The Piercing Truth

This is right from the dictionary and seems to describe Albuquerque, Berry and Schultz. Fascism (f ash ,izem) noun An authoritarian right wing system of government and/or social organization. (in general use) extreme right wing, authoritarian, chauvinistic and/or intolerant views or practices. Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one group over another, national, ethnic, especially social strata or monetarily; a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach. Eye on the Grapevine: Chief Schultz to Retire?

It looks as though Public Safety Director Darren White is or soon will be in the market for a new Chief. The Eyes on the grapevine have it that Chief Ray Schultz will be retiring perhaps as soon as July. Frankly, the move makes sense.

Meanwhile, the rumor mill has spun out a couple of scenarios. One where newly promoted Deputy Chief Beth Paiz was offered the job but turned it down and the post was offered to also newly promoted DC Allen Banks. The second spin was that Banks was offered the job outright and that Paiz was none too happy.

We're not sure which of the two is true or if either of them are. However, the retirement rumor makes sense. Chief Schultz has now completely earned his Chief's retirement and can ride into the sunset (or perhaps a job with the feds) pulling down over $200,000 a year.

Sometimes these things are simply products of an over active imagination or wishful thinking. Other times there's a nugget of truth there.

One thing is sure... If Albuquerque's top cop is leaving his perch on the 5th floor the replacement games are just beginning. Stay tuned.

What about eliminating the public safety director post and making Darren White Chief? Seems like the public safety director was a placeholder position to wait until Schultz was eligible for full retirement.

What a scam!!! That POS gets a second retirement after 5 years??? WTF!!!

How is Schultz making $200,000 per year from his PERA retirement? I checked with PERA and he is not allowed to draw two retirements.

Here is what the PERA handbook says:

1. Schultz could have suspended his DCOP retirement to work on a new high three with his chief pay.

2. Schultz could have been drawing his DCOP retirement and drawing his chief pay (double dipping). If he did this, his retirement benefit does not increase.

So EYE, as much as many of us don't care for Schultz management style, I think you should retract the $200,000 pension statement, call PERA and get the correct information.

The rumor I'd heard was that the plan all along was for Shultz to wait til July to retire for his pension, and then, in an act of 'budget cutting' so the mayor looks good, the position of PSD would be eliminated, and White would take up the Chief mantle.

yep. he was eligible for 2 retirements after june, which is why it was so important for him to keep his job. NO RETRACTION needed. Hes a POS and so is white.

You can only draw one retirement from PERA not two. His retirement is and will be what it is today with a 3% increase per year for the rest of his life like all PERA retires. He doesn't get a golden check. Where in the world do you guys get your information. It sounds like your informtion comes from the toliet, you should flush it. It sounds like dumb Sh@@.

the feds deserve him. He'll fit right in with a bunch of liars, no ethics, no honor, no back up, so called "agents". The feds only wish they were real cops...

Paiz would make a better Chief than Banks for sure. At least she has integrity and isn't afraid to speak her mind.....but then again...why should she want to be Chief? It would force her to deal with more politics than she already has to now. Banks on the other hand loves the politics. He has spent the last several yearss talking out of both sides of his mouth and telling everyone what he thinks they want to hear. And because of that, he has risen to the top. However, he has no track record of ever standing up for anyone other than himself. When things get "hot" he distances himself...and when things are good he likes to take credit......on second though....Banks would be a perfect fit with the cast of shady characters that are running things now...he is already a devoted minion to Darren and Ray.

...and what about DCOP Callaway?? I guess no one wants to hire him anywhere. Could it be because of his great track record of standing up for his officers and his wonderful employee morale skills? I think not. I guess no one wants him to destroy their departments... maybe he will stick around to put his name in the hat.

Gee, I am late to this post. I hadn't heard anything about Ray Ray as I quit taking the rag a/k/a ABQ Journal. But I voted for Barry thinking that he would rid us of this scoundrel known as Schultz and every time I see him I cringe.

Nice work, RJ. You have lost my family's votes if you don't straighten up.
