posting on city time was a no no.
All these police officers/combat vets and nobody with courage enough to keep the Mayor honest.
Eye, if you're only going to post every other week or couple of weeks people will stop reading your site.
I've found that the officers that actually are combat vets are the ones who don't attempt to intimidate people.
Its the roided up lottery scholarship dropouts that make up the majority of the younger cadre that are giving the dept a bad name.
If you have ever arrested or assaulted a citizen for making non-threatening physical contact with you you are a disgrace to the badge and to your country. That female officer who arrested the paramedic who brushed by her to reach a patient the other day claiming it was assault on an officer should be fired immediately. That (and the concept that an old man - either "throwing" (tossing) a pen at an officer or dropping the pen on the ground according to whom you believe) constitutes assault on an officer is the kind of thing that makes the citizenry believe that APD is out of control.
I'd love to see how the average APD officer would respond to getting ticketed for not wearing a seat belt when they have a doctor's note explaining why they can't wear the seatbelt. I suspect it would be much more physical than lightly tossing the pen.
Nobody is going to take cops seriously until they stop pretending that completely non-threatening physical contact constitutes assault.
Non threatening physical contact??? Lets look at that. NMSA..thats New Mexico Statutes Annotated...the laws which everyone is supposed to abide by...states that the touching of another in a rude and insolent manner constitutes a battery. The same book says that a reasonable person who fears he is going to be battered...that constitutes an assault. You complain about cops not upholding a standard...letting people go for crimes but when they do take enforcement action you bitch. Throwing a pen at or hitting an officer is a crime..elderly or not should go to jail. And if that good citizen was so right he shouldve held his mud went to court and not throw the pen at all. I'm sure whatever your job is just willy nilly fires people with no due process...if a law enforcement agency fired every officer on each action or accusation they would be no body left. And for what reason would anyone have to touch an officer...threatening or not in the line of duy in a way that could be controversial? You sir are an idiot...and your idea about the combat vet...well some of them are the ones being raked over on this site also. I wish some of you would do some research and check your fact before you post on this site. The majority of the public feels people like you are the disgrace to your community and your country...like the 60s hippies.
wtf? paramedic arrested for being brushed? what has the dept come to? fire that female 34!
Eye,
Let's talk DWI for a while.
What the hell is going on? I'm getting ready to move out of here. My kids are 13 and 11 but I can't see letting them drive in this state.
Marty will never win another election and he knows it! He has screwed over most of his support and they will be looking for someone new. Bye Smarty
Hey Mister "I had an unpleasant experience with a couple crooked APD officers"...you'll get over it!
Nobody likes APD because of their "Nazi style policing" ..... and I mean NOBODY ... straighten up and fly right!
chill out...& get over it.
Hey Mister, You'll get over it. Arrests and jail are not supposed to be pleasant. If they were there would be no deterrance for committing crimes. Im sure youre like all the others minding thier business when the big bad cops with nothing better to do than risk thier jobs to unleash dispecable acts on you.

Doctor Tells Jury He Was Roughed Up by APD
By Scott Sandlin
Journal Staff Writer
The central figure in an excessive force and wrongful arrest lawsuit was in U.S. District Court on Monday, contending that he was roughed up by Albuquerque Police Department officers during an anti-war demonstration.
Police officers say they were using reasonable force to clear the streets in what they were managing as a public safety issue.
Dr. John Fogarty, a family practice physician who uses African drumming as a means of self-expression, told jurors about his shock, dismay and pain when officers grabbed him on the steps by the University of New Mexico bookstore during a protest on March 20, 2003.
Fogarty and his wife had decided to attend to protest the invasion of Iraq, and when he saw other drummers at the event, he returned to his car to get his Ghanaian drum.
But what Fogarty described as a lighthearted event took a turn when police, who had been ordering protesters to get off Central Avenue, launched streams of tear gas.
Fogarty said he was drumming and well away from the street when several officers in riot gear came at him, yanked his drum from his belt and forcibly carried him to a police holding van. He said officers were unidentifiable in gas masks, helmets and shields and refused to give him their names or tell him what he was being arrested for. Eventually, a supervising officer not in a mask told him the charge would be inciting a riot.
Attorney Jerry Walz, defending incident commander Capt. John Gonzales, suggested in his questioning that legitimate police commands couldn't be heard because the drumming drowned them out.
"Did it ever occur to you that you couldn't hear because you were drowning them out?" he asked. Fogarty said it hadn't.
He said he had a severe asthma attack from the tear gas and had wrist pain that persisted for three years from the wristlock an officer applied to his left arm. At the holding van, Officer Nadine Hamby realized his distress, called an ambulance and had him taken to the Presbyterian Hospital emergency room. He was never criminally charged.
"I couldn't believe it was happening ... that I was on a campus where I was teaching a class," he said. Fogarty said he was never ordered to stop drumming, although it appeared as though other drummers were being targeted by police.
December 5, 2008 8:39:00 PM,
I'm sure that given your strict interpretation of battery you'll support citizens arrests of all officers who touch citizens in a rude or insolent manner. After all, by your definition that is assault.
Honestly there's nothing more hilarious than all the tough guy cops stomping around in their black uniforms pretending to be important. Meanwhile the crime rates in the city are through the roof. Don't worry Albuquerque, if you need a cop just go to a place that gives them free food like Kelly's on Central, there'll be twenty or so of them there at any given time. For extra fun you can watch how they hit on the waitresses on duty.
Could you possibly be any more of a meathead stereotype? Not everyone who doesn't like incompetent and abusive cops is a 60's hippie. The 60's happened forty years ago, its time for you to stop pretending everyone who thinks you suck is on LSD.
The cop that was pushed by the paramedic did the right thing by arresting her. And she didn't just brush up against the cop.
That paramedic, Christine Stumps, has been verbally and physically abusive toward APD, AFD and sometimes patients for years. She's the one that should be fired.
Do your homework, hippie.
re:December 9, 2008 7:00:00 AM MST
See, that's a problem for us, it is really hard to defend APDs actions when John Gonzales was involved since he was actually a nut-ball (technical police term).
One of our biggest stumbling blocks as an agency seems to be defending ourselves when we have such brain dead leadership. John, for example, would run around quoting from Sun Tzu's book "The art of war". That sort of crap really makes him hard to defend and so it makes his decisions and the actions of officers carrying out his orders, hard to defend.
LOL .... You talk about hippies as if there is something wrong with that .... I know they had a special name for cops then and it appears that history is repeating itself .... You are worthy of the name!
Richard Romero would be a great Mayor!
APD is the best group of individuals I have ever known. They are professionsl, intelligent, friendly, well-spoken and courteous. I'm not an officer, but I do have contact with them on occasion and they're the best! Why don't you (whiners) get your facts straight, learn about the law, educate yourself before you go telling tall tales and making a fool of yourself. Huh? I hope you got locked up for interfering with an officer, you complete ass. You probably don't even have a job, let alone a job where every day you put your life on the line. You couldn't handle it, bro...
Hippies were bad idiot. They were then and are now seen as the armpit of that era...and usually smelled the part. There is not a single protest in the last 20 years that has changed one thing. Like you said those days are past. The difference in me and you...I can take being called a pig by people like you...its expected...its people like you that have a hard time realizing the rest of the population thinks you are as useless as I do. YOU are worthy of the name.
As a citizen I'm rather appaled at the people on this site that lashes out at law enforcement. Cops here do a good job and its a shame more of you cant see that. You should experience policing in civilized countries I have lived in like Germany, Italy. There officers can arrest at will and passive resistance results in physical force. Protests are met with water cannons and gas without warning. Be thankful for what you have. Good job APD and BCSO. You are appreciated. Dont let these left wing nut jobs get you down.
Is it just coincidence that about the time the Republican Party of New Mexico got a new executive director "The Eye" quit writing?
I like the 4th amendment in the U.S. constitution (describing the law of search and seizure of this country’s citizens, attaining warrants etc) ... and I always wonder how APD gets away with pulling someone over without probable cause. Lying to a judge is a big fault of some from APD personnel concerning obedience to law (any excuse to cite someone). I read the morning paper about break-ins of some legal offices downtown and a threat being made to a specific attorney concerning a lawsuit against APD. The KOB cameraman assaulted by an APD is seeking some justice from the law. When reading the article, it appears that the thugs doing the break-in and threatening a lawyer not to take legal action against APD are not a street gang (as we know them) but they are really members of a group who wear a uniform and a badge when they're not moonlighting. I have met a number of good cops, but I am not sure whom to trust anymore.
The word hippie was coined in the 1880’s in opium dens. When a person enjoyed the high they would lay on one hip so if they were to get sick they could lean over the bed and vomit into something, instead of on themselves.
12-9 8:57 Read NMSA. You'll see how these laws apply to peace officers in the line of duty. When a citizen breaks the law and then refuses to comply the statute of battery no longer applies to the officer "touching" the offender. Grow up meathead and just realize that there will never be a day when you can just do as you please contrary to moral decency and the law and answer to no one for your actions. Seems you are the one who believes they are above the law. To 12-10 7:10 car stops do not require probable cause...only reasonable suspicion. The standards under the law are not the same. Read up on it before you post that crap again.
I'm glad I tuned in .... I learn so much from those in the know ... but the obvious still exists

Of course this is good; it's Robin Williams!
The word "pig" was coined in the third century to describe a selfish animal concerned only with fattening itself at the expense of others. It principally dwells wallowing in mud created by its own urine and feces.
I don't think any of us "left wingers" (which is apparently what anyone who doesn't think cops should be allowed to do whatever they want are labeled) believe that the majority of cops are bad. The problem is that the small minority of cops who *are* bad (is there a single cop here who disputes this?) are protected from consequences by the blue wall of silence.
Cops portray this as loyalty and brotherhood but it is no more so than the similar codes of silence observed by criminal gangs.
Joe Schmedlap's post is BEAUTIFUL!!
All of you get a life, then do something constructive....please!!!

yeh ..... he looks like a suspicious hippie ..... I think I'll pull him over (who cares if I have a probable cause like the 4th amendment guarantees? He just "looks reasonably suspicious") I don't live by the "same standards" ... hmmmmm .... interesting!
Its obvious the above poster never di their homework. The work PIG, as referring to COPS came in the time of the great depression when NYPD posted on their squad cars Ptride Integrity and Guts. That is where the acronym comes from you idiot. THank you law enforcement for the thankless job you do.
Have a Blessed and Merry Christmas

You live in a state of denial. When someone calls you a “PIG”, the description has NOTHING to do with pride, integrity, or guts (which is not characteristic of law enforcement anyway). It has everything to do with an animal that wallows in the mire. An animal that does not make a distinction even in the food that they consume. A pig usually lives in a (pig) pen.
Of all of God’s creation, the animals you could align your character with (Dove [purity], Eagle [freedom], etc.) you choose to be whom you choose to be, a pig.
Also, nowhere in the bible does God tell us to “celebrate Christmas”. Scripture instructs believers to remember his death and the meaning of that concerning the sinners of the world. An innocent man (Jesus Christ) was convicted and died upon the cross by the leaders and authorities of the government. Now that’s an interesting thing to be associated with.
Have a good day.
Christmas is an invention of the Catholic church. It was used to replace the pagan celebration of the winter solstice. Jesus was actually born sometime in June, not December.
Similarly, the Catholic church declared Jesus's death to coincide with the vernal equinox, another pagan holiday.
I'm a pig 'cause I work with filth.
