The Piercing Truth

This is right from the dictionary and seems to describe Albuquerque, Berry and Schultz. Fascism (f ash ,izem) noun An authoritarian right wing system of government and/or social organization. (in general use) extreme right wing, authoritarian, chauvinistic and/or intolerant views or practices. Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one group over another, national, ethnic, especially social strata or monetarily; a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach. What They Knew

Shortly after the Journal's Wednesday story "Wanna Be Cop" (ABQ Journal - Subscription) hit the stands our Eyes started weighing in. The first comment was "there's no @#%@!# way that they didn't know."

At issue is reserve officer and APD civilian employee David Young. Young is a civilian working in APD's Special Investigations Unit who works on radios and "wires." The unit has also been using him as a detective in undercover operations and paying him overtime for police work through his civilian paycheck.
He has arrested 18 people since January 2008.

He has written criminal complaints testifying under "the penalty of perjury" that he is a detective with the Albuquerque Police Department.

One of his specialties: working as an undercover "john" busting prostitutes.

But Young isn't a certified law enforcement officer in the state of New Mexico.
Sure Young was a reserve officer, but he can't be the primary arresting officer because he's not state certified.
[R]eserve officers can't make arrests, book someone into jail or write a criminal complaint and prosecute cases — all of which Young has done, according to Metropolitan Court records.
In the course of his "duties" as a "detective" over at SID, Young testified under oath that he was an APD detective. He wasn't. As a result, Young could be subject to multiple charges of perjury.

But Young isn't the only officer or officers who might be under scrutiny for fibbing. Young's sergeant and lieutenant are on the hook too. Both men had to sign off on Young's civilian timesheet stating that the hours and the overtime worked were "true and accurate." Young's job description didn't include police work and his status as a reserve officer actually precluded him from getting paid for any police work.

As a result, every timesheet approved by Young's supervisors were not true and nowhere near accurate and both men had to have known it because David Young's daytime job was fixing their radios.

It's a bit frightening to think that the supervisors over in the SID don't know state law well enough to know that a reserve officer can't work alone and that signing off on documents where you attest to the fact that someone is doing one thing when they're really doing something else is fraud.

Our Eyes further contend that knowledge of Young's activities went straight to the top. Except for the normal hind quarter pucker that comes from embarrassing stories breaking in the press, no one on The 5th Floor was surprised by the news.

So, you ask... How did the Journal's T.J. Wilham get his mitts on this juicy little screw-up? Like a lot of leaks to the press, an officer had an axe to grind. In this case, it was a rehire officer with a drinking problem and a nasty habit of beating his girlfriend.

The department had put the rehired officer on administrative leave pending the results of an internal investigation. The officer in question probably didn't like mucking out Marty's kennels and tried to use the Wilham story as leverage and perhaps a little payback. Now that the story's out, the leverage is gone and our Eyes tell us that the leaker will soon follow.

All of this has certainly ruined The 5th Floor's day. They're currently in damage control mode (which they typically do very badly) where they deny knowing anything and then promise to launch an "independent" investigation.
Police Chief Ray Schultz said this week he was not aware Young was making overtime as a police officer until contacted by the Journal.

When Schultz was presented with documentation showing how much money Young had made, he ordered that Young not be allowed to wear a gun and he not be eligible for overtime. Schultz also opened an investigation.
According to our Eyes, the "independent" investigator is a close friend of Deputy Chief Kevin McCabe - which makes him not independent in the least. You can bet that the "investigation" will be about as complete as the department's "investigation" into the evidence room scandal 4 years ago.

Since it's an election year, expect someone to be fired (David Young unless we miss our guess) followed by a declaration that the problem has been fixed and will never happen again. After all, Marty can't let his 5th Floor mess stick to him. He'd throw his own mother under the bus if it'd get him re-elected.

What we know is that defense attorneys all over the city are busy checking their client's files to find out if Reserve Officer David Young was the arresting officer. What they know is that if he is, there will be a whole bunch of cases dismissed. Meanwhile, The 5th Floor will be trying to hide what they knew in order to protect you know who.

I guess a certain Lt. can kiss off the pair of stars he was hoping to pin on one of these days.
I like a lot of the folks over there in SID, but the good 'ol boys network is institutionalized over there. If you are in with the command staff, you are in. If you are not one of the chosen, well . . .
Personally, I think it is time to clean house over there. Put in a command staff of straight shooters and give them liberty to kick the problem people back out to the field (no questions asked).
Just my humble opinion.

I am glad this came to light David Young was arrogant with his “superior SID importance” around sworn field officers. I seen this several times while out in the field.
I bet they counted him as a real officer too, what was his call sign 813 or something? He had his own call sign too!!!... Soooo glad soo glad. You will not be missed Mr. Fat man.

Good job Journal in outting this story. Add this to Marty's history of corruption. Schultz must go, he never has had any idea what is going on at APD. If we continue to re elect Marty this is the type of police department we will have, full of corruption, drinking, womanizing and scandal.

Vote Marty OUT! and send Schultz with him!

Who is the officer in trouble for domestic violence? If he/she was arrested this is public record and the public deserves to know.

Just how ingrained is domestic violence and alcoholism at APD?

Captain Joe Hudson and LT Rob Smith both oversee the SID Unit and should've known better!

Why on earth did they sign those time sheets. Every supervisor worth his salt knows that is illegal!

However, These two guys are best friends with Deputy Chief McCabe and Chief Schultz, do you really think anything will happen to them.

It's going to be a bogus investigation full of cover ups just like the APD Evidence
room was! They will sweep this all under the carpet as usual.

The good old boy system will take care of Capt Hudson and LT Smith!

Did the Police Union pay for Youngs attorney????? D'Mato works for the Police Union. Remember Ex-Union Presdent Ron Olivas now works in SID. This could get real interesting to see how they try to cover it up with the Union's help.

As our State's corruption in government becomes more exposed, we become more and more aware of who the real criminals are. Unfortunately, they are part of the group who promise to "keep us safe". This surely is a pitty!

The last time there was a scandal with the radio room Mayor Chavez fired Deputy Chief Silva. Lets see if he fires Deputy Chief McCabe. McCabe and Commander Hudson go on vacation together and are as thick as thieves. McCabe will take care of Hudson and Smith. I however, don't this Smith will be promoted to commander now, Schultz would be crazy to do that. But, stranger things have happened at APD. McCabe and Hudson can now be terminated for this injustice, as Commander Hudson is no longer protected by the Union. However, these two are part of that CLICK and will be taken care of.

Also, don't forget LT Chris Bakas, he also works in SID as the Narc LT and also knew what was going on, but he is the son of the infamous Nick Bakas and will also be protected and maybe even promoted dispite this mess.

I see a major cover up unless the Mayor steps in!!!!

Well, why wouldn't David Young have gone through the Police Academy. Even if he was super, duper confidential and kept secret, then there would have been even more of a need to have sent him through training at the Academy. Does David Young have at least 60 credit hours at the University level? Well, maybe David Young had a criminal history/record and couldn't get into the entrance to undergo the Academy. The newspaper didn't mention David Young's birthdate. It is difficult to guess in looking at the two pages under court records for David Young's located in New Mexico (not just Albuquerque). There is one case for a David Young involving DWI and driving under influence of drugs/alochol. Does anybody know if this is the same David Young? There are several different, Young's with first name David. Just wondering....

Anonymous said...

the rehire who had the domestic violence charge is jeff arbogast, the incident happened in california

Anonymous said...

There are Citizen's Arrests when the courts always circle "Officer" knowing that the complaint is private. Also, David Young could have gotten "grandfathered in" before rules and policies changed. There is some policy that does allow and permit Officers to not have formal training. Just depends on how long David Young had initially joined at what those rules read at the time. There is also outdated laws on the books at the State level that could have allowed "David Young" to be grandfathered in. Does anybody know if the horse and buggy law is still on the books at the State level- for people not to drive their horse and buggy in a certain way.... etc.....

My message is likely to get lost in the above clutter, since it is a simple one, but it is worth making. People should collectively work to:

VOTE MARTIN CHAVEZ OUT OF OFFICE.

Not as easy as it is simple, this approach will solve most of the problems mentioned here. Without the votes, Chavez does not have the power. Simply put, voting out Martin Chavez, his entorage, and his selections for office would make this political soup known as Albuquerque politics a little easier to manage especially considering the current alternaitves in the mayoral race.

Commander Joe Hudson should be fired. He knew what was going on was illegal and he allowed it to happen. For that, he should be fired! He has always been a worthless coward as an officer, and supervisor. The only reason he was promoted was because of DC Kevin McCabe.

The real question is will Hudson's best friend, Kevin McCabe who is also the Deputy Chief of that division, punish transfer or fire his best friend. Also, where was McCabe when this was all happening?

What these APD Supervisors did was very illegal!!! Will they get away with it because they are close friends with Chief Schultz and Deputy Chief McCabe!

The Comdr and Lt must fess up for what they have done and take the discipline that comes with it. It's their ship.

Anybody else would have already been placed on leave by Chief Schultz. Why not these supervisors???????

Here you had Capt Callaway Clean up the mess at SID years ago.

Next, you transfer in Super Nerd Joe Hudson to take Callaway's place. Super Nerd really wants to fit in with the good old boys so, he lets them do what they want so they will accept him even though he knows it's wrong. How do I know, I was there! Hudson just wants to be liked and be one of the boys!

This is the guy you have running SID. How stupid can you get! What an idiot, did Capt Hudson really think he was not going to get caught. Oh,,, I forgot, DC MCcabe is his best friend and will cover it up for him.

What's more frightening is that they knew the state law and did what they did anyway.

If responsibility rests with supervisors, start at the top. Ray-ray's lack of leadership is part of the problem. The whole "get tough on Sergeants" scheme is ridiculous when the Chief isn't held to a higher standard. Ray, Marty, this song is for you: Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na, hey hey hey, GOOOODDDDDBYE!!!

Just to set the record straight and make sure we are all on the same page. I know Lt Chris Bakas and he was not a party to this fiasco.

Furthermore, Chris knows better than to violate state law and allow individuals to submit fraudulent overtime or purport to be someone they are not. He is very diligent in his duties as a supervisor and is extremely conscientious of those that he supervises. He is also a stickler for following Department Policies and procedures.

There is a common denominator with Chief Shultz, DC Mckabe, Captain Hudson, Lt Smith, and Wannabe Cop Dave Young. What is it folks?

All I know is you can not blame the problems on the Mayor. His job is now to fire all of them. Lets see what he does. Chief Shultz just may cost the election for Marty.

Hey Joe Hudson, aint karma a bitch. You treat everyone like crap thinking you're better and everyone knows you only got to be a Commander and at SID because you're the DCOP's buddy. We all know you won't get any discipline, why, becuase you are his buddy. That is why we need a change, corruption has set in. I can't stop laughing at you Hudson you and your butter face, better close that mouth before you catch a fly.

Aren't you an at will employee? You need to be fired and indicted and if needed Mccabe can retire. Do the city some good to get of the good ol boy system.

Anonymous said...

Hudson and Smith have to be fired and transferred. Let's not though and we all can submitt false overtime slips, get $12,000 ahead and not receive any discipline. Lets set a pattern. This is gonna cost the city lots of money in civil action. Chief if you have a set of bal*& you have to put friendhsip aside and do whats best for the department although you haven't yet so why should we expect you would now.

Anonymous said...

So when does Chief Schultz plan to put these supervisors on admin leave? Muchless, transfer them out of that division! What are you waiting for Chief! Remember, you should not let your close friendship with these supervisors influence you decision...... Had they not been your friends, they would have been moved on day one!

Why is that Comdr, Hudson still in charge? He should have been the first to be placed on leave. What about DC McCabe, he is the overall supervisor in charge of SID. Where is he? Do you not think these are serious charges against your dept?

You need to get the ball rolling before this major incident blowns up in your face and makes APD, as well as City Hall look like they are covering this up!

Too late chief, its already blown up in your face. Don't try to hide from it by ordering DC Callaway to do all the explaining and back pedaling

Is Denali that stupid by stating "those people are already convicted" Well, they were by a person who said he was a cop, but was not! Do you really think those charges will stick. If so, you must have attended Law School with Nick Bakas.

Well, what are you going to do, better do something. Remember what happened to Gil Gallegos when he tried to lie and cover up the Evidence Room thefts. He was eventually FIRED!

Anonymous said...

Does that mean that all these supervisors will be pulling weeds or working at the dog pound if they are put on admin leave? Thats the chief/mayors new policy but I bet it's only for the peons.

D.G. said...

Many people in Albuquerque, some very familiar with the process of selecting police chiefs, believe that politically appointing a chief is a troubled process which only pollutes the outcome. Many of these people believe there should be some mechanism other than just appointment such as a testing and application procedure used in years past. Many experienced, distinguished officers who are more than qualified would be among the applicant pool. Whatever change could be implemented, the difference would be a more independent and thus accountable police department which operates with less attention to the media. Unfortunately, the only opportunity for oversight now comes in the forms of Chavez appointed Chief Ray Schultz and of course good old Mayor Martin Chavez. While they're different individuals, they're also somewhat in this together. Will Chavez step up to the plate, do his part to solve the problem, and fire anyone? Or should we as voters, step up to the voting booth, solve the problem he partially created, and vote him out of office? My vote in the upcoming election is clear, is yours?

What pisses me off the most as a civilian is the possibility that each and every arrest made by Young will be overturned and these dirt bags will go free because he either a) was not a sworn officer, or b) that he lied under oath.

I have always felt that the reserve officer program makes light the profession of law enforcement. I had to spend 6 months in an academy being trained, yet one day a month warrior who does very little training can play policeman one day a month and then go back to his / her job in the real world. The chief should limit reserve officers to only retired officers.

If you want to be a cop then quit your job and be one. If you don't do it full time, don't expect to be allowed to play policeman as a reserve. The powers given officers are too important for them to be given to people who don't have the training or the commitment.

If that guy Lorenzo Montoya didn't live so close to where the 12 women were buried on the West Mesa, then I would say, "Hey, where was that David Young on those dates?" The 12,000 dollars in overtime was probably the driving force behind David Young's wanting to arrest prostitutes just to get overtime pay. According to the news, Lorenzo Montoya made some horrific comments at work at the Publishing Company about women and wanting to kill women.

Most of the posters on this blog are conveniently assuming facts about what happened in the David Young matter, and conveniently assuming what the law is, without even trying to figure out whether any of it is true. I've been waiting for the APD to set it straight, but they don't appear to have the political will to explain that nothing improper happened. Who knows why? Maybe they're just idiots; we've certainly seen that before. First, there's nothing in state law prohibiting a reserve officer from being paid in his regular job, which is all that happened. There is no truth in any of the alleged facts regarding state law reported by the Journal (relying on the head of the police academy -- not on a lawyer, judge or legislator). What does a guy who trains recruits know about statutory law? Conveniently absent in all of this is the complete failure of anyone who has been leveling accusations to check the actual law. I recommend all of you people do that and shut your ignorant mouths. For example, a "commissioned" police officer can make arrests etc. under state law. All "commissioned" means is that someone with authority assigned him to do the job. The APD had the authority to commission Young. That's the end of the story. You people are right -- there are lawsuits in the waiting here, but they're not the one's you imagine -- they're suits by Young against the APD and city (if they mis-step), Journal and any other ignorant slanderers. I predict the Journal reporter who muck-raked this story out of thin air without bothering to research the law (probably because he's not capable of actual investigation) will be history in a matter of weeks. All Young's attorney has to do is wave the statute in front of his publisher and this guy is toast, and Young should get a hefty payday out of it as well.

Did Young have any intreaction with the thirteen women located on the westside ?

I havent read the EYE in months but this story drove me over here to see what was posted --- leaving with my belief intact,,, most of you folks post while drunk or high.

Civilian running listening equipment gets paid to go out and do his job,, during the years of doing so it occurs to somebody that it might make sense for him to have reserve credentials since he is the only "non cop" on all these operations.

He goes to the reserve academy and graduates, and goes back to doing what he always did, except now once in awhile he also helps make arrests.

When the whole story comes out a lot of people will a) forget Young's name and b) be demanding the head of the person who violated a shitload of policy to sneak the story and copies of records to TJ Wilhelm

Oh yeah,, smart money is on a whole different guy than the dude with the DV charge mentioned in the story here.

Good story today by the Journal reporting on Bode Aviation.

My question is this, if Marty Chavez is such a micro manager and wants his thumb print on everything, how come he didn't know when his own personal secretary faked her own retirement so he could have her come back and double dip?

Of course Marty knew and approved her illegal retirement. When Barker caught them in this illegal act, Marty just had her suspend her retirement and allowed her to keep working!!!!! If he cares so much about the city and doing right why didn't he terminate her for falsely signing off on her 90 day retirement papers?

I am sick and tired of Marty Chavez corruption.

What is that smell coming from the 11 floor of city hall?

To the Eye, Mary Hahn and the Journal,

You need to immediately request a release of APD records involving all reserve officers for the last 5 years. APD's website states that reserve officers must provide one shift on PATROL (that means in uniform in a police are with an regular officer answering calls for service, not working Vice), and also that they have 4 hours of in service training every month.

For almost all of the reserve officers this doesn not happen. The majority of them are not out on regular patrol (working Vice, riding horses, hanging out at the range, etc is not a shift on patrol). Most of them never get 4 hours of training every month.

This program needs to end as Schultz and micro manager Marty have been asleep at the wheel and lucky us (taxpayers) we will get to fork over the money for their stupidity.

Uggghhh....

1. Criminal complaints are public records. There was no "sneaking" them out. Young filled out and signed the complaints using a variety of titles: officer, detective, r/officer.

2. Young completed time sheets with overtime hours dedicated to activities not related to his job as a civilian. There are time sheets with signatures by an acting-Sgt, Sgt, Lt., and Commander.

3, There's plenty of video footage of Young, by himself, booking hookers at the PTC.

The facts remain that this guy was doing stuff that was unlawful. That's also saying it was illegal. There are supervisors all the way up that knew about it--including Dinelli. Now you've got the ingredients for what's going to follow....

That stupid bitch Vigil-Jiron is indicted on 50 felony counts and still is in her job...we'll see if the outrage lasts to deal with this.

Are we gonna get over it?

So, the word now coming out of Sid is that Joe Hudson wants to launch his own investigation into the theft of Dave Youngs timesheets. Joe said this to the Chief and the Chief shut him down. Whistleblowers are protected, he was told, sorry Joe.
Thefts were occurring, not by the mole, but by Dave young. This is a Last ditch effort to re-direct the investigation to take some heat off them.

I think its funny that the Capt is pointing the finger at two recently removed vice officers instead of ranking or civillian Sid employees. Dave has pissed off many in Sid, with his "supervisor" credentials and the threat of going over on your gas allotment,,"I need a memo". Go back to looking at your VHS porn in your office. (file cabinet in the corner) Remeber he got tossed from Intel because they coulnd't stand him.
When Joe Hudson makes statement "see, this vindicates Mureen, see what she had to go through". What on earth does that mean?? Doesnt he realize that these statements get sent out city wide in real time??

All of this falls on the heels of an EEOC investigation where the Citys EEOC coordinator characterized Joe Hundson and Dave Young as uncredible. Futhermore she went on to say that disparaging remarks made by Joe and Dave left her feeling very concerned.
Anybody that has worked in SID known that Dave has had a great scam. Wear a gun and badge to work, "fleet manager" title, drive an undercover car and get paid to go out and play cop after hours. Most have also felt he was a liability just waiting to bite apd in the ass.
Reserves working as police officers are NOT allowed to get paid. EVERY Apd cop knowns that.

If Joe has some evidence then bring it forward, use it and clear yourself.

Time and time again supervisors, past and present, have brought up the issue that Dave was getting paid overtime. Joe and Rob assured them that is was ok and they would personally take care of it. Only in a place like Sid could they get away with this.

As far as Chris is concerned, he was smart. He just sat back and waited for Joe and Rob to hang themselves. I hope he get promoted.

Time to face the music boys.

Happy retirement Joe Hudson and Rob Smith!! 65th Academy Class

Right on the money.

Someone needs to investigate Lawrence Torrez who supposedly kept a reserve status when he left so after acquiring his "high three" he could retire at 20 years.

He left APD and should not be allowed back without going through the entire process again and if approved his seniority should start all over again.

What will the Mayor and Chief do. TJ investigate this.

The Saturday paper did a story on the Bode Aviation and Bakas wasn't fooling anybody when he said that the Mayor got tough with Bode Aviation to help the taxpayer. What about Airline stability and the fact that travel plans get delayed when there is an Airport restructuring. How many Airline companies have had to file bankruptcy. What about the airline company that filed bankruptcy because too poor to afford retirements for pilots and crew?
What about Elispse Aviation having to lay off workers, go through bankruptcy and restructuring... Who is Bakas and Martin Chavez think there fooling when Martin deliberatly out of retaliation for not getting freebies decided to make an already existence of getting by in a difficult economy suddendly to help the taxpayer. What about the Federal government having to shell out economic money and/or other money to help the airline industry stay afloat a few years back? So, how in the world does Martin and Bakas expect anybody to believe that load of B.S.? The airline industry has had to raise the cost per suitcase for the taxpayer. Causing an increase in rates is what Martin and Bakas were essentially trying to do which would ultimately hurt the taxpayer. For example, Bode Aviation would have to pay more to the City and that would pass on to the consumer which would ultimately impact the taxpayer. So, it is B.S. for Martin to try to wiggle out of what was really happening which was Martin was trying to abuse his power as Mayor and instead of being a good steward for local businesses, Martin sought out freebies from businesses just trying to earn their bread and butter for their own families to put on their own families plates. Martin could have started a strike had this been "Southwest." Martin's actions merit criminal prosecution because, yes..... the FBI does heavily regulate the airline industry.

Remember the old saying, "It's better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and prove everyone right."

Everyone here quoting the Journal (and worse yet TJ Wilham) are proving yourselves to be a fool. Since when has the Journal EVER gotten a story straight?

Perfect example: Evidence Room Scandel - Findings in the end? NO SCANDEL! Didn't see that printed in the paper did you!

I rest my case!

Anonymous said...

did dave young the civilian have a undercover take home car assigned to him? That guy is a crook! fire him!

Anonymous said...

(The APD had the authority to commission Young. That's the end of the story.)
Are you crazy!!!! It is the STATE OF NEW MEXIO that gives the commission afte completing a full academy and after taking the state certification test and of course you have to pass it. Its not just given to just anyone.

Anonymous said...

Reserve academt grad - did pass the test -

To quote Johnny Cochran::
The glove don't fit you must aquit

Anonymous said...

Yogi, must not be reading the same paper I did. At the end of the scandel I read that the Chief was fired and that a number of people working their were transferred. The report made it clear that there were bad things going on.

Maybe Yogi just forgot.

WHEN CAPT SAUZO GOT IN MINOR TROUBLE, THEY MOVED HIM AND PLACED HIM ON LEAVE ASAP. WHY NOT ON THIS CASE???????? BECAUSE HE IS NOT THE CHIEF'S FRIEND!

THIS IS SUCH B.S. OUR SYSTEM IS TWO FACED. IF YOUR THE CHIEF'S FRIEND YOU DON'T GET IN TROUBLE, BUT IF NOT HIS FRIEND THEY HAMMER YOU!

Anonymous said...

Why is Chief Schultz shutting down the reserve program. There are no issues with the program, just the supervision over in SID. They tried to scam the system and got caught. Don't try to hide the real issue chief, piss poor supervision at SID! Punish your friends as you would a regular officer. Equal justice!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

To previous poster who raises the question: will Martin get re-elected only to be arrested by the FBI? I suggest we voters not wait for the FBI, we should vote Chavez out of office, and let our good old mayor deal with the FBI on his own time.

Anonymous said...

APD's not the only city department that commits fraud for early timesheets--every city department has us turn in our timesheets prior to the dates we've worked. Why is that Marty? Why can't the pay period be for the time already worked instead of time yet to be worked. Seems like it would save a lot of paperwork and time sheet change forms, and P-30s and on and on......

Anonymous said...

Maybe the Mayor will step in and do what's right!

Anonymous said...

timesheets aren't due to payroll til the monday after the week has ended.

Anonymous said...

you are still a big idiot, call the state and ask the little question they will tell you if you are a reserve and you want to be a fulltime salaried law enforcement officer YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH A FULL ACADEMY and take the state test not APD bless you test for trying. NO SHORT CUTS FOR ANYONE DUMB DUMB.
It sounds like you are sleeping with D. Young go find someone else he is history!!!!!

Yogi said...

If you turn to the Journal for your truth then shame on you!

Real reason Reserve program was suspended ...... TJ made request for list of all officers and all reserve officers. We all know Marty is counting those reserves as regular officers and he doesn't want TJ to see duplicate names on the lists so he had no choice but to suspend the program to keep the reserve names from TJ!

Fire the "White Boys"? How about fire the racist cry babies? Please grow up!

"Yogi, must not be reading the same paper I did. At the end of the scandel I read that the Chief was fired and that a number of people working their were transferred. "

I know who you are, I have seen the same mispelled words before. Please try basic English 101 and stop embarassing us all!

Anonymous said...

Why so much complaining about "white boys at the range" and the like? Is it that the range offers more training and opportunity for serious officers than ever before. Hats off to the staff, as well as the former DCOP who got it up and running.

Aren't timesheets signed by the Sgt and Lt? Why the fuss over the DCOP of Investigations? The last thing he should be paying attention to is timesheets. We must have a team of monkeys working around the clock for some of these postings.

And how convenient, complain about a Lt. in a different section than career criminals where all this OT occurred.

Finally, thanks to those Montage Posting, Hard Working Detectives! You guys are awesome and it was a pleasure having you help me out.

Anonymous said...

The guys at the range do a great job!

The problem is the poor mgt that is in SID. SID has been a problem for many years. When DC Callaway came he took control. However, Comdr Pie Face Hudson and his supervisors that run the unit now walk a very fine line. I can't believe they have gotten this far without being caught. The big question is will Chief Schultz do anything to these supervisors that are his very close friends?

The problem is not with the Reserves, but with the scamming of illegal overtime and those who knew about it and let it continue, the supervisors!

Chief, that's the real problem, not the Reserve Program. Stop trying to cloud the issue. We all know what you are trying to do.

How about doing what's right for a change! Put the blame and punishment when it belongs.

Clean out SID! It should have been done long ago and you know it! If you do your problems will go away.

The article in monday morning Journal, the chief said that his special investigator has the authority to take the invesigtation any direction he has to. Well, here's a clue how bout allowing the invesitgation to take the Lt the direction it needs to be. As a detective, you don't direct where it leads you, you follow up leads and are a fact finder not a yes sir chief finder.

Anonymous said...

Everyone calling for the Commander to be fired because he shouldn't be there in the first place. McCabe remember you got to be a DCOP because of Davalos, so you just pass the good ol boy system on down to Hudson. Nice now look at the shape were in. SID suppose to have the top notch 34s and all we have are the best rob smith ass kissers in there now. When smith leaves, you ass kissers better hang on. If we all remember, Lt. Ward was transferred out on a lot less.

Who ever wrote “Finally, thanks to those Montage Posting, Hard Working Detectives! You guys are awesome and it was a pleasure having you help me out”.

I just want to say thank you for your support. It was my pleasure to serve you hard working officers. Keep guys and gals up the good work.

Well Chief, we all know how you CONTROL which way an investigation goes! Lets just say Andrew Gallegos. All your Officers and Supervisors told you you did not have a case against him, so you shopped around for a Det to try and put a case against Andrew. Well, it blew up in your face! In fact, the Judge even stated to stop wasting tax payer money on the investigation.

So we can pretty much tell where this case will go, no were to protect your friends!

So many other people have been transferred and disciplined, why not these supervisors for running an overtime scam!

Chief, now you know why your Officer's have NO respect for you! You have no intergrity! That's the only reason why they HATE you!

Anonymous said...

Do I detect a hint of "sarcasim" in these posts???????

If young was working for APD, does that mean he gets the 20 year retirement or is he on the 25 year plan like like non-sworn?. Does it make a difference, if he charges people under state law or city ordinace, if he fits the definition of a police officer? I thought only the state traffic code requires police to be full-time salary.

Anonymous said...

Did you read the paper today. That APD Lt knew full well what he was doing when he and his Commander scammed all the police overtime. I have yet to read where your chief has taken any action against the chain of command that allowed this to happen. Why have all these guys not been transferred?

Anonymous said...

Because they are the golden tokens of APD. It doesn't matter if they did wrong the 5th floor will stand behind the supervisors. I say fire them all Fraud is a felony, so hurry up and do the investigation and fire them. Oh and if they go on administrative leave send them to the animal shelter.

Anonymous said...

Maybe Mayor Chavez will step in and make Schultz do what has needed to be done for a long time.

Mayor Chavez, make Schultz do what's right!

Anonymous said...

So Chief, you said you didn't read that letter Lt Smith sent up to you. Do you read anything that's sent up to you, or do you just pass it on.

You read it and you know it, especially since it came from your friend Lt Smith! Don't try to pass the buck on this one. The buck stops with you. That letter went up the entire chain of command and they all read it and sent up to the next level of supervision! It then stops with you, then the committee votes on it, but you do see it.

Anonymous said...

Just for clarification, Lt Christopher Bakas took no part in the promotion of the SID civilian to Det. Further, he never authorized the civilian to work on his own/alone.

Christopher is a well educated individual, earning his MPA and knowns very well the limitations of a Reserve Officer, as well as the ramifications of allowing someone to violate the law.

Clearly, Chris did not partake in any of these outlandish schemes for the procurement of illegal overtime. He is part of the division, but supervises a completely different section, which is totally unrelated to the situation in question.

Anonymous said...

The supervisors should be demoted, or at least run out of SID with that threat.

This is only one of many issues Dave Young has created over the years. The tip of the ice berg. Young could do serious prison time if every thing comes out. Do the right thing for yourself and the dept. Dave, resign. What do ya say, babe?

Anonymous said...

Chris please quit posting on here...no one but you uses words like that to bore the hell out of people..dont worry..youll get promoted still

Heather, way to stand by your man! Chris knew what was going on with Young and yet he remained silent; which is an endorsement of Young's actions.

Anonymous said...

If you work in SID, nothing is hush hush within the unit so shut the **** up. When I worked in SID all the civilians knew what was going on too, I'm sure it has not changed and it will never change. It is true that the unit tries to keep everything within the unit so no one else knows. If you are in SID you knew what was going on. If you did nothing about it well that is your problem. This behavior is in the SOP read it! (TERMINATION) You to should be asked to leave or retire if you can.

Anonymous said...

Christopher? Isn't that Winnie the Pooh's buddy?

Anonymous said...

Chris Bakas for SID Commander

Anonymous said...

Lt Bakas will clean up that mess Hudson made.

Anonymous said...

Winnie the Pooh for SID commander!

Has anyone been transferred or placed on leave yet for the overtime scandal and fraud?

DC Silva, immediately forced to retire. 911 did not answer all the calls that came in at once and overloaded the system.

Capt Sanez immediately placed on admin leave for months because she voiced her concern over top mgt at a Union meeting.

Capt Suazo, immediately placed on admin leave and transferred for voicing his concern on the quality of a cadet trying to get into the academy.

DC McCabe, still working as if nothing happened.

Comander Hudson, still working in SID, as if nothing has happened.

Lt Smith, still working in SID, as if nothing has happened.

Civilian Young, still working in SID, as if nothing has happened.

Anyone see the disparate treatment of officers by APD's Chief Schultz!

Anonymous said...

Of course you'd have to pull your head out of Pete Dinelli's arse before you could know what is going on.

Anonymous said...

According to the state statute book the only reserve officers are Mounted Patrol and Conservation Officers. County reserve deputies are special deputies allowed by state statue.

Anonymous said...

Will Cmdr Hudson be held accountable.......He allowed it all to happen and knew full well it was wrong!

Anonymous said...

Everyone in SID knew it was wrong and not one of them stepped up to the plate when it was happening until something happend to them and it didn't go their way so now lets let it out of the bag. BS send them all walking all of the supervisors and detectives this was not a secret. Dam you guys for not doing what you are suppose to do! That is termination!!!!

Anonymous said...

Hell yeah -- Chris Bakas !!! He ought to get promoted just to prove that an advanced degree and doing everything right for 20 years counts for something

Anonymous said...

Chris should retire too he knew about it.

Anonymous said...

If Chris doesn't retire then he to should be fired worth less supervision.

Anonymous said...

To the one that thinks Chris walks on water,TAKE YOUR HEAD OUT OF HIS ASS!!!! He is a looser like the rest of SID All of the Supervisors!
They should read the SOP violation after violation after violation should receive nothing but termination.

Anonymous said...

Chris is a fair supervisor who doesn't sweat the small stuff. Dislike him for whatever reason if you like, but stop your whining. The Dave Young Incident deals with Dave and his chain of command that allowed this. I knew about Dave Young, but as a peon in the dept I trust his supervisors to be in charge of him. They ALLOWED it to occur. I trust the Chief and city attorneys and such to do their job.

If you've studied anything (I'm not talking about a comic book) on Sociology of Police or similar you will realize that police officers CANNOT be guided by flow charts and SOPs for every situation. They use judgement and discretion. Of course there is some error, but otherwise you get complete ineffective officers who just follow rule after rule and guideline upon guideline.

If this is too difficult to understand maybe it's because I'm working on an advanced degree. One thing is for certain, my education (and I can guess Chris' as well) allows me to understand that 'loser' is the word you are looking for, not 'looser'. As in, your brain is small and therefore looser in your cranium, allowing it to rattle about!

And no, I'm not Heather either.
