The Piercing Truth

This is right from the dictionary and seems to describe Albuquerque, Berry and Schultz. Fascism (f ash ,izem) noun An authoritarian right wing system of government and/or social organization. (in general use) extreme right wing, authoritarian, chauvinistic and/or intolerant views or practices. Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one group over another, national, ethnic, especially social strata or monetarily; a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach. Time for Governor to Stop Playing Liberal Games

The Eye takes a different view from Gov. Martinez on how to approach the illegal alien driver’s license issue. Driving is a privileged granted by the State of New Mexico and not a “God given right” or a “Constitutional right.” Even if it was a “Constitutional right,” these people are illegal aliens; therefore, they are not entitled to a “Constitutional right.” The Governor should administratively revoke all illegal alien drivers’ licenses. If the illegal alien wants to fight this issue, they would have to file an appeal like the rest of us do legally.

In a Reuter story (read it here), Judge Sarah Singleton in Santa-Fe, “issued a temporary restraining order blocking the program, arguing in a brief ruling that ‘irreparable injury’ would occur from "constitutional deprivations to the applicants." If illegal aliens have these rights that Singleton claims, none of this would be an issue and every state in the United States would issues licenses to everyone.

The Governor needs to put her foot down and cut the “nicy-nicy” baloney!

Most recently, several churches, including the Catholic Church, have chimed in and given their two cents in favor of illegal aliens having driver’s licenses. Whatever happened to the “Separation of Church and State?” Did all these Churches take a poll to see if the parishioners’ approved of them speaking on their behalf as a communal body? Martinez won the election, and part of her promise was to stop the illegal aliens from obtaining licenses in New Mexico. One last thought, before any church even thinks about looking in Martinez’s closet; they better look in their own closet and clean it first.

If all the liberals are “that” concerned, here is an alternate idea, the State should issue “Illegal Alien Driver’s Licenses.” This would remove the cloak for the crooks. The Illegal Alien Driver’s Licenses would clearly state the person in possession of the license is an illegal alien. Any law enforcement, government agency, or any other party dealing with the alien would know immediately that the person is an illegal alien.

The license would be clearly marked and state, “Illegal Alien” and state the person who presented this information passed a New Mexico driving test. The license would clearly state, “DO NOT RELY ON THE INFROMATION ON THIS CARD!” The reverse side of the card would state, “Confirm subjects’ information independently.” The license would not resemble the New Mexico standard license in any formative manner.

Let the Governor do the job she was hired to do. If you don’t like it; move or run for office and spew your vial after you’re elected.

The finest ship ever made will sink if it becomes overloaded. There are imigration laws for a reason. The economy of The United States can not sustain millions of illegal aliens, not to mention security issues. Politicians have their own agenda, drivers license equal voter registration. Call it like it is. The Cathloic Church, illegal aliens equal membership. Again call it like it is. Lets stop pretending about the issue. Illegal means illegal. The United States welcomes anyone who comes to the Country the right way. The American People will go out of their way to help legal aliens and make them feel welcome. This is not a race issue,so don't try to make it one. That is how the supporters of illegal aliens try to spin the issue and attempt to get everyone to drink their coolaid.I will not debate anonymous comments.

Sgt. Heh I still think you'd be a shoo-in for Mayor. You really should consider it! Seriously.

Sgt. Heh, you really do seem to speak to the issues without the political double-speak.

This country has become quite good at re-naming things, issues, people, whatever, for political ends. I don't think I've ever heard the pros of issuing driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. For once I would just love to hear politicians lay it all out, in simple english, what we are dealing with. All we do is polarize people into two emotional factions without giving any middle ground.

If we remove the hate and fear from this argument, take it down to facts. Accept that we have a mess on our hands that involves living breathing humans, not all of which are here to just rob, steal, murder, like some suggest, and logically figure out a solution. Quit just yelling at each other. I for one am really tired of it. We also need to accept that people who enter any country illegally are illegal immigrants, just by calling them undocumented doesn't make any difference.

It's an interesting idea about the Catholic Church, I hadn't ever thought of it that way.

I'd like to say Paul Heh for mayor but, politics eats "good guys" alive. Enjoy your retirement. Should you decide to ever run for some office however, you've got a supporter!

Even if it was a “Constitutional right,” these people are illegal aliens; therefore, they are not entitled to a “Constitutional right.”

"nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty or property without due process of law"

That's good old Amendment 14 of the Constitution.

Note that it says "person", it does not say "citizen". It forbids depriving any person of liberty withoutdue process, not merely any citizen. This clearly gives non-citizens some constitutional rights.

I haven't read the ruling so I don't know if this was what the court relied upon, but it's possible. My recollection is that courts have held that a driver's license involves a liberty interest, and that the State therefor can't revoke a license without giving the holder some due process.

Politics are politics, and after all Martinez is a politician. In the end politicians are just professional liars, so what do you expect there stealth?

The Eye needs to read and understand the definition of "facism" it has posted at the begging of its blog. The proposal for "illegal alien drivers licenses" sure does smack of facism and fits the definition, especially when you want the Governor to act unilaterally and just revoke the licenses already issued under state law. Immigration reform on the Federal level is what is needed.

Why issue a legal license to an illegal?

The focus to resolve this issue needs to be on the fact that providing driver licences to illegal aliens (non-citizens) is putting the citizens of New Mexico at risk. This ridiculous practice has made New Mexico a magnet for black market dealers of forged documents (of all ethnicities) and has created an avenue to hide the identies of foreign nationals coming to New Mexico to deal drugs and run guns. If you have a state representative or senator that will not vote to repeal this law, they must be voted out of office! Support the legitimate mandate to enforce public safety needs for the legal citizens of this state!
