The Piercing Truth

This is right from the dictionary and seems to describe Albuquerque, Berry and Schultz. Fascism (f ash ,izem) noun An authoritarian right wing system of government and/or social organization. (in general use) extreme right wing, authoritarian, chauvinistic and/or intolerant views or practices. Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one group over another, national, ethnic, especially social strata or monetarily; a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach. Oversight or Disrespect?

APD held a graduation ceremony today for its latest recruitment class. The good news is that we just added 31 new officers to our police department. When these latest rookies learn what it's like to actually be in the field, we'll all be just a little bit safer.

The ceremony included almost 1,000 people and dignitaries with one conspicuous absence - Mayor Martin Chavez. One would think that if adding officers to the Albuquerque Police Department were one of the Almighty's priorities, that he would have damn well been there himself. Instead the mayor sent Chief Administrative Officer and ABQPAC alum Bruce Perlman (read it here) to the event.

Our Eyes at the event noticed a very interesting omission. During the pledge of allegiance while everyone stood either saluting the flag or covering their heart with their right hand, the Almighty Alcalde's representative did neither. Was it an oversight or a sign of disrespect? We don't really know. But we do know that a public official tapped to represent an elected official at an official function ought to know better. Mister Perlman would do well to remember that at any future events where he is representing the city, the mayor, and the people of Albuquerque.

Maybe Bruce is atheist, agnostic, anit-government or a Jehovah Witness. Too bad our former Chief of Public Safety, Nick, couldn't be there to talk about what an honorable career police work is, blah, blah, blah!

What was Bruce dressed in? His usual blue jeans, t-shirt and looking scrufy? He and the Gov could hang out.

I bet the mayor couldn't make it because he was spending time with his children(s).

It comes as no surprise to me that this occurred. Of course, he'll have some political excuse, and say he's sorry and expect all to be forgiven. But, then when theres no money involved what should we expect?

The good thing about it is we don't have to look at Smarty Marty's smug mug on the nightly news. So maybe we should thank him.

Wonder how he explains that to his family. Of course, if he has no young ones to discuss these things with, I guess its a mute point.

Also, I wonder how all the recruits felt about being ignored by their so called "leader"? Any one ask them that? I know what its like to have someone making major decissions for my interest, supposedly, and never have met the "big boss".

Now comes the time when they start their in-field training. Will they be able to deal with the new 5/8's time slot? Have they said good bye to their family and friends? Working the hours they work, then the court time? There will be litte on no time for sleeping, watching the kids at play having a social life or starting a family. They'll be to tired. I'm sure even the wives of them and the girl/boy friends will get sick and tired of the excuse, "Sorry dear, I'm just to tired". Get use to it boys and girls, cause it will happen.

Get ready people, someone is going to be seriously injured by this lack of sleep time, or maybe killed. It'll either be in another arrest attempt of someone treated for mental illness, or perhaps and illegal on drugs or drunks.

It WILL HAPPEN. When one is deprived of sleep time, their reaction time is slower, judgement elevated and its like being under the influence. But, then it doesn't seem to be important for those on the 5th or the 11th floor to want to deal with.

My good wishes to those who have been trained to do their best "to serve and protect". They're going to need all the help and LUCK they can get.

Pearlman was day dreaming of driving his city provided Tahoe enroute to his mistresses house who is also a city employee that works for him. I believe someone has some video of their encounters and they are waiting for the right moment to spring it on the the public.

But back to the Tahoe. Why is this bafoon telling departments to restrict the use of vehicles when there is absolutely no resason why he should have a take home vehicle ( or a vehicle to take to his mistresses house for a quickie during work hours) when he has absolutely no influence on an immediate, emergency situatation. He is a joke, especially when he requires city employees to call him "Doctor Pearlman" and insists that he writes the employee's checks. He is the model of the saying that "the world is full of educated derelicts". Pearlman is a pre-madonna with a little prick and should be fired immediately.

The guy walks around the 11th floor like he's some type of god! Figures he would have no respect for our country.

As a teacher, I supervised children reciting the pledge everyday for 25 years. Most cannot even tell you what the words mean. A surprising number cannot even recite it alone and without help.

It is for only a small number of people, an actual pledge of "allegiance".

At some point, you have to concede that you cannot MAKE people feel the way you want them to; even about something as important as love of country.

I satisfied myself by simply dis-allowing any kind of disrespectful behavior during the pledge.

I would have to have seen Perlman's conduct to know if there was disrespect, overt or tacit.

Interesting topic, though.

Last comment; "You'll get over it" No, we won't asshole. This is the same kind of liberal, democrat disprespect we have come to know from people like Barrack Obama. Does the Pledge of alligence with the words "under God" turn you off sir? Next time you don't respect OUR anthem, maybe someone ought to take you by the hand and teach you how to respect this government and our flag.
Just another peter-principaled wimp.
Ps. I think even Marty would have had the presense of mind to put his hand over his heart.
Dumbass.

It's buffoon, prima-donna, and presence you idiots. You guys were sorry supervisors and cops and now you are sorry has-beens hanging out with disgruntled lawyers with political agendas.....you should get over it, then try getting a life and checking the mirror.

"you'll get over it"

what a profound comment! You must be one of Marty's dummy at will buddies, making close to $100,000 a year. Can't say anything else because there's no way to defend what Perlman did at that ceremony (by the way it's on tape). Richard got time in prison for taking down a non-american flag. What is wrong with this city?

And Marty needing a day off? Find another day. He doesn't make it to most of the APD or AFD graduations. He sends one of his stupid buds, most of them can't talk or they refer to the fire chief as the police chief and the firefighters as police officers, Nick. If Marty does come, he's first on the agenda and then always uses the excuse to leave so that he can spend time with his children. Right!

And Hoffman Town Church, what's up with that? Whatever happen to the separation of church and state? Maybe that's why Perlman didn't salute. Isn't he Jewish? Next time I think we should have it at the Mormon Temple. Oh, that's right the city couldn't they don't let non-Mormons in.

If you can't write a prescription and you still require people to address you as "doctor", then you are quite an egomaniac. I would refuse to call him doctor and would only address him by his official title. As far as the mayor not attending the police graduation, this is par for the course for him---he has only attended about 2 or 3 of the last 12 graduations and when he does attend he never stays to shake their hands when the recive thier badges. He always sneaks out before then.

No, I don't think she knows she can get her uniform pressed, and she doesn't know how to speak. Great pick on someone to represent APD on TV! She sounds horrible and stumbles over her words, APD looks like they are a bunch of dummies thanks to her speaking abilities, and YES, before you all freak out and say oh, she doesn't speak for us, YES SHE DOES, they put her on TV and she's representing APD.

And about the 5/8's, not only is APD working 5/8's now, well, some are, but they are also required to work weekends to get 1100 officers for the stupid mayor and they will be making tons of money getting sign on bonuses and down payments for homes, when everyone else on the department gets NO incentive for being there for 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 years, but are having to also give up their weekends. NICE

Come on, is that what we the people have come to? I think all political parties have their own share of bad apples; let's face it the problem with organized political parties is career politicians who are owned by everyone. In my opion the best political candidate is one that has not built a life/career on politics. Am I the only one who sees a big problem with the tax payers paying elected officials salaries better than a fulltime grunt like you and I? I do not think our founding fathers invisioned it this way, instead they wanted elected officials to actually represent their constituants wishes. When was the last time any politician before voting asked the votoers/tax payers what they wanted?? Instead we have politicians telling us what we want....
So for the sake of being fair I offer the republicans the following (partial) list to show that neither party represents true mainstream America's interest or morality:

President John Kennedy had a known affair with actress Jayne Mansfield, and was ignored by the popular media.

President John Kennedy had a known affair with actress Marilyn Monroe, and was ignored by the popular media.

Bill Clinton raped Paula Jones.

Bill Clinton got blown by Monica Lewinsky.

Gavin Newsome, Mayor of San Fransisco had an affair with his best friend's wife, while Newsome was separated from his.

Sen. Daniel Inouye. The 82-year-old Hawaii Democrat was accused in the 1990s by numerous women of sexual harassment. Democrats cast doubt on the allegations and the Senate Ethics Committee dropped its investigation.

Former Rep. Gus Savage. The Illinois Democrat was accused of fondling a Peace Corps volunteer in 1989 while on a trip to Africa. The House Ethics Committee decided against disciplinary action in 1990

Rep. Barney Frank. The outspoken Massachusetts Democrat hired a male prostitute who ran a prostitution service from Frank’s residence in the 1980s. Only two Democrats in the House of Representatives voted to censure him in 1990.

Former Sen. Brock Adams. The late Washington Democrat was forced to stop campaigning after numerous accusations of drugging, assault and rape, the first surfacing in 1988.

Former Rep. Fred Richmond. This New York Democrat was arrested in 1978 for soliciting sex from a 16-year-old. He remained in Congress and won re-election—before eventually resigning in 1982 after pleading guilty to tax evasion and drug possession.

Former Rep. John Young. The late Texas Democrat increased the salary of a staffer after she gave in to his sexual advances. The congressman won re-election in 1976but lost two years later.

Former Rep. Wayne Hays. The late Ohio Democrat hired an unqualified secretary reportedly for sexual acts. Although he resigned from Congress, the Democratic House leadership stalled in removing him from the Administration Committee in 1976.

Former Rep. Gerry Studds. He was censured for sexual relationship with underage male page in 1983. Massachusetts voters returned him to office for six more terms.

Former Rep. Mel Reynolds. The Illinois Democrat was convicted of 12 counts of sexual assault with a 16-year-old. President Bill Clinton pardoned him before leaving office.

Sen. Teddy Kennedy. The liberal Massachusetts senator testified in defense of nephew accused of rape, invoking his family history to win over the jury in 1991.

On July 14, 1983 the House Ethics Committee concluded that Rep. Dan Crane (R-Ill.) and Rep. Gerry Studds (D-Mass.) had engaged in sexual relationships with minors, specifically 17-year-old congressional pages. In Crane's case, it was a 1980 relationship with a female page and in Studds's case, it was a 1973 relationship with a male page. Both representatives admitted to the charges and the committee recommended reprimand for the two.

Congressman Mel Reynolds, the Democrat convicted of 12 charges, including sex with 16-year-old Beverly Heard and asking her to take pornographic photographs of a 15-year old, was indicted on August 21, 1994. ABC, the current scourge of congressional teen-sex scandals, reported nothing – until Reynolds was convicted a year later, on August 23, 1995. In fact, on May 13, 1994, ABC featured Reynolds in a "Person of the Week" speaking out in favor of two Chicago ladies fighting child molesters
You posted a list of bad apple republicans but here is a list of bad democrates:

Can anyone explain why APD has a PIO position paid at the tax payers expense when response times to priority 1 calls are over 8 minutes (as mentioned on the news)? Why cannot an exempt position such as Captain or Deputy Chief handle that responsibility instead of taking a certified position out of patrol services?
I have noticed that APD and also Rio Rancho have certified officers as PIO but yet they are screaming that they do not have enough positions or officers on the street. Whats wrong with this picture??? Who is to blame for it and why has not anyone (our elected officials) put an end to it? What other waste of tax payers money is occurring within the public safety arena? I think the powers to be within public safety should do a full disclosure and justification to the city council and tax payers on and for every position before a budget or funding is approved. And prior to approval the unions should have review authority to make sure that no position is violation of the contract nor crating positions outside of the collective bargaining agreement.

At least the new PIO never shot her dogs in a violent outburst then have the Lt. and Sgt. cover it up in an attempt to keep the public from finding out. Im sure the animal friendly administration, PETA, and the public are going to want some answers when this finally comes out. Leave the PIO alone and get back in your glass house

Most large professional depts I have seen in other states use Lt's, Capt's or Commander's for the PIO positions. Why does APD use an officer who could be taking calls for service?

I think I even saw a high ranking fire commander doing AFD's PIO job. It just seems that would be the right thing to do.

I also don't care for APD's new PIO. I like the male guy and the the last couple of women, but this new one does not fit the part.

Just a women's perspective.....
