It seems only right that the Eye reports on the behavior of one of KRQE’s own, Jonathan Chandler (aka Johnny on the Spot). According to his KRQE bio, Jonathan Chandler is an Assignment Manager and Reporter for KRQE NEWS 13 & KASA FOX 2 and is known as Johnny On The Spot. His duties include which stories will be reported on and which stories will be shown for those to watch. Needless to say, none of this weekend’s incident was ever reported. Our sources are very descriptive on the following accounts:
On May 21, 2011 at approximately 2:16 in the morning officers were dispatched to the 7000 block of Ranchwood Dr. NW in reference to shots being fired. Normally, this may be a routine call, but police were receiving numerous calls about the continuous shots that were being fired in their neighborhood. Officers were able to make contact with Jonathan Chandler. To say Chandler appeared intoxicated is an understatement. In fact, he appeared so highly intoxicated that he later had to be transported to the hospital for medical treatment. Jonathan Chandler admitted to police that he was in fact the one that was firing the shots because he was so upset over a recent breakup with his girlfriend. Officers on scene recovered approximately ten shotgun shells in his backyard as well as the shotgun that was used. Because of his high intoxication, criminal charges included negligent use of a firearm. It is highly dangerous for someone intoxicated to shoot any type of firearm because of the obvious potential for someone to get hurt. Mr. Chandler was reportedly transported to the hospital, forcing officers to issue a criminal summons for him. He was too intoxicated to be taken to jail. The Eye finds it interesting that nothing was broadcast about this incident, as it would have been the headline story had the roles been reversed had it had been an officer that was partaking in this criminal behavior.
Mr. Chandler’s Facebook profile picture shows that he is no stranger to firearms. Now it seems he will no longer be a stranger to the court system either.

f.y.i this "recent" breakup was reportedly 3 months ago...this information came directly from him. and yes he expected us to recognize him from the news, but in light of recent media cop bashing cops dont really watch the news anymore so no he was not recognized until he identified himself as being with KRQE.

If a civilian acting like a drunk lunatic baffoon fired off ten rounds in his backyard in a residential where all the neighbors called police... the news would report it. If a public official or public figure did the same thing, the news would not only report it -- but shove a microscope up that person's ass and go into every possible lurid detail. But Johnny Chandler, who IS actually a public figure because of his position both on the air and in management at krqe 13, is somehow exempt. Gross.

The officers issued a summons, it has to go through the courts where he will he sent a notice to appear in court to answer for the charges (plead guilty or not guilty). My guess is because of this website he will come and say "oh i need alcohol help, blah blah blah"
Johnny is well liked at KRQE. Paul Burt/Managing Editor along with other Staff Managers will have his back I'm sure. KRQE has always slept with BCSO so don't count on anything happening to "Johnny on the Spot". From the story I have heard.... It sounds as if APD fully intended on arresting this guy, but he was so sick from drinking, he had to be transported. I'm 99.9% sure that if we wait a couple weeks, we will see that a summons has been issued in this matter. The same as they would do for anyone in this situation.

Hey Eye, go to www.cabq.gov and go start researching the 1/4 sales tax for public safety that was approved by voters in 2003. It was supposed to be for equipment and training, but KOB reported last night 100% now goes for police and fire salary. APD and AFD have no money for police cars, equipment or training. If you go to council legislation and find the 2003 resolution that put this bill in front of the voters, there is an amendment that shows how the money would be spent over 5 years. Half would go to salary, but the other have (Millions) were marked for equipment and training. This is what the voters agreed to and now we find out it is a big lie. Audits done in 2010 show that all the money was going to salary. Yet on April 27 2011 an audit showed the Fire Department still saying they were spending this money on equipment.
So what gives? Is AFD being truthful about where their share of this money is being spent? City Councilor Lewis says 100% is going to salary, none to equipment. Someone is not being truthful, is is the command staff at AFD or Councilor Lewis? You be the judge.
And what about APD? The voters approved this for equipment, not salary. Is it time for a taxpayer revolt? Should taxpayers be demanding that this tax be repealed because what the citizens were told is not what Schultz and the city are doing? Is this our money, or their money? If the city makes a promise, shouldn't they be held accountable?
This story has legs. The citizens are fed up with being asked to approve new bonds and taxes, only to find out years later that they were lied to. I urge Councilor Lewis and other members of the city council to immediatley repeal this tax. This is the penalty you pay when you misuse public funds and ruin public trust.

Chief Schultz, as always on top of his spin game, stated that within 5 minutes of being told about another APD officers VIN plate being on the truck Chavez reported stolen, he had IA investigating.
Schultz has no control of APD. He spins and reacts. It is time the citizens get a chief who has their finger on the pulse of what is going on. All Schultz does is react to try to save his job. Schultz hired Levi Chavez. Schultz's subordinates went to Los Lunas and messed the crime scene. For months Schultz has been told there is something more going on here that involves more APD officers, but he ignored it. Ignored it until it hit the press today. APD needs a new chief who cares more about his police department and citizens, than he cares about his own political future.
Just how deep into APD does the Levi Chavez crime syndicate run? So long as Schultz is chief we will never know.
"At this point, obviously, on the face of it, this warrants an extremely thorough and comprehensive investigation," Schultz said. "I had Internal Affairs and internal criminal investigators working on this within five minutes of the time you told me about it. We will look at it and take any appropriate action that's necessary."
This is a quote from the Journal, June 4, 2011, headline article about how Ex APD officer Levi Chavez, stolen pickup truck had current APD detective Pete Dwyer's VIN plate on it. Once again Ray is spinning like a Maytag. The public needs to demand that Schultz resign and new chief, one who knows what is going on, be appointed. It is sad indeed, that this case, which has been going on for months, only gets Schultz's attention when he gets bad press. How embarrassing for the Chief of Police to not even know what is going on, he has to be told by a member of the press. Schultz is so out of touch that Albuquerque is suffering. Time for new leadership.

The way Schultz runs APD reminds me of the story, The Emperor Has No Clothes.
Ray thinks he is the smartest guy in the room and that he has his finger on the pulse of APD. His command staff knows he is out of touch with everything, but after he survived the $1,000,000 civil rights lawsuit with Costales, none of them want to put their careers on the line. They believe Schultz is untouchable. And why wouldn't they. In the same 30 days we elect a new mayor (who promised to clean house), the city pays out almost one million dollars as punishment for Ray's actions against an APD officer. Yet Mayor Berry doesn't fire Schultz!!! Instead Berry embraces Schultz (and others from Marty's days). Just what does it take for Berry to get rid of Schultz? Apparently a civil rights violation, a federal jury and one million in taxpayer money isn't enough. So no wonder Schultz's command staff keep their mouths shut, get their high three years and retire.
As long as Berry is mayor, Schultz will continue to damage APD. And we elected this guy for change, wow.
Schultz I hope at some point you get a subpoena to testify on thIs truck case. I hope you don't lie under oath like you did to the Journal.
Shultz lies in depositions he just doesn't think there is any evidence. Have you done any depositions lately shultz.
