Mayer Out

The topsy turvy world of politics continues to amaze us. We just got confirmation from our Eyes that as 770KKOB reported earlier today, Councilor Sally Mayer is dropping out of the race for District 7 council. The departure leaves an almost unobstructed path for Michael Cook to take the District 7 chair.

Rumor has it that Mayer could even be leaving before her term is complete which would pave the way for Mayor Chavez to fill the seat until December. Either way with only one name on the October ballot and the only other candidate - David Green - a write-in candidate, it looks like Michael Cook will be the next councilor from District 7.

----- Update -----
770 KKOB reporter Peter St. Cyr is reporting that Councilor Mayer will be staying through the end of her term. The move takes away the potential for a temporary replacement to be selected by The Almighty Alcalde.

City Council pay doesn't begin to compensate these people for their time. Maybe she realized she could get another PT job and pay her bills.

I heard on the news that Mayer is going to be moving out of State. Best of luck to her!

While the work involved to be a city councilor is time consuming, often frustrating, and definately low paying, it can be very rewarding in how it contibutes to the planned growth of our city. As one looks at the departing councilor and current selection of replacements, it is worth wondering who among these two would be best to do the work in the future.

Since M. Cook is a solid Marty minion, and Sally is not, did she get an offer she couldn't refuse?
Does Marty now own the D-7 seat?

Cadigan will be the next to go.

Marty's still a crooked schmuck.

Not to worry about Martin Chavez because my understanding is that the FBI recently interviewed him about the Bode Aviation and how he
tried to extort freebies and when denied those freebies by a retired APD Officer decided to end Bode's Contract with Double Eagle Airport. That came out a critical time when Eclipse was financially suffering and people faced layoffs. What that kind of malicious, greedy, atitude of "do what I say, or else," led to was a Dominio Effect in the Federally controlled Airline industry. The Aviation Department run by Homeland Security needs to stay informed of political extortions involving the airlines. Martin will probably face extortion charges and/or other charges after initial investigation. Bode's Owner has lots of credibility and he wouldn' t have made those accusations unless for a reason.

I would like to exchange the word above from "extortion" to "criminally," in describing what I believe Chavez should be charged with. To extort means to reveal something personally about a person in exchange for goods or services. The owner of Bode Aviation, a retired APD officer had nothing that Chavez could reveal personally. I believe, in my opinion, that Chavez and his staff made up and created falsehoods on reasons to not renew (cancel) Bode's contract. Whatever fabrication Chavez and his staff created (if any), in my opinion is criminal. I read that Bode Aviation does have a lawsuit against the City. The Owner of Bode worked long and hard to establish a business and was merely trying to stay afloat in a time of difficulty in the overall economy. Chavez came in and from what I read demanded "freebies," free plane rides, etc... from Bode Aviation. When denied... got angry and threatened to cancel Bode's lease agreement with the City. What excuse if any did Chavez have or was Chavez using a fabrication. If Chavez doesn't need a reason to cancel or not renew lease agreements, then that is pretty bad and so would be fabricating a reason. I believe that Chavez and people inside Chavez's inner circle need to be held accountable to the Airline Industry. A Mayor needs to be more like an Ambassodor that promotes businesses, but one that realizes that those businesses cannot afford to give away to anybody freebies. Chavez took (from what I read) and in my opinion, jobs away from the people who worked at Bode Aviation and from families because he wasn't going to promote any business or renew a contract etc.... to a business that wouldn't give Chavez free airplane rides. So, to reiterate the Owner of Bode Aviation despite whatever fabrication that Chavez did or didn't do (in my opinion), worked to damn hard and put in a lot of hours to make his business stay afloat and successful for somebody like Chavez to come in and destroy it. Chavez did a crime against the Aviation business and I'm grateful that the FBI stays atuned to the happenings and airports and investigates. An FBI agent interviewing Chavez can only mean one thing (about the Bode Aviation) that the FBI fully understands that the Airline business must be out of harms way from people like Chavez. People in the Airline industry follow policies and procedures that are designed to keep the public safe. The airlines industry everytime undergoes restructuring or cancelled contracts takes away from the overall security. This must be investigated and those that broke the goodwill spirit prosecuted. No, Bode Aviation needed to stay afloat and couldn't and shouldn't have been expected to give away anything for free. It costs money to operate a business. No exceptions.

Martin Chavez was in a very public divorce with his wife. Alimony is
key in the Bode Aviation investigation and Martin Chavez out of loosing personal income in having to pay alimony tried to
get a freebie from Bode Aviation. The logic is simple: Martin Chavez (sealed his divorce case) and though it aired on television that Martin got divorced..... the amount of alimony is uncertain. Well, Hummer's are expensive and Martin Chavez wallet and personal income probably took a big hit like the hurricane Katrina to Louisana in terms on personal income. Way to go Marguerite! Stick it to Chavez! You deserve all of his money and every cent of his paycheck from the City because without you- Chavez wouldn't have gotten anywhere. In my opinion, I hope his ex-wife got everything in the divorce proceedings which is in my opinion why he sealed the divorce because he didn't want in my opinion to know how little money was left! Ha!Ha! Take everything Marguerite! I heard Chavez has a new wife and I don't know if that's true or not. Well, ex-wifes, new wifes etc... can get expensive.... so, Chavez must have lost it when the owner of Bode Aviation told him, "no." Not to mention he was probably in the midst of divorce..... and psychologically (in my opinion) must have been a mess. Nobody, has the authority or the right to go into the Aviation and Airline Company and order people around and start demanding freebies. Chavez asked Bode Aviation to break their policies and expected that in an area that is heavily protected and regulated by the Federal government, FBI, Federal Aviation and Homeland Security. Chavez shouldn't be in any more power to appoint anybody- Official to the Airline Industry because he jeopordized aviation stability (restructuring) and public safety (in my opinion).

Let's hope that the FBI keeps its eye on the ball here and holds Chavez, et al accountable. He's been getting away with too much for too long. And let's also hope that Bode isn't paid off in order to "go away".

I kinda got that notion, too about Bode being offered up a settlement from Martin. I think Martin realizes that what he did was basically act like a 5 year old throwing a temper tantrum and that Bode was just trying to cover their expenses. Gas to fly takes money, so plane rides do cost the Owner even if the Owner could pilot for free. This time, the Federal government regulates the Airline Industry. The FBI has heard I know at least other complaint about Martin, but could do little because out of jurisdiction and that person was told to talk to the D.A. about it. Well, Bode and Double Eagle airport are the Airlines industry and that has got to be protected against political Mayors like Martin who walk in to an airport and start making unreasonable and illegal demands on people. Bode aviation had a right to expect a normal fee for the cost to fly the plane and for the gas because that is Bode Aviation's employees bread and butter and the Owners! So, when Martin went through with his threat and ended Bode's contract with the City, then that was carrying out the threat to destroy the stabilty of an airline company and the bread and butter of employees and the owner and also put public safety in danger. The FBI will most probably forward their fact findings to the U.S. Attorney to finally have Martin criminally prosecuted. The fear of fabrication is very real. I wonder what Martin said about Bode as fabricated excuse, if any, to end Bode's contract. Bode served Double Eagle very well and couldn't have done something drastically wrong. Scary how Martin appointed Bakas to run the ABQ Airport! I hope Martin doesn't try to get out of airport security by telling Bakas he would be fired for doing his job. Even Bingaman had to go through Airport security!

It's good to rely on the FBI for protection against our mayor, yet it would also be great if local politicians and the general public can democratically put limits on the official. At the very least, think about who else you might vote for in the upcoming mayor's race. I would encourage people to even vote strategically, especially since the runoff has been reinstated.

Thank god that idiot Mayer is going. She can't do anything professional, yet makes million dollar decisions for our city. Ohh, just another politician!

Anonymous said...

Great idea, voting strategically. Anyone that has the balls to have the city charter overturned on the chance that they'll be elected for yet another term is DANGEROUS. THINK: PINOCHET. (If I spelled it wrong you'll all let me know.)

To previous poster: politicians, though the problem in your view, are also part of the solution if they carry out what some, including yourself, beleive are the right decesions. Quit slamming politicians, run for office, offer solutions, get involved. Interestingly enough, if you were to run for office, and be elected, you would become just anohter politician with all the inherient benefits of the office. Additioannly, your record would be abailable to criticism for all your unprofessional decesions. Involvement in the process would produce a different perspective than your obvious slant.

Sincerely,

Tired of your slams

There is no problem in getting involved. Each person commenting is getting involved just by adding their two cents. The problem is in who to elect this year which is just in another month and a half away! The local politics tend to read like a daytime drama: Will Martin get re-elected only to be arrested by the FBI?

Well, at least Bingamen didn't close down the ABQ Airport and misuse his power to end contracts at the Albuqueruqe Airport after he had to go through security a few years back. Keep in mind that when people of different religous and countries and origins see the typical white guy having to go through security, too that somehow that helps those that experience racial profiling. So, if only Martin would have realized before ending the lease agreement of Bode Aviation and causing and creating much instability in the airlines industry... that yes... pilots need to get paid.... and yes.... airplanes cost money to fly.... and yes.... airport stability and security is regulated heavily by the FBI.

To previous poster, you're absolutely correct, involvemnt is as easy as posting to this list. An earlier comment about slaming was about another poster who was grouping all politicians together as being all bad; a comment some would find offensive,as some politicians are good, decent people working toward solutions. As you also correctly point out, the decesions before individuals should be who is the right candidate for the job. Unfotrunately, our system of elections does not always ferret out the right candidate. With this in mind, I would encourage voters to learn about their candidates in constructive ways instead of adding to the drama. As far as the upcoming mayoral and council elections are concerend, it is worth pointing out that many voters do not know much about their respective candidates. Ultimately, involvment in the democratic process includes knowledge of the participants.
