These families have no place to go and White thinks it’s ok to treat these families like human trash and discard them. White is committing a crime against humanity. These are human beings who eat, sleep, breathe and bleed just like you and Eye.
Our current economic downfall has hurt everyone and has hurt the owner of this motel. The Eye spoke to some of the residents and they say the living conditions are not like the half million dollar home where White lives, but this motel is tolerable. One resident even said the owner has helped her and her child out by allowing her and her child to live there without paying him at times, or paying him very little. The owner would rather sacrifice income and continue placing a roof over the heads of these families, then to leave them homeless. The problem is; it creates a lack of finances available to keep the owner afloat and the property maintained.
How can anyone make money to improve what they have when they have very little or nothing at all? Why can’t the City step in to help these families and this property owner? Wasn’t Mayor Berry setting aside money ($500,000.00) to help out and prevent homelessness? Maybe Berry could spare some of that money and use it to save these families? These families need a “helping hand, not a hand throwing them out.”
Well; Albuquerque does have heroes; several good Samaritans are chipping in, like one small construction business owner who donated 15 gallons of paint and a $100.00 Lowes gift card. He gave this from his heart; he said the economy has been hard for him and he didn’t have much, but he gave what he could.
Other heroes are those that are going to donate their time and/or money, by giving and/or going to the 21 Motel, and work to bring the motel into compliance. The Eye is asking for your help, any donation would be appreciated; it doesn’t have to be much. All donations are being accepted at 1400 4th St. N.W. or call (505) 821-3775.
The community is coming together to prevent this cruelty from continuing. Anyone interested in helping can show up at 1400 4th St. N.W. at 8:00 A.M. tomorrow, Friday, May 20, 2011. You will be in great company! Showing their support for the community and their compassion for these families will be NFL players: RYAN COOK of the VIKINGS, and ERIC COOK of the REDSKINS, also, two UFC FIGHTERS; CLAY THE CARPENTER GUIDA AND DAMACIO THE ANGEL OF DEATH PAGE. Several of these stars have already made donations. The humane treatment of our fellow men, women and children are the traits of true leadership and of truly compassionate human beings.
These families are guilty of being poor; nothing more. A gift from your heart for these families is sincerely appreciated.

Hold on. Listen, I'm no fan of Darren White nor do I even support the bogus "public safety director" position but from the description of the motel's condition outlined in the Journal, its not totally unjustified.
And the "poor" economy excuse is just that. Its my understanding this is an Indian (from India) run motel. Ever stay in one of America's many, many Indian (from India) run motels? I have stayed in many across the country. Given I'm one of those that likes to pay budget rates on motels I've seen more than a few. At risk of stereotyping Indians (from India) who own motels: they suck, typically poorly maintained. I've walked out of more than a few and stayed in many that were marginal. The idea from the typical Indian (from India) motel owner is; not to repair, maintain or upgrade unless forced.
I would like to see an independent review.

Well I wouldnt go so far as to say that are all pigs. What do you have against pigs anyway. However you make a good point. There are non-profits like Joy Junction, Heathcare for the Homeless and they have connections.
Huges tax dollars fund those places and why not include them in the solution? Not In My Back Yard syndrom is rampant in our society so forget the well-to-do allowing out on their luck families next to them. However-
I would like to know the truth. Is this building below US/NM Code? Are those families at risk. Sure the East Indians are frugal and care less about even attempting 5Star status. But reality is many of these hotels have avoided improving their places, because things like ADA kick in etc.
My problem is the way this is going down. It is the way White evicts that bothers me. Not why. It is as if he enjoys doing this.

Does anyone have any idea what they are talking about???? Does anyone have any first hand knowledge of what happened to the families from that hotel?????? If you did you would know where they were placed and that no one threw them out into the street. People rip on the national inquirer and other tabloid for the absolute lack of truthful stories, the eye on Albuquerque is right there with the lowest forms of trash media. And of course the blog owner will be too chicken S%^T to post this like usual! Its sad to see this site be dedicated in a pure smear campaign of a few people in local government when there are federal judges that have ADMITTED to paying for their benches. Having interviewed my share of slumlords i find they are about as worthless and despicable as Darren White. I think the points made above about roach motels mascarading as permanent housing are legitimate regardless of who owns them. However I don't think we should throw out the baby with the bathwater. This hotel owner obviously has a heart... even if it's true he holds a low standard for suitable living conditions. Why on Earth would Darren give these people only THREE days to find another place to live? Doesn't Darren GET IT? THEY CAN'T! Thank you for all those who made the sacrifice to help these people today. Karma Baby. Karma.

Given the city red-tagged the motel suggests some level of substandard conditions. Roaches are one thing but added that were holes in the wall, soiled mattresses and mold (according to news reports). Hardly ADA issues. These conditions are symptoms of simple neglect and indifference.
Motels are not set up to be permanent living quarters but many along Central do just that. Unfortunate, yes, but reality.
I intend to assist as I always do. I give locally and am paying attention to see what ABQ agencies aid these people so that I can write out a check.

The EYE covers stories where there are cover-ups....Federal Judges who are admitting to their wrong doings, are not cover-ups...for a lack of a better term, they would be considered "reveals". So, slam the eye all you want, but unless you have something to back your claim about where these 10 families have been placed, then you are no better than what you are accussing the Eye of.

Seriously Mr. White; have you ever looked at yourself in photo ops? Please do something about your posture. As a women, of great taste, I find your demeanor and arrogance quite unappealing. What's not being reported is that when the City orders a building/home to be vacated, the City pays to relocate all individuals living there as long as they do not have a criminal background. The City also gives assistance and support in other areas also. I do not support all that Darren has done, however, the full story needs to be reported.
It's unfortunate that people and families were kicked to the curb but if you were passing through town or needed a place to stay for an extended period of time, would you want to stay in a place with blood stained, filthy mattresses? Roaches and bed bugs in your linens, floors or showers? The owner must provide at least a decent place, come on! The City is responsible for seeing that poor people have a decent place to stay.

Peaches would tear you up if she saw. Rumor has it she cannot face the public because of Darren's fall from grace. The high point of Darren's career was when he played in a band called "The Force" back in the early 80's; he's been going downhill ever since.
Did he play an instrument in that band? I don't know how he could; the guy has some of the smallest hands I've ever seen on a grown man.
