The Piercing Truth

This is right from the dictionary and seems to describe Albuquerque, Berry and Schultz. Fascism (f ash ,izem) noun An authoritarian right wing system of government and/or social organization. (in general use) extreme right wing, authoritarian, chauvinistic and/or intolerant views or practices. Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one group over another, national, ethnic, especially social strata or monetarily; a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach. Cozy Relationship Canceled

Dealer-gate seems to be getting somewhat more intriguing. It turns out that the 4th Street used car and illegal recreational pharmaceuticals dealer and APD have a history. According to our Eyes, the dealership was contracted by the department to provide vehicles to the SID and IMPACT units. Yesterday, that cozy little contract was canceled after news of the burned investigation broke.

It's not unusual for APD to purchase vehicles from used car dealers particularly for units like SID and IMPACT where driving around in Ford Crown Victorias wouldn't exactly be low profile. In the past, the department would purchase their vehicles from Budget. The vehicles usually had some kind of warranty, were only a few years old, and had been maintained by the company. It was a good deal for the city and for Budget.

We don't know when the still unnamed dealer was extended the contract, but it does explain the ties of two APD officers to the dealership. According to our Eyes, the allegations against Ron Olivas and Brad Ahrensfield claim that Olivas tipped off Ahrensfield who relayed the information to a relative that worked at the dealership. Our Eyes tell us that the relative in question was allegedly Ahrensfield's son.

All of this makes a lot more sense now that there seems to have been a two way relationship between APD and the used car dealer. Otherwise, why would Olivas feel compelled to burn an FBI investigation knowing that if caught he could end up in a set of handcuffs.

It looks like there's more to this than a couple of officers tipping off an alleged drug dealer and burning an FBI investigation. For one thing it never looks good when a law enforcement agency has a cozy little relationship with the criminals they are supposed to be chasing.

Really! This is really a story! So, there was a contract to purchase used cars from APD... Hey! I wonder if there is more to this like undercover cars old chevy and imperial's being sold for CASH FOR CLUNKERS, but know "new" car purchased or squad car for the City purchased. Just a thought. I hate to make life difficult for legit Auto dealers who rely upon government money from the CASH FOR CLUNKERS Program.

Under New Mexico Commericial law can a used Auto dealer sell a brand new vehicle? There might have been some issues in what the legality is that a used car dealership can do that caused the FBI to look into the dealership to begin with.

Did anybody read today's front page paper about the Reserve Officer wanting to go out and "point a gun at somebody today," if Lorenzo Montoya hadn't been so close to where the West Mesa graves were buried, then....
I would definetly have David Young investigated!

The emails from the Reservse Officer David Young to his Superiors in command showed a kinda anger against who? Was David Young married, have marital problems, divorced recently... why on earth would his Superior Officers allow David Young to make a personal statement of needing to point a gun at somebody on page 2 of today's Journal? That kind of attitude sorta came across as David Young not having any respect for his Superiors. Did David Young have information on his Superiors that would be damaging? Why would his Superiors allow this to happen?

Shocking, deplorable, despicable behavior coming from a man with a badge and a gun. Now, I do believe Attorney Mary Han when she says that this guy wanted to grab at women, went undercover, made the arrest, signed his name, falsified his time card and the police report and touched female breasts! His Superiors need to be suspended for a couple of months without pay!

You're an idiot. I guess it never occurred to you that Brad was protecting his son, and maybe gave him a heads up. I cant understand your willingness to malign Brad and Olivas, while both of them are known to be good decent cops, albeit targets of the administration. Obviously, the fifth floor had an opportunity to take a shot at two of their favorite whipping boys, and didnt take into account the political ramifications before it was to late. I assume this blog is supposed to be fun, but it hurts the reputations of good people, and that is totally irresponsible. I guess you may make it as a member of the real media someday after all.

Wannabe Cop Cozy With Bosses

By T.J. Wilham
Journal Staff Writer
An Albuquerque police civilian employee who was allowed to work as a police officer was apparently close friends with some of APD's top brass.
David Young called his bosses "hon," "daddy," "pookie" and "Sunshine." He also shared jokes with them that poked fun at Catholics, gays, masturbation and President Barack Obama, according to department e-mails obtained by the Journal.
Those e-mails are part of an investigation launched last month by Police Chief Ray Schultz.
"We will investigate any inappropriate use of city equipment," Schultz said. "There is plenty of work to be done without them messing around and putting jokes on their computers. People get paid to do a day's work and not fool around."
Young's attorney John D'Amato said Wednesday that no one complained about the e-mails.
"It is police locker-room talk that happens more frequently than you think or know about," D'Amato said. "If the department is going to look at every e-mail sent between every single employee without a complaining witness, they are going to open up a can of worms, and they need to be prepared to call a temporary staffing agency."
Young was a reserve police officer, which is a volunteer officer who goes through half the training of a regular police officer. According to the state's law enforcement academy, reserves are not legally allowed to make arrests.
Young's e-mails were directed to Lt. Rob Smith and Commander Joe Hudson. Hudson commands APD's Special Investigation Division. Smith signed off on some of Young's time sheets.
Young was assigned to the division as a radio technician. He was also responsible for the division's fleet of vehicles.
In some of the e-mails, it appears Young was the one who decided when he would work overtime.
In one message to Smith, he said he needed to point his gun at somebody.
"I think we should get Pat and Randy, Kevin you of course and spread your own hate around Alb.," Young wrote to Smith. "I need to point my GUN at somebody because this week has been turning into (expletive). Love David."
In other messages, Young, Smith and Hudson forwarded each other a series of jokes.
The jokes were labeled "Fruit Cake Lady," "Upset Wife," "The Am I Gay Self Exam For Men," "Best Pool Shot Ever By A Naked White Chick" and "Why Italians Can't Be Paramedics."
Most of the jokes contained photographs and videos.
Schultz said he was concerned about Smith's and Hudson's relationship with Young. The chief said it is not uncommon for superiors to be friends with the officers underneath them but that they need to remain professional.
D'Amato said the relationship among Hudson, Smith and Young was professional, not personal.
"Joe Hudson and Rob Smith are two model supervisors," D'Amato said. "David Young was never given any special treatment by them. If they felt something he was doing was inappropriate, they would have put a stop to it."
Schultz said his department recently started a new "leadership academy" that addresses how supervisors should treat subordinates.
Schultz suspended the reserve program in August after a Journal investigation revealed reserves had made 23 arrests and issued 42 traffic tickets since 2003.
Schultz said Tuesday that he is reviewing recommendations from his staff on what to do with the program. The chief has said he intends to bring it back.
Young arrested 24 people and was being paid overtime when the majority of arrests were made. According to city ordinance and APD policy, reserves are volunteer officers and are not allowed to be compensated.
So far, six of Young's arrests have been dismissed. The city is considering asking Metropolitan Court to overturn the 10 arrests Young made that resulted in convictions.

You can tell good ol ray is streessed and he is getting what he deserves. I saw him late Wednesday night at Santa Ana Casino and he didn't look like himself. Looks like karma is coming around Mr. Shultz.

1) why would a supervisor get an email with that content and not start an internal investigation?
2) With knowledge of this and nothing being done both supervisors should be fired! Malfeasance

MY GOD TRYING TO DO THE RIGHT THING ? BLOWING AN FBI 27 IS THE RIGHT THING ? IF YOU ARE A 34 AND YOU REALLY BELIEVE IN YOUR HEART THAT RON AND BRAD WAS DOING THE RIGHT THING BY TIPPING OFF THIS GUY THEN YOU REALLY SHOULD NOT BE A 34 YOURSELF, I WONDER WHAT KIND OF STUFF YOU DO OUT THERE ON THE STREETS THAT ARE CRIMINAL AND UNETHICAL WHEN YOU HAVE THE NERVE TO SAY RON WAS DOING THE RIGHT THING HERE!

Anonymous said...

Ron and Brad gave up vital information to a DRUG DEALER! How can you say that is the right thing? Wake the hell up! Cops are not supposed to cross that line! And you all dog that reserve officer and all I can see is that he actually tried to help the cops and put BAD PEOPLE in jail, not tip them off to a FBI raid. What idiots you people are for buying in to this crap!

Anonymous said...

I truly believe those emails were exactly as that attorney described them, "locker room talk." If those emails were all in 10 code would it be any worse? of course not!

Anonymous said...

Brad protecting his son? Ha! If he was protecting his son that worked there, he would have called him and told him not to go to work, not contact the drug dealer and tip him off that the FBI and APD are currently conducting a drug investigation at his business and they are probably trying to link the drug sales to him. Fire Ron and Brad!

Anonymous said...

There are many unanswered questions to this. A used car dealership engaged in activity where the FBI had legit reason to arrest employees etc... at used dealership ... it is really disgusting to see that APD Officers sworn to uphold the law would compromise a criminal investigation..... In the Daskolos case, the APD Officer I believe was terminated for doing that for a friend.

What if it wasn't the APD's Officer son that was actually going to be the one getting arrested, but another employee and the APD Officer had a low opinion of his son and thought otherwise?

This on top of the reserve officer thing makes me wonder what is going on at SID?

Well I am sure Ray's leadership academy will fix it. Maybe Ray will be the first attendee?

Anonymous said...

If you believe what you read and you try to make sense of it all, it kinda comes out like this:

No matter how cozy there reserve officer was with his superiors, the reserve officer did more to protect the good citizens of Albuquerque than the two crooked cops that aided the drug dealer.

What if David Young who worked in fleet management who expected his Superiors to lie for him and give him 12,000 in addition to his civilian job at Fleet Management, then decided to allow APD Officers to sell their old cars to a used dealership instead of at auction? That would be maybe the reasoning to keep allowing David Young to receive money for work that only an APD sworn officer could do. David Young expected the high ranking APD Officers to lie in exchange or return for falsifying
fleet management documents (just a theory).

The danger from that would be WHO would want to own on old white Caprice with a chrome spot light? Criminals that's who! So, remember the Subway robberies where the bandits took off in a what looked like an old APD car? Remember last year when the City was being sued because fleet management didn't follow proper procedures in removing equipment from cars sold at auction?

If Daivd Young in Fleet Management bent the rules like he did in lying on court documents and police reports that he was a full-time APD Officer, then he was most likely capable of other types of fraud, too!

Anonymous said...

According to the Journal's story on the front page paper on Thursday, (page two) has that David Young from fleet management wrote in an email to Rob Smith the following that Rob Smith should love his fleet manager. That is a very strange and unusual statement to have made. First, why would Rob Smith need to love his fleet manager? If a Fleet Manager is just doing their job, then why would Rob Smith need to love his fleet manager? Second, just how many old undercover detective cars, old white caprices (if any), old APD cars has Rob Smith had exchanged with fleet management? Does David Young go elk hunting? Or, is that some code to refer to a plan to exchange one good for another. Did David Young get paid 12,000 because he loved being a volunteer reserve? David Young didn't and shouldn't have been paid 12,000 for overtime as a police reserve and sign his name as the actual Officer making the case. When David Young wrote in his email to Rob Smith, "Got an elk came home, need overtime, Need a friend to worth with, have anyone in mind? Love your fleet manager," it is strange and unusual to have put to the need to, "love your fleet manager." Did David Young mean that APD Officer Rob Smith should love their arrangement of fleet cars in exchange for 12,000?

Perhaps, the FBI is looking into how fleet management operated and how criminals got ahold of old police cars with equipment on police cars that were not removed because it was involved in a drug operation.

Just a theory.

Why not Hudson, who is involved in a crime(s)?????????? Because he is their friend. Everyone on the dept knows Hudson is an idiot, but they still leave him there. Now, look at all the damage he keeps doing. His division is in the paper everytime you turn around. Yet, Chief Schultz takes no action against him, although he has been told too by other command staff to do something!

To the citizen wondering how to vote, it's simple: Marty is the worst choice, so he's out. That leaves Romero (left of center) or Berry (right of center). Instead of the APD Officers having to make reports about what kind of freebies are given to Officers which is a waste of time.... APD Officers should receive a huge pay increase in salary after signing a waiver that says that he or she wouldn't accept anymore free gifts, dinners, meals, cars, etc.... That way, APD Officers don't have to compensate their low salary with free stuff from area businesses.

If a business or corporation did want to donate free items, meals, autos, then would do so directly to the Department and not the individual APD Officer. That way, the APD as a whole benefits and the APD Officer is free from any appearance of a relationship built on paying off the APD Officer.

Anonymous said...

Ok there are so many illegitimate comments made on this page that i would like to take a second to address some of them.

First of all it's Shawn Bryan not Shane, so when you "look up" info based off the wrong person you will probably be mislead and will basically make yourself look retarded. If this was your goal then congratulations you have succeeded. I have had the pleasure of knowing the Bryan's for a long time and can set the record straight.

Shawn Bryan has never worked for Outback...ever. He has been in the car business for over 20 years now. The only other career he has ever had is that of a United States Marine, which he began at 18 years old and 'voluntarily' re-enlisted the day of the 9/11 attacks on our country. This ladies and gentlemen is what is called patriotism. For any of you to call him or his wife "drug dealers" is deplorable and ludicrous. The only thing that anyone can say Shawn Bryan is guilty of is being a loyal husband, devoted father to five children, supportive friend, hard working small-business owner, and a great American. Oh yeah i guess being a well known advocate of charitable contributions, as well as the founder of the war on terror memorial at veterans park, grounds for drug dealing accusations. "FAIL"

I am going to go ahead and assume that most of the posts on this page are made by 34's. If this is in fact the case then i feel a great sense of panic for the citizens of this city due to lack of investigative skills. Come on people, is it not the job of APD to actually protect the citizens of Albuquerque, or i guess 'to protect and serve' is just false advertising.

It would seem to me that most of what is going on has a lot to do with the upcoming election and a possible power struggle within the ranks. I can't believe that the people we elect and pay our tax payer dollars to would choose to victimize a pillar of our community. I honestly don't know how some people sleep at night.

He came to a neighborhood meet and greet this weekend and when asked about some of these controversial topics, all he did was dance around the answer and gloat about all the good things he's done. Other than the big water project and maybe the trails, he's very out of touch. No eye contact. And insults the people who question him. Lets get some new leadership in this city. One where politics havent corrupted them yet. Vote Berry.

Chavez is out of touch. All he cares about is rubbing elbows with the big wigs. If you're not a big wig, he only wants to get to know ABQ residents around election time. Don't care who you vote for, just not him.

wow,

shane bryan? Uh oh, he's a heavy hitter.

One marine screwing another marine's wife? Weird!!!!!!

Ron olivas sucks! It couldn't happen to a nicer guy, NOT!

dear anonymous who posted on Oct. 3 at 1:17 or should I say: dear Mr. Bryan,

Oh, are you the same shawn bryan that insisted on your purple heart after your HUMVEE accident in Iraq? The same guy who swiped Julia up as soon as you could and used her up? The same guy who sold over priced lemons to your marine buddies? The same guy who doesn't have any friends left from that old reserve unit? The same guy who is a shameless self promotor and will talk to anybody with a camera about your war escapades, but covers your motives as if they were for all your "brothers?"

Never mind, maybe your a different Shawn Bryan. Just forget all that other stuff I wrote, I'm sure your just swell.

THIS IS SPARTA !!!!!!

Thank you, Mr. Bill for that endorsement of Romero. The News Producer from Channel 13 news will be hopefully covering the story tomorrow on the 5:30 pm news. A Saturday Night Live icon blogged about how Marty Farty needs to be voted out of office and endorses Romero for Mayor. What comes to mind is all the negative, national news coverage that all the business, film industry, professional actors and every other profession (including housewives) have read for the last four years on Albuquerque. The most recent being the David Young story that went from East to West coast! Before that a National story
and an America's Most Wanted story about the 11 female skeletons on the West Mesa! There are none to other words to describe corruption.
When a loveable, cute character makes a public blog.... that should say, Albuquerque time to wake up because corruption really is that bad in Albuquerque!

What exactly has gotten a collaboration of writers outraged enough to blog and have Mr. Bill, the cute, adorable Saturday Night Live character stand for democracy in America and the public?

In my opinion, Mayoral corruption. Albuquerque deserves a fresh start!

Go Romero!

Talking to anyone "Mr" Bryan has been associated with shows he's a dirt bag. The truth about this whole story will come out, and the people knocking on his door will be much scarier than Boogie Man.

The problem with you haters is that you cant comprehend someone trying to look out for another 34,trying to keep someones child protected..it does not even compute on this department anymore. This certainly was no conspiracy,no cover up, it exposed some high ranking people as having a "cozy" relationship with a lying thug, and worse...a bad cop with something to hide.Seems to me RO had absolutely nothing to gain..BA had everything to lose. Theres no way RO would evr had covered for a dirty cop or would have 99 percent of this sunken ship Dept had guessed that BA was a bad seed to the point he would be on the crooks side. Not one of you fools has the balls to admit that you would hope someone would attempt to help your child...R keep your head high and know that real 34s know the truth..and many thanks for saving my butt when I was falsely accused as well. GET A NEW MAYOR ELECTED TUESDAY PEOPLE!

What happened to TJ's story on the emails from Capt Joe Hudson and Lt Smith. The Chief comes out and slams these two, saying it was deploring, but yet neither has been placed on leave. Further, Capt Hudson is still over SID, which has had yet another major incident. What about the Golden Boy, Lt O'connel who screwd up that Homocide investion in Los Lunas, We thought he was going to clean up SID. Where was he when the 2nd SID incident broke.

Are you going to do anything Chief, or just let Ron Olivas back into SID. Capt Hudson is doing such a wonderful job in SID, I'm sure you will leave him there too.

Chief, when are you going to get off your Ass and do what the taxpayer's are paying you to do? Uphold the law, not only on the street, but in your own department! Crooks policing crooks.

RO only helped his friends you know hes a brown noser. If you were in trouble or his friend was in trouble you bet he would sell you and save his friend so I guess you were his friend. I to tried to get help and all I got was lip service from him and a bunch of lies. But I can save myself I don't need anyone just sitting there looking and hearing what I am accused of. If you are a good officer and you know the SOP and City Policies you can defend yourself, you dont need a Rep or the President of the APOA. I have done better without their help than with. Just incase you are wondering No letters and No suspensions, No administrative leave No nothing when I defend myself, you should try it, that is if you indeed are falsely accused if not get their help they can make a deal for you. That is if they are your friend.

You hit the nail on the head! Same guy! It is Shawn Bryan and if all you haters care to google him to verify he is a fake hero, DO IT.

He wasn't trying to protect his child. He was trying to protect his childs livelyhood. His child worked for Shawn Bryan, the drug dealer. He tried to save his paycheck. I hope they get fired.

To anonymous at 10:42,

When you become a police officer you are looking out for the communnity. That means you keep your mouth shut on investigations and if another officer or their family member is caught up in something that is their issue not yours. When I worked in SID we had many investigations that either involved officers or their family members and not once did we let anyone know what was going on.

I don't think any of us know what is really going on, but if the targets were tipped off by officers, for any reason, it is a bad sign of what is going on at APD.

If you see any of the city directors on the street corners, dont ask them a questions. They have to get permission to answer first..

It is Shawn. I for one know about him. Yes, he was accused of inappropriate behavior with his daughters from his wife. And then AFTER he came back from overseas (he said he only re-enlisted for the money), he paid her a sum and she quit her accusations. This honorable man also slept with Julia Laskey, while her husband was away serving. He is a snake. Ask anyone in 4th recon. Im assuming the original poster just had a typo, but their information was correct. In terms of Outback, he was passing out his car dealership cards at teh welcome back dinner (the first deployment that he was not involved in). he told many of the females that were there that he OWNED teh restaurant, then he said he was manager. He was making those statements. SO if you have known him for 20 years like you claim, you should know what a piece of shit he is.

Anonymous said...

Ask any of the 4th recon guys, many of them are officers with APD, they will tell you. Ask any of the 4th recon wives, they will tell you what a snake he is and how he would fondle them adn massage them, etc, while their husbands were away. look up nmcourts.com., there were many issues with his ex-wife and his daughters.

I agree. When a Pop Culture American Icon, Mr. Bill from Saturday Night Live has strong words against Marty Farty, then you know that corruption in Albuquerque is really bad.

Anonymous said...

I have seen some sad times in APD, but never, ever, as sad as now. I love my job, I HATE my employer (City of ABQ).

Anonymous said...

Great, right a sketch and submit to Patrick Loner at Saturday Night Live! I'm sure there would be a great venue for most civil servants working in Marty Farty's administration to vent!

Go Romero!

Albuquerque needs someone from the private sector to step in and bring leadership and morale back. Berry is da man! Not the cronyism, nepotism, and egotism we see with the current Mayor (Wizard) of Id. Let him go shovel his own manure, he's spent 12 years manufacturing it at a cost to us, the citizens.

Vote for Berry, or anybody but Marty!

Anonymous said...

I agree SID does keep their investigations confidential. Not now but they had the top detectives in apd in that division. now hudson has destroyed anything that was there and a new mayor will have to rebuild its reputation one detective at a time. no more kiss asses who don't know anything about police work getting a free pass cuz of smith or hudson.

Is hudson ever going to be transferred or continue to destroy apd. Dont know if there is a closet big enuff for him and mccabe's ego.

Anonymous said...

Vote Marty out!

Anonymous said...

Marty Farty's reputation on getting child predators off the streets might be ok, but in reality would anybody else in office not do any better. Afterall, what person in office wouldn't do that? None.

Sociology at UNM on prison systems lists that the average criminal in prison despises child predators, so marty farty's logic on putting child predators behind bars appeals to everybody including the average criminal!

Any Mayor in Office would advocate putting child predators behind bars and none would disagree about that including upstanding citizens.

So, let's not put a check on that because any Mayor worth their own spit would put away a child predator!

The only one innocent here is Brad's son! Imagine how this kid feels finding out his dad was a part of all this?? He's 17 and was probably just excited to have a job. Let's not forget that he's in High School and the minute the shit hits the paper's (after Tues)he's gonna hear it at school. He's the one I feel sorry for.

Anonymous said...

I do not think Hudson is doing that bad of a job. When I was in SID he always took action against the bad apples right away.

Hudson did a hell of a lot better than that neo-nazi Calloway.

I believe before I left, Hudson had moral well above water where Calloway was sinking moral as fast as he could.

Anonymous said...

To the person who said "and the minute the shit hits the paper's (after Tues)he's gonna hear it" I have news for you, We will not read this in the paper. Shawn Bryan, Sheriff White and TJ Whilhelm are all in bed together. If you don't belive me, just go to Capo's restaurant on Lomas and you will see them all eating there together. They are the restaurants best customers.

A story like this will hurt Sheriff White's chances at future jobs. After all isn't cohorting with drug dealers a bad thing?

Anonymous said...

OK BREAKING NEWS HERE! I can not confirm this for sure but I have heard through two reliable sources within APD tonight (monday the 5th) that Ron and Brad have resigned!

Anonymous said...

How ever said Hudson was doing a good job in sid well i work there too and maybe we need to talk. calloway was ok but dont forget about jan she did a good job morale was good. her down fall was mccabe and hudson being friends and lying to her all the time and she bought into it. right now out of the three morale was best with jan. all i can say is i cant wait for hudson to get his walking papers with a new mayor and someone restore our division.

Shawn Bryan is the one who was campaining so hard to save Daniel Guzman's job when he was about to be fired for getting rough with the KOB cameraman. I heard Guzman was an active member of a local "car club" with ties to the drug world.

In my opinion this all makes sense now.

Is the Car Dealership still open? I need to buy a (used) car and I'm thinking maybe they're having a huge clearance sale.

I hear Shawn Bryan and Sheriff White went to Vegas together! No wonder Shawn Bryan has been untouchable so far. Makes sense now.

I've known quite a few solid people who fell for the Shawn Bryan good guy routine, so I won't put a tag on anybody for being friends with the guy, although he truly is a scum bag. I have to give the Sheriff et al the benefit of the doubt vis a vis their friendships with Bryan.
