The Piercing Truth

This is right from the dictionary and seems to describe Albuquerque, Berry and Schultz. Fascism (f ash ,izem) noun An authoritarian right wing system of government and/or social organization. (in general use) extreme right wing, authoritarian, chauvinistic and/or intolerant views or practices. Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one group over another, national, ethnic, especially social strata or monetarily; a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach. 1Out Of 2

Tuesday, Mayor-elect Berry filled two of his top positions - Darren White, Public Safety Director and David Campbell, Chief Administrative Officer.

Sheriff White is a solid pick for Public Safety Director. He was one of APD's own, headed up the New Mexico Department of Public Safety, and is currently in his second and - because of term limits - last term as Sheriff of Bernalillo County.

Currently the position of public safety director is held by Pete Dinelli - a lawyer. It's probably a good idea to have someone who has been a first responder in a position dealing with first response. However, we're not real sure that having a Chief of Chief's position is absolutely necessary - but that's a discussion for another day.

Berry's other pick could be somewhat more problematic. David Campbell - a Democrat - has been a city attorney under the Missing Mayor (Saavedra) and was an assistant to Mayor Kinney. He's worked for both Rs and Ds and therein may lie his problem.

Campbell's back and forth political relationships and mercenary nature may work for a lobbyist or lawyer, but the result is a bunch of folks on both sides of the isle that are none too fond of the CAO to be.

The Chief Administrative Officer requires council confirmation. Right now, the council isn't exactly falling all over itself to endorse Campbell as the new CAO.
Councilor Brad Winter, a Northeast Heights Republican, said he isn't sure Campbell will win enough votes for confirmation. He said he's concerned about Campbell's background as a land-use attorney who's contested city zoning decisions.
Land use issues often end up in front of the council. The council has a history of deciding these cases based on politics (they are a political body after all) and subsequently being overturned by the District Court because they failed to make a decision based on the law. Councilor Cadigan has firsthand experience in these matters.

The point is... attorneys like Campbell don't make a lot of political friends in the process. So, lets take a look at a possible vote with the assumption that the new guys Lewis and Cook will give the mayor what he wants.

For years, Campbell has represented eeeevil developers. Forget about O'Malley, Benton, and Garduno and our Eyes tell us that Councilor Sanchez is no fan. That leaves Harris and Jones. Jones appointed Campbell to the Charter Review Task Force, so we have our first definite yes. Harris could go either way. But let's assume that since he's worked with Representative Berry for the last few years, he gives the new mayor what he wants.

That's a 4 to 4 tie with Winter in the middle and Winter has already indicated that he is "concerned" about Campbell. Frankly, there's an even chance that Harris won't vote in favor of Campbell. There are simply more scenarios where Campbell ends up not becoming Ed Adam's replacement than there are scenarios where he does.

Mayor-elect Berry will get his public safety director. It's far less likely that he will get his first choice for CAO. In fact, Campbell better get back on the line with Obama and see if that Foreign Service gig is still available.

First off:
Big disagreement with Public Safety pick "Eye".
As a member of the rank and file, this could not have come at a worse time. Darren IS NOT, repeat, IS NOT what Albuquerque needs or deserves. He's a moma's boy slick little willy that will ruin this new Mayor and drive the morale even lower that it was. Darren will keep Ray in Power(job) somewhere.
Does the Republican Party owe him? Was RJ Berry given orders to take care of him after his last minute endorsement? Afterall he was firmly seated side by side with Ray in Marty's camp. Now Mr. "No committment" is firmly in charge of the Berry administration. After his miserable defeat at the hands of weakling ('Alfalfa")Congressman Heinrick, he sits feasting on the work provided for him by some that set the table. The majority of APD cast their vote for RJ Berry, with a promise to clean up city government, take charge and rid the sesspool on the fifth floor of all the vermin. Instead he appoints the Republican's biggest kiss ass, while eating out of both sides of the trough. Sorry "Eye" this is a bad choice, bad for Albuquerque and a colosal mistake for this administration.

WTF !!!!
David Campbell? Are we throwing darts here?
Darren White? I know this pick was a little more thought out.
We picked names out of a hat, with Darrens name on a piece of paper stuck to the bottom. Wink ! wink !
This appointment may fool the public but not those who know or worked with him.
This is a major hose job to the department.
Thanks Mr Berry, our vote really counted this time.

And now we know who the EYE is! Darren you have done a great job of promoting yourself once again! I bet this doesn't get posted. Darren the only thing you bring to the table is a self serving attitude!

Behind the scenes look at David Campbell. (In my opinion).

David Campbell and RJ Berry worked closely on a real estate/construction site where RJ Berry got to know David. Despite, David being a Democrat and RJ Berry a Republican, there was a decent working relationship.

Hey! As long as David Campbell isn't standing in bank lines ordering pizza waiting for bank robberies to rob the bank yelling out, "Shoot me in the ass," to collect intentional infliction of emotional harm and other monies from the bank insurance... he is alright. Don't do it! The difference between Iraqi insurgents/rebels and American bank robberies is that Americans can negotiate with the bank robber. The Iraqi rebel is just unamerican and won't negotiate. Ok, maybe there will be an American bandit influence someday on the Iraqi rebels. Ok, David Campbell if the job in the City doesn't pan out, then head to the State Department to be a quasi bandit American diplomat.
(bandit only if you get caught).

The odds of people winning the lottery are what? The odds of people standing inside a bank waiting for a bank robber to direct the bank robber "in the ass," just to collect intentional infliction of emotional harm money and other monies is greater.

Oh this is rich. Our first Republican mayor in what, 28 years' first appointment is none other than an Obama liberal socialistic idealog. Conservatives must be all a tither over this selection. Good vetting, now try to get him confirmed. In fact he was being ordered by Chairman Mao, I mean Obama to report to duty in the Foriegn Service in the next couple of days. When all of a sudden he makes that last minute indorsement of a Republican to save himself from the service of his master and god, Barrack Obama.
Hmm... Can anyone say "The Sound of Music" or say uh, "Dr. Zhivago.
See the similarities? Both main characters in these films were escaping the clutches of their unfortunate circumstances; one being Hitler the other being Stalin.
Just yell out " I endorse thee" to this new mayor and you've got freedom and a 6 figure job.
Our fearless sheriff got in on that action as well. Johnnie come latley, said good bye to Marty faster than Sunday's paper hit his doorstep showing recent poll numbers and got HIS $45,000 increase in pay over night.

Anonymous said...

Excuse me but didin't Marty just make up that job( Dir. of Public Safety) four years ago just to give Nick Backass a job? Or a place to stick him? And what about old 'Deputy Dog" Joe Bowdich who sleeps most of the day in a position called ahhh, "Civilian Executive Assistant Chief" or some such shit?
I thought we were going to run City hall like a business?
Some business. Both these positions are costing the taxpayers almost a quarter million dollars a year. They should both be eliminated.

The Brad Blog is at it again. First, the eye did not hit Brad for donating to Comrade Cadigan's campaign for reelection. Now it is siding with Brad when he attacks the first Republican Mayors major decision. He is siding with the liberal wing of the Council when he hit Campbell.

Jones appointed Campbell to the Charter Review Task Force, so I am certain she supports Berry's pick for CAO. The two new Republicans do not know him, so I am sure they support Berry's pick. Harris was not with Brad shooting at Berry in the paper, so I would bet he does not have a problem.

Who does that leave? The four Democrats plus Brad must be the 5 votes Brad counts when he said, Campbell does not have the votes.

Brad, the Eye, and the Democrats are trying to take the legs out from under our first Republican Mayor in almost 30 years.

Berry must govern from the middle or he will not win in 2013. Give Berry the benefit of the doubt. Let him set up an administration.

I do wonder if Winter is pissed. He lost to Chavez and now he is fight with the person who won. I hope Winter's first quotes in the press are not an indication of future actions with Berry. We have a majority if Winter sticks with us.

Anonymous said...

Here is what is lacking in RJ Berry. Berry's own wife owns her own construction company, too. That would have given hope that RJ Berry wouldn't appoint all men to fill the Director positions. So far, only one female and all the rest men! Let's hope that Berry's new upcoming picks include the gender that tends to earn 60% to every 1.00 a man makes!

Anonymous said...

So what's the rush in these two appointments?
What's the motive here?
People are asking the same with Obama shoving his health care down our throats so fast even though it doesn't take affect till 2013.
Same thing here. We understand the reason in Campbell's case. ( he didn't get the right assignment or resort in Obama's list of hell holes)
In the case of Public Safety Director,(joke)Darren needed to implant himself firmly in charge before his boy Ray got torpedoed.
They have secured the border, plugged the dike and this new mayor won't have a clue what's been happening up on the fifth floor over the last four years.
He won't in the next 4 either.

David Campbell is a partisan Democrat. There is no arguing his record.

-David Campbell sued to overturn the Concealed Carry Law. He took the case pro-bono, because he is such a liberal ideologue -- it would be easier to swallow if he was being paid to attack the 2nd amendment. He was quoted as saying the law would lead to children being killed.

-Campbell ran for Congress in 1998 when Steve Schiff passed away. He withdrew from the race when the Democrats recruited Maloof. He also ran for state representative, talked about running for mayor, and tried to get appointed to Greg Payne's seat in 2005, when he took the job at transition. He clearly has political aspirations -- as a Democrat.

-Campbell sued to throw-out the run-off system in 1997 for Baca. That led to a Baca victory and Campbell was rewarded by being put on his transition team.

-He has contributed thousands of dollars to Democrats like Jim Baca, Diane Denish, and Bill Richardson, including giving Heinrich a grand just a few months ago. What does Jon Barela think of this appointment?

I strongly supported Berry for Mayor. It's very disappointing that he just put a partisan Democrat in charge of City Hall. If the new Republican councilors vote to confirm this Democrat, the party should cease to exist.

Before you welcome Darren with open arms, talk to the NMSP officers that were around when he was DPS Chief. Without Sal B. he can't manage to get dressed by himself. You can expect Sal to be in a very good position so he can stay close to Darren. And you can expect things to stay the same as they continue to cover for Ray Boy!

Save this post and a year from now you'll see what I'm talking about!!

If it wasn't for Paul Heh Barry wouldn't have the PD vote. Why is Darren trashing Paul??

Berry HAS to play nice and appoint some Ds, not all Rs which would make him hugely unpopular with the voters as well as with the council. Give the man some credit. As of right now he has no political axe to grind and is not familiar with the road that lies ahead of him vis a vis running a politically driven governmental organization. I think his police chief appointment is the big news we are all waiting for.

The prediction on this post is wrong. The vote will be 6 to 3 or 9 to 0 to approve the new CAO. If it is 6 to 3, O,Malley, Garduno, and Benton vote no. If one liberal flips, they all flip.

I do not understand how a person can call Campbell a partisanwhen the liberal dems do not like him.

I don't know why any of you presume the progressives on the Council won't confirm Campbell. I predict the confirmation will be unanimous, actually. Berry's a new mayor, and they'll let him pick his CAO. The progressives have no axe to grind with Berry. Yet. Either he'll be another Chavez in how he deals with the Council, or not. Only time will tell. Until then, he'll be given the benefit of the doubt.

Darren White doesn't know what the 4th amendment says. It doesn't say you can't stop or seize someone. It does give the rule how to acquire a search warrant BEFORE one can do so. An officer needs to particularly describe the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized before a judge can give the go-ahead orders. Darren White is a bad candidate for anyone's public safety!

Yeah, thanks alot for helping rid the streets of drunk drivers. He stands up for his 34's, even the ones that stab him in the back. that's more than alot of sgt, or even capt's for that matter will do. He isn't afraid to call things as they are, and call people out, even when it means getting buried under and IA investigation. This city could be a great place to live, raise children etc, if it weren't for all the hate for one another in government. Is it always about furthering your own financial goals? Is it always about looking out for number one?
Apparently...
Is it any wonder why the crime is so high, when all that matters is greed, covering your ass and corruption?
Other cities actually have posted on their web site 10 page "Code of Ethics and behavior" policies.
Where's the City of Albuquerque's?
We have no such thing.
Is it any wonder that even in the most important election in many years, all we can muster is 20% of the citizenry to get out and vote?
I rest my case. Deal with it. Live with it Albuquerque. No matter what side of the fense, the same 'ole people of influence are in charge. Give others a chance with fresh new approaches and ideas.
Some in power have climbed to the top by srewing over their friends, their families and businesses, but in the end they seem to perpetuate and secure recognition of their peers. I don't understand that.
Loyalty means nothing because the body politic is just as ethically and morally deficient as the candidates.
You must constantly ask yourself these questions:
Who am I around? Where do they have me going? What do they have me thinking? What do they have me saying? And most important, what do they have me becoming?
Then ask yourself the big question:
IS THAT OKAY?
So lets congratulate one another; "Good for you Albuquerque"
Things will never change until the ones in power get a set of morals.
You all know who you are.

cave-man refering to Paul Heh, this tells me that when heh became a police officer he did so because he wanted to, not because of pay etc. like most of the apd is there for. When he became an officer the pay was not much, and he probably did a lot more police work back then when an officer was doing it all, no special units to hand things over to etc.. so I will say that paul heh has probably done more police work that the rest of you that came on board for the money....

While I do not agree with some of the tactics Paul Heh uses to find his drunk drivers. I will say that I respect him. He stands up for what he believes in. He is a cops cop for the most part. Everyone has there pet peeves but I know he takes care of his own. Which is all we can ask for. Now I dont want this to lead to he covers up crimes because that doesn't happen. You have to respect that fact that you know where you stand with him and where he stands on an issue. It takes courage to stand up to the administration. Often times the officers who stand up for what they believe in are ridiculed by their co workers. Why this occurs I will never know. They had more courage as does he than most others ever will. If you don't like him then tell him rather than post here. If you dont like people who stand up for themselves tell them. But wait you would rather conform to the norms, even if they are wrong, than stand up for yourself. Rules are rules and the administration so often does not follow them but who puts them in check. Often times we have to got the media, the labor board, courts to force our administration to follow the rules.
