The Piercing Truth

This is right from the dictionary and seems to describe Albuquerque, Berry and Schultz. Fascism (f ash ,izem) noun An authoritarian right wing system of government and/or social organization. Tantrum! Council Disobedience

Four city councilors pitched a fit at tonight's council meeting and decided a dinner date at Capo's restaurant was more important than attending the meeting. Councilors Sanchez, Mayer, Harris, and newly elected Trudy Jones decided to show their displeasure with the vote to make Councilor Winter President of the Council by boycotting the meeting.

Of course the councilors made time after their main courses to drop by city hall long enough to look foolish for the media and make the 10 o'clock news, but they apparently didn't have time to do what they were elected to do - our business. The reason given by the foolish foursome - Councilor Winter decided to pull his support for Councilor Sanchez's bid for President in favor of... well, himself. Hey, who would you vote for?

Meanwhile issues like Tax Increment Funding Districts, Red Light Camera Moratoriums, and Neighborhood Recognition Ordinances were on the agenda with barely a quorum to hear them. What we're really torqued about is the fact that even though the Red Light Camera Moratorium passed 3 to 2 (Winter, Cadigan, & Garduno in favor, O'Malley & Benton against) it's not even close to veto proof. And if today's little tantrum is any indication, Winter will have a heck of a time trying to get three votes out of tonight's Capo's Dinner Club members should the Almighty Alcade decide to veto the bill.

We've got some news for the Foolish Foursome, NO ONE CARES! Most people would have a hard time naming the councilor they voted for much less which one ended up president of this "august" body. Tonight's little show of council disobedience only served to make you look foolish and petty. Not at all the best start for the new council.

To Councilors Sanchez,Mayer,Harris, and Jones. How dare you treat the citizens you are suppose to represent in the disrespectful manner you have. This REDLIGHT issue has hurt the citizens of this community by stealing cash from them . All of this stolen gotten windfall was used to balance the city budget and who knows what else. Guess what none of the money was used for public safety. THE POLICE don't want any part of this stolen money. As for Councilor Winter being elected President, all I can say is good job, we need a leader. COUNCILOR WINTER has tried twice to scrap this money maker fraud filling Marty pockets. Councilors Sanchez, Mayer, Harris and Jones didnt get their way so thet took their football and went home. Please stay at home.

Note to those 4 city councilors: It's called politics kiddies. If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

Looks to this observer like Councilor Winter had his power play all lined up--promise to vote for both O'Malley and Sanchez, then when neither can win, see which group would follow him. And it gives the Winter family two very powerful positions, plus in the unlikely event that Mayor Chavez gets elected to the Senate, leaves the Winters even better off. Of course, it's not like any APS administrator has ever been a role model of integrity and honesty.

Does it really matter who is Council President. The very fact that Councilor Winter has taken the bull by the horns and is going to try and stop the red light camera scam, indicates to me that he should be leading this council.

Councilor Sanchez is way too close to Marty Chavez to be objective! Marty would be running the council under Sanchez.

The task force that Marty put togeather to study the red light camera program will report exactly what Mayor Marty wants reported. To say the least, it will be shaded.

As for the rest of the Councilors that stood by Ken Sanchez, you should be ashamed, you're elected to serve the people of Albuq, not your own self interest!

Put a stop to the red light scam, that's what the citizens of Albuquerque want. Also, put aside any personal issues with Winter, and do what is right!

Sally Mayer can do a real service to her constituents by hanging out at Capo's and staying away from council chambers for the remainder of her term. Only the prairie dogs will miss her.

At least Councilman Winter showed up! Get real, we are represented by four lame, power-affected councilpersons, who don't have the moxy to show up and at least discuss their displeasure in the proper forum. Albuquerque is growing up, and those that wish to represent it need to grow up with it.

Looking at this event and add up all the events of the last 24 or so months including the red light BS into this furball and just what have we got?
A damn good reason to boot the lot in a city wide vote of no confidence and restart from scratch. We have been subjected as a community from the asinine all the way to questionable legality then back again.

Just when is this cities residents going to stand their ground in unison and bring this sad circus to an end?

Councilor Sanchez was like a kid that did not get his way, so he ran home with all his toys a refused to play!

The sad part is that 3 other councilors went with him. I just can't see four grown people acting this foolish just because they could not be president of the council. Their behavior is embarrassing to this city.

I sure hope none of these four, Sanchez, Mayer, Jones or Harris plan on running for mayor in the future.

Albuquerque does not need another Bad mayor!

They all looked soooo very foolish last night on the news.

Mayor use your "VETO" power....! Please! Secure your future and do it. The voters will remember this act.

Now aren't you glad that we didn't give these folks a raise???? I hope that the Feckless Foursome have the integrity to forego and salary from last night. Wait...what am I saying??? These are Marty's darlings, therefore integrity, will not be a factor!!!

Yaeh Marty, PLEASE veto this Moritoium and secure your future working for the Public Defenders Office.

Who is Trudy Jones to be taking sides? I've got more time on the city hall shitter than she does as a city councilor. Hey Trudy try doing what you were elected to do. GO TO THE MEETINGS and stay outta the CRAP.

Councilor Sanchez, you and your group looked like you were about to cry on TV the other night!

How about just showing up and doing your job! You lost our respect......

PS, did Mayor Chavez put up up this?

Trudy,

Your first Council Meeting, your first impression! Way to define your reputation as a follower for the next four years, no mind of your own?

Sally Mayer is becoming a baby cry, and thank god the Ken Sanchez did this, he just screwed his mayoral chance. No support and a crybaby at that.

If they really wanted to make a statement, then discuss it publicly!

Even though the Council is not nearly paid enough it is their duty to show up and serve the public like you should!

To the Council that was there and performing their duties. Thank You.

Councilor Winter, thank you for taking on the Mayor's corrupt government!

We the citizens of Albuquerque support you!

I know you will read this or hear about this Ms. Jones. I cant believe you lasted less than one hour as a public servant. please quit now and do not put us through two more years of a stalled and dying abq, you should be ashamed of yourself for making such a fool of yourself. yes im in your district and yes I will do whatever it takes to make sure you leave as soon as possible. you have made a mockery of everything were hoping to change in this city

I hope that dinner at Capo's was not a reimburseable expense of the taxpayers dollars.

How true. Marty sucks people into doing his dirty work and when they fail, he discards them like rubbish. Ask the people who went after Don Harris. Marty was their buddy and promised them great things while they were trying to lynch 'ole Don. Well he prevailed and Marty screwed Don's enemies for not getting the job done.

The Mayor has a history of forgetting those that helped him!

I guess Councilor Harris forgot that Mayor Chavez wanted his hide nailed to the barn door!

Two up. I'd bet anything that it is/was.
It's called a Concilor's conference and I'll bet anything that the Mayor picked up the tab. A good reporter would find that out.

Don, you just got out of the 'dog house'. No publicity is the best for you.

Congratulations Albuquerque! You have once again proven that part of your City Council has very limited integrity. Half the Council voted to elect a new president known for his duplicity! Isn't it wonderful when four democrats (some from the left of the Democratic Party) vote to elect a Republican (known for his self serving aggrandizement)as our City Council President. Bipartisanship at its worst! We now have somkething to be truly grateful for. Can you imagine what it would be like if Mayor Chavez was elected to the Senate and Brad Winter was to become our Mayor? This only two years after he was roundly defeated in his bid to become Mayor by the Citizens of Albuquerque! I guess our citizens are smarter than the City Council!
