The Piercing Truth

This is right from the dictionary and seems to describe Albuquerque, Berry and Schultz. Fascism (f ash ,izem) noun An authoritarian right wing system of government and/or social organization. (in general use) extreme right wing, authoritarian, chauvinistic and/or intolerant views or practices. Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one group over another, national, ethnic, especially social strata or monetarily; a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach. Update: Bad Choice

A week ago Tuesday, we told you about APD's newest cost-cutting measure. The 5th Floor has administratively mandated that officers who pick up suspected drunk drivers are to handle the testing, arresting, transportation to and booking into MDC (read our take here). By Friday, KOB-TV had picked up the story.

Admittedly, the move will save the department money and APD has a chronic overtime problem. However, the new policy has resulted in a dramatic reduction in DWI arrests. In fact, our Eyes tell us that both MADD and the DA's office are saying that arrests dropped by 73% last week.

That means almost three quarters of the potential DWI suspects were left driving around last week as compared with the week before. You can bet the folks over at MADD are... well... mad or at least a bit miffed.

I wonder if the accident ratio increased last week? .... Probably not!!

Is he 47?

Its only gonna get worse, regular officers dont want to spend 3 to 4 hours of their time in a station doing DWI paperwork and calibration checks on a stupid machine! They'd rather be out driving around keeping neighborhoods safe.

The paperwork alone which needs to be filled out is absolutely ridiculous and theres so many ways it can be screwed up that no one wants to take the liability of going through that mess just to get it dismissed on some stupid technicality.

Or maybe the numbers dropped because theres just no more drunks driving around? wink wink

Berry kept Schultz and brought White in. The blame for this stupidity rests with the Mayor, even if everyone knows RJ's a "mayor" in name only.

First comment make a joke all you want I hope your family is never dealing with a bad accident because of a dwi!

This is F _ _ king nuts. Viewed the video. Public Safety "we just can't afford" says the Public Safety Director Darren White.
What we can't afford is a $125,000.00 ++ a year position that Darren White is filling. That position was supposed to be eliminated, for we all know it was created specifically for Nick Backass as a political favor.
This is just another screw up notch in Berry's belt.
Now Berry rewards White for coming over at the last days of the campaign to endorse Berry.

The truth is concerning "alcohol related" fatalities, the driver has a blood alcohol content
usually at least double (or more) the PRESUMED level of intoxication. Somehow, actual drunk drivers are still a danger to the society, and are the folks always in the news (not to mention the greater number of drivers who are envolved in accidents who haven't even had a drink, accidents happen). Drunks are not being stopped even though most responsible drinkers are the ones being arrested. Why is that? Maybe we need to revisit policy and start looking for the real drunks instead of the wrong element. Stop wanting overtime pay and truly be interested in the safety as you say is your interest!

arrest drunk driver barboa
just follow him outta tds north!

Darreen; get a clue. This money saving idea is a bad one. Make cuts somewhere else, staring with your position.
For Safety sake we will all be prone to more alcohalic related crashes and property crime as a result of police being tied up the entire shift on one or two dwi stops.
Budget be damned. Public Safety IS NOT WHERE YOU MAKE CUTS.

Rank and file wage deductions while city appointees make MORE than what those earned under Marty Chavez???

I don't think so!!! Hold on.....

Who was driving APD Unit F304 (Supervisor vehicle) around 3PM near Juan Tabo? Don't you know that driving and talking on a cell phone is illegal in ABQ. Oh wait, APD is exempt from the laws of our city.

What a crock of shit. What about a homicide call out or any call where numerous officers are involved. They are all supposed to be listed on the report. Maybe Officers will start listing everyone on scene for every call so the defense attorney can mandate their presence for pre-trial interviews and trial.

If Darren and RJ wan't it done by the book then officers should do so and raise the expense way above what a DWI case cost.

We have idiots running this city and public safety now......bring Marty back, everyone press for a recall election!!!!

Save money...Why doesn't Alb try something like other cities that aren't as jacked-up. Instead of having officers show up to court 3 or 4 times and have the case continued for one stupid reason or another to finally show up and have the defense plea...Lets have the DAs office do their work and offer a plea up front. If the defense wants to take it fine, if not and they want to go to trial then lets go. If you had officers show up once and go to trial instead of the multiple times they have to show up now, you'd save some real money.....wait....the 5th floor can't do that because they would actually have to do some work and build some bridges between the DAs office and the Metro Court judges

I voted for Berry WHAT WAS I THINKING I HAD HOPE!!!

Who cares about the police talking and driving, so long as it isn't careless, reckless, or failing to keep a proper lookout. The cell phone law was just another example of a hack politician trying to make a name while wailing, "won't someone please think of the children!" There have been laws to deal with crappy driving for years, we don't need a cell phone law. Please tell me who you are, and I'd be happy to drive circles around you while talking on my phone. Maybe you should thank the supervisor for working for city and putting up with all the headaches that go with it.

A grateful citizen.

Darren & Ray will cost Berry all of his political capitol.
Your base of supporters is all but gone.
Ask Allen Weh what he things of your Pubic Safety Director.
True Republicans with real clout are not happy.
This administration, to many Dems, consider this as Marty's fourth term.
(Only Marty knew what and who he was doing)
Oh, but I digress; Darren and Ray know WHO (not what) they are doing.
Campbell's below the radar working his own sneaky, slimy deals.
Marty would never have been this stupid or would put up with this undermining bullshit.

Sounds like you're stalking Peaches either that or you've got nothing better to do. You sound a bit unstable.

APD unit F304 was seen with its police officer driver (male) talking on a cell phone near Juan Tabo in the SE Heights as noted above. The vehicle did not show indications of an emergency situation (lights/siren/high speed) but was instead leisuring driving through the area. This was simple a chance encounter and the officer was so busy talking he did not notice a citizen observing his actions. The unit was a SUV which according to an article in the Albuquerque Journal identifies it as supervisory. Of course the same type vehicle could also be used for routine work too but most civilians would not know that. In any case it appears he was violating the law.

wasnt a sergeant it was k-9 or open space, both civilians.
