The Eye received this letter from Marty Gilmore, a retired APD Captain, and from all the emails we receive, it seems Gilmore is right on target when it comes to many of the retired senior coppers.
I retired after twenty-five of service as an Albuquerque Police Department Captain/Commander. During my tenure I served as Commander of the Southeast and Foothills Area Commands, the Traffic Division, the Crime Lab, Records/ID and Evidence. I was also given responsibility to command the first accreditations process and form the Inspections Unit.
I was happy to see Ray Schultz be given the opportunity to be Chief under Mayor Chavez as he had worked for me in the Crime lab and did a great job. As time passed word kept getting back to me that Ray was not the same person he was before he took the position of Deputy Chief in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was becoming disconnected from the officers and discipline was becoming a major issue. Officers were becoming reluctant to do their job for fear of discipline should they make an honest mistake.
I was very surprised to see the current mayor retain Chief Schultz after being told Chief Schultz and his command staffs were pushing hard for the re-election of Mayor Chavez. The function of loyalty is to the community first and then to the chain of command. To avoid corruption there can be no other approach.
Never did I believe the possibility of a Justice Department investigation possible due to the lack of leadership. Chief Schultz said he is the man to clean up APD's problems. The thought that comes to mind is who was in charge when the mess was created? Also, why is the Journal so quick to defend the Chief and say he is the right man to correct the problems existing at APD when the Journal has been very critical of the APD for the past number of years?
The APD at one time had a reputation of being one of the best local law enforcement agencies in the nation. I believe it can regain that standing through a good work ethic, getting back to the basics of police work, good discipline and new leadership.
David M. Gilmore Retired APD Captain
The laments never stop coming; yet, Albuquerque’s Mayor Berry pretends he is deaf and dumb. The Eye is at the point of resigned cynicism and realizes Berry is never going to correct the wrong doings but force the rest of us to live and deal with his bad decisions. Mayor Berry has become pathetic. Is there any hope?...
The Piercing Truth
This is right from the dictionary and seems to describe Albuquerque, Berry and Schultz. Fascism (f ash ,izem) noun An authoritarian right wing system of government and/or social organization. (in general use) extreme right wing, authoritarian, chauvinistic and/or intolerant views or practices. Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one group over another, national, ethnic, especially social strata or monetarily; a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach. Compliments of one of our Eyes

Hello Captain. Anyone noticE that since TJ moved to the 5th floors the journal has put out two editorials where they love Schultz. I guess TJ has a little bit of stroke.
I worked for Marty for many years and know that he is the most honest person I know. He has written what everyone else is thinking but are afraid to verbalize. As a rehire, I plan to leave the APD once again in the near future. This time I don't want to come back. However, I will write the truth about this vindictive, lying Chief. Thank you Marty for doing the right thing.
Thank you captain. My opinion follows. Captain you are right about Schultz and the commannd staff pushing for Marty durning the election, so why did Berry appoint Schultz as chief? Here is the answer Darren White. Never forget that White and Schultz are best friends and Berry wanted Whites support for mayor, which he got at the 11th hour. Deal, White public safety director Schultz remain chief not hard to figure out. Remember White and Schultz comspired together against Costalas. Dont think for a minute that White isn't still pulling Berry's strings. You are right Captain A.P.D. has lost its greatness. Their are three people to blame : Berry, Schultz , and White. I can not stress enough that the rank and file officers of A.P.D. are still great and serve with honor. You are right the rank and file officers are afraid to work because they are afraid of harsh disipline if they make an honest mistake. Captain there was a supervisor meeting a few months ago and all White AND Schultz did was blame everything wrong on the supervisors and preach how they were going to impose harsh disipline. I sat in that meeting with my hand up for the entire meeting . At times my hand was the only one up. Schultz and White looked right through me and refused to call on me. Someone had to say the truth, but Schultz and White were going to make sure it never was heard at that meeting. The problem with A.P.D. were standing right up in front, White and Schultz. Made me sick to hear White repeat over and over how he loved A.P.D. and how integrity was everything to him. I will defend the rank and file officers by what ever means necessary. There Are None Better ! I will not answer anonymous posts. If anyone wants to debate the issue in a public forum I will be happy to do so.
So stroke this, TJ.
There is no hope. So many credible folks are trying to open One Term Berry's eyes, but he is not going to budge, afraid of getting on Schultz' bad side. Berry is a giggly little girl and the only change will be made when he gets thrown out on his can next election.
The journal is a disgusting piece of crap and hopefully will go out of business like the Tribune. Everyone should cancel their subscriptions. If you can't report truthful information you become useless to the public. Please, they get thousands to print those worthless pictures of dui and property crime people. No one and I repeat no one even looks at that page. The criminals don't have their feeling hurt for being in the paper. Schultz is a scumbag and TJ is helping to restore his image. It's not working! Just like POS Darren had connections to worthless channel 13 and that's why they never reported any thing negative about him. DISGUSTING!
Lack of leadership seems to abound at all levels of our government, all the while the citizenry getting screwed.
I voted for Berry because he said he would fire Schultz. Now look. Are there even any potential leaders in the wings to take this city out of the tank?
Thats great that retired senior cops used to like Schultz. Who freakin cares. How about the seasoned cops who answer calls for service or the seasoned Detectives and tactical officers who get called out 24 hours a day. These folks are the foot soldiers who are miserable under the leadership of the 5th floor and 11th floor. The commanders and chiefs sit in their offices while cops get the hatred on the streets. Why hasnt the chief or the commanders or APOA had a press conference saying they support the officers of the Albuquerque Police department.
I saw the news the other day and the FOP president Bob Martinez was outspoken and stepped up to the plate saying he supports APD. Way to go FOP.
APD is not Ray Schultz, its the men and women who work day in and day out fighting crime. Chiefs and Mayors come and go.
Step up Chief and APOA and say SOMETHING
Hey eye, have you seen the you tube videos of shawn Bryan? Do you care to comment?
To Above Post: 3:15 pm: Its only safe for retired to post and sign their names. Its agaisnt the SOP to speak out against APD.
Captain Gilmore was great to work for. He was an Officer that never forgot where he came from. Not like the fake ass Captains I mean Commanders in place now. All they are interested in is how they can become a DCOP or Chief. They have promoted the last few because of dirty little deeds done in the dark and to officers that had the guts to stand up to the 5th floor. Most of them have never really worked the field and went inside as soon as they could to study on duty time. The only decent Commander now is Mike Geier. Now there is a guy that would make a good Chief of Police. It was nice to hear from you Captain Gilmore, your truth is eye opening and on target.
I also worked for Captain Gilmore and found him to be a cops cop. He may have handed out needed discipline but he never held a grudge. It was common to find him answering calls, providing 82 and you could hear him going 54 on all three shifts. Captain Gilmore always had his finger on the pulse of the SE Area command. He protected his officers when they were right even if it meant taking BS from the 5th floor. This was one captain who would not issue an order that he himself would not carry out. We need a department with commanding offiers and sgts.like him. For me it was an pleasure to have worked for Captain Gilmore. His letter is dead on.
Bryan's videos are interesting. He said that what, a black escalade was seen leaving his house in Tanoan? Did they get video of it from the entrance and exit cameras???
If Shawn lives in Tanoan why hasn't he put up the money for decoding the text messages to help his friend Brad? Seems like he should be able to afford it. Based on all the videos I would have been more careful how I picked my friends (Darren, etc). There's a saying, when you lay ............. You feel in the blanks.
Seems very weird. Anybody know if all of Bryan's "buddies" were getting hooked-up with cars from his place?
Geier? WTF he the biggest con ever. I guess being a good commander is talking bs to the troops and reporting different information to the 5th floor. He is exactly like Schultz thinks of himself and his buddies. Talks shit behind your back and nice to your face.
Not to feed the boneheaded comments......BUT the Bryans do NOT live in tanoan, and the video DOES NOT say that.
The Bryans have never owned a black escalade there's is white and that is the point that Buckner said a black escalade was the reason he started the whole mess and they have NEVER owned a black escalade.
Could a Denali be confused with an Escalade?
It could to a complete dumbass....
Maybe they arent blowing off Bryan's videos, trying to confirm the information and dropping a few hints? In reality, very few people know "the truth" and I think that would be Brad, Bryan, and White. You can say, post anything you want but only they actually know the truth.
We have Ron Olivas conducing contract issues for the APOA, are you serious?
Regardless of the outcome Olivas rolled to avoid prosecution and that is the bottom line.
"Regardless of the outcome Olivas rolled to avoid prosecution and that is the bottom line"
No question about that.
