Eye Poll: Marks

Eye readers decisively chose incumbent PRC Commissioner Jason Marks in last week's unscientific Eye Poll (view it here). It's always hard to unseat an incumbent because name ID is generally the major factor. If Commissioner Cummins hadn't had his recent plumbing problems, we'd bet that this poll would have tilted in his favor.

There were relatively few participants with only 135 votes. That's unfortunate because the Public Regulatory Commission oversees everything from insurance to utility rates. They have more impact on your daily life than any other board or commission in the state.

The national election is down to the final week... What better way to drive you absolutely crazy than to ask for the 5,024,678th time who your going to vote for just one week from now? Yep, its a Presidential poll, but this time we're adding a companion poll. Don't forget to vote (twice)!

Cummin's water thing was bad but his vote to spend $44 million on new luxury offices for the County is why I won't vote for him. Doesn't really seem like much of a watchdog for anything.

How about the fire department again. what kind of fool goes into a walgreens and buys booze on duty in uniform?? or rumor has it that one of the upper brass deputy chiefs is being paid 30grand to retire!! I wonder if the the IRS or the State of NM is aware of this!

Whether you are an R or a D, you should support Jason Marks. He is not a typical politician, he doesn't kiss babies and cut ribbons. He is a guy who gets excited when talking about the nuances of his job. He has thrusted himself into all the regulatory issues he deals with, becoming one of the most knowlegable persons in the state when it comes to the nominally "complicated" issues the PRC handles. He isn't unnecessarily tough on PNM and Qwest, but he makes sure they dpn't screw us over. And so, if you are a bleeding heart liberal or far, far right, Jason Marks is the best candidate for you because he gives a damn about consumers (Rs and Ds).

There are more than two candidates running for president...could have at least offered an 'other' option.
