Let’s Lie to the City Council and the Public

Back on August 7, 2013, we reported to you (READ IT HERE) how the new Interim Chief of Police, Allen Banks, started his new position by lying to the City Council.  Banks was asked by City Councilor, Ken Sanchez, about the Gang Unit. Banks lied and told the Council the Gang Unit was not disbanded but members were “placed” in other units. Well, this was a lie and here is more proof to show it was a lie.

 Here is an excerpt from the Eye’s story:

“Councilor Ken Sanchez stated to Banks that he understood that the APD Gang Unit was disbanded in APD. Sanchez then asked Interim Chief Banks if this was true. Banks replied, “No,” the unit has not been disbanded but the officers assigned to the gang unit have been “placed” in other units…”

The comparison is asking someone to do something and they reply, "Yes, I won't."

Recently the memo below was circulated by APD. Now you can read it and decide if Banks disbanded the original unit and is now trying to reformulate a new unit or he is now wasting time and money duplicating the same position that Banks claims still exists.

Or does this mean that gangs are out of control in Albuquerque and Failed Mayor Berry has failed again to disclose the danger to the public? Or is it all of the above?

If you’re tired of Albuquerque being the worst of the worst under the current failed leadership; the time has come to VOTE this administration OUT!

Did anyone notice who this memo says “the” Chief of Police is? It says, Raymond D. Schultz.  Right after Martin Luther King Day and Banks is being treated like a second class citizen. Although, we recognize there is no official date on the memo; we are still waiting for the real chief of police to step forward...

Fire Department is "Burning" Ken Sanchez

Below is an open email to the Eye On Albuquerque. At the request of the author, this email content is being posted.

"Since 2008 Ken Sanchez has been pushing for a new fire station and west side ladder. His wish finally was coming true until the Fire Chief decided to change the plans after the council approved the new fire station, which is currently under construction and being built for a ladder company, and now wants to place the ladder at Fire Station 17 which is near Coors and Sequoia. The new ladder truck was to better serve the near Westside and SW area as there is already a ladder by Cibola High School. It is true that a temporary ladder is going to be located at Station 17 from July 1st until Fire Station 7 is complete but Chief Breen sold the public on the fact that he needed a new 2+ million dollar fire station to house a Westside ladder company How is it that these public officials can ask for millions of dollars for stations, staffing and apparatus and then change their mind with no recourse?"

Sanchez had shown some promise to succeed our current discombobulated Mayor, but that promise has been washed away by a shy introverted Councilman. The citizens of Albuquerque deserve better. Sanchez talks a tough talk (sometimes) but doesn't back it up. Kudos to Chief Breen for exerting control (burning Sanchez). By the same token, shame on Ken Sanchez who has fizzled out before the mayoral race has even begun.

The Straw that Broke the Mayor's Back?

Was last night's embarassing and unprofessional behavior of Chief Ray Schultz, finally the straw that broke the camel's back? There was a City Council meeting last night. The usual "frequent flyers" were there, some to speak, others to observe. Prior to the meeting beginning, as it happens every meeting, many people (including Chief Schultz), meander about before taking to their seats. Kenneth Ellis, the father of one of those killed by APD, contacted us after last night's meeting. Mr. Ellis told us that at the meeting, he walked up to Chief Schultz and told the Chief that he was "praying for him". Mr. Ellis admits he ended with "you'll need it". The meeting started and was filled with many citizens giving their comments and stating their opinions. One subject was a student that talked for over 7 minutes about his inability to attend school without a free bus pass. Other people talked about the conservation of energy. Then former APD Sergeant, Paul Heh, approached the podium. Three people had vowed to relinguish their talk time in order to allow Paul Heh to fully talk to the City Council and citizens of Albuquerque. This has been a long standing past practice of the City Council; allowing those people that have a somewhat complicated matter to be able to adequately and fairly voice their concerns and comments. Right away Council President, Don Harris, announced he would not let anyone relinguish their time and demanded Paul Heh keep to a two minute time constraint. Council Member Ken Sanchez made a motion to override President Harris and allow the time for Paul Heh. He wanted to hear what Paul Heh had to say. The Motion was given a second nomination and of course when set to a council vote, the result was 4-5. This forced Paul Heh to stop midstream and NOT speak any further. It was clearly no coincidence that it was the Republican council members that voted AGAINST hearing Paul Heh speak. It was obvious by the actions of the Council that this was a premediated vote on behalf of the Republicans. Despite the crowd's pleas to continue, Paul Heh was forced to walk back to his seat. What were they afraid of hearing? What were they afraid of the public hearing? Paul Heh walked back to his seat and at intermission, Mr. Ellis approached him. This is where it gets even more exciting, as Mr. Ellis and Paul Heh were talking, Chief Schultz walked up to them and shook his finger at Mr. Ellis. Chief Schultz stated "Don't you ever approach me at a meeting again and say what you said to me". Mr. Ellis told the Eye that he felt threatened and was even afraid to walk to his car. Why would Chief Schultz be so angry that someone has offerred their prayers to him? In fact, doesn't the APD chaplain unit advocate daily prayers to the officers of APD? Our Eyes wonder what the Chief would have done if an officer had acted in the same manner. Our bet is that the officer would be shoveling papers in Report Review or answering phones at a substation. This is the definition of "Conducting Unbecoming" if ever there has been one. Does the Chief need remedial C.I.T. training? IF one comment like "Im going to pray for you", sets him off like that, what else will set him off? Chief Schultz, where is your higher standard? You know, the higher standard you demand your officers live up to or face immediate discipline. To you Mayor Berry, when will you see the liability that Chief Schultz is causing you? He is a time bomb and he is ready to explode, are you Mayor Berry prepared to write the check for the violations that he continues to exhibit?

Councilors Sanchez and O’Malley Seek to Correct “A Berry Bad Mistake”

Councilors Ken Sanchez and Debbie O’Malley are considering introducing legislation to overturn the Mayor’s law, which prohibits police officers who live “Magically” eleven miles from the Big-I. Several people who attended one of the Council meetings were seen wearing T-shirts that said, “A Berry Bad Mistake.”

According to the Police Union,Public Safety Director, Darren White is the Mayor’s “Hatch Man” and spearheaded the new take home car policy. White has been under fire for several decisions that the Union claims were bad ones. White was also scrutinized for him and his wife’s alleged involvement with the Brad Ahrensfield’s Federal case. Ahrensfield was facing federal criminal charges for obstruction of justice. Ahrensfield, who was a police officer at the time, is accused of tipping off his friend who was also the target of a criminal investigation. White and his wife also appear to have direct ties to this investigation.

Both Sanchez and O’Malley made an unsuccessful bid for Mayor against Berry. Positive moves in the right direction, such as backing “Albuquerque’s Finest” could easily open the door for either to become Mayor and lead the City. Both seem to have good common sense. It’s probably a bad idea to attack our front-line public safety personnel; Thus, making “A Berry Bad Mistake!”

If you're looking at the wall Mayor, “A Berry Bad Mistake” could spell the end of a possible second bid for Mayor. The disdain with Mayor Berry is becoming bipartisan. Wake up Mayor Berry; the writing is becoming permanent on the wall.

Scam-era Scammers

As you all know by now Monday night saw the defeat of relief from governmental intrusion and tyranny. The Albuquerque City Council overwhelming voted to uphold the Almighty Alcalde's veto of Council President Brad Winter's bill to suspend scam-era operations at least until the mayoral task farce presents its report.

Everyone knows what the task farce will return, but it'd be nice for a change if our city government would err on the side of freedom and justice rather than on the side of "excess money."

"During the holiday season, I ask that we reflect on what matters most, the safety of our loved ones," Chávez said in a one-page message to the council. "Virtually no one argues that this technology is not effective in catching violators. Do we really want red light runners and school zone speeders to be given a free pass this holiday season and into the school year?"

Really... since when is there a school zone on I-25 and isn't school out for the non-religious, non-threatening, barely Winter break anyway? Besides, when we reflect on our loved ones we're concerned about their safety, but we're even more concerned about their liberty; something that a majority of the council and the Almighty Marty "Hugo" Chavez seem to care little about.

To that end, we thought we'd post who is most responsible for the continuation of the scam. We have decided that these Scam-era Scammers, those people most responsible for the continuation of the red light con will be posted permanently on this website - starting with this post.

Martin J. Chavez
The Scammer in Chief, defender of the con, whose absolute faith in the infallibility of the Redflex system has cost us a bunch of cash and him a shot at the U.S. Senate.

The mayor has even tried to tell us that the system isn't turning a profit, characterizing the red light largess as "excess money." Now he's using the oldest scare tactic in the world to keep us pumping cash into city coffers citing school zone speeders as scam-era justification.

Ray Schultz - APD Chief of Police
The Chief brought the scam from his previous job in Scottsdale, Arizona. Schultz continues to support the Redflex program as if he were a stock holder often confusing his job as chief with that of a scam-era lobbyist.



Ken Sanchez - Councilor District 1
Councilor Sanchez was famously not present during the 1st scam-era moratorium vote. We don't think it would be any different than this vote as the councilor can only be characterized as being in Marty's pocket. After all Sanchez served as the mayor's treasurer until being convinced to run for council.


Debbie O'Malley - Councilor District 2
At least O'Malley is consistent in her support of the scam, but that's about all I can say for a councilor who feels that fleecing the public through scam-eras is a good idea.



Isaac Benton - Councilor District 3
Councilor Benton is consistently neo-socialist preferring government run transportation and government dictated development. It comes as no surprise that the councilor would support enriching the government while limiting the rights of everyday citizens.


Rey Garduño - Councilor District 6
We were pleasantly surprised by Garduño's initial support of the scam-era moratorium. Of course, the councilor we dubbed "Sticky Fingers" during the last election flipped his vote and flopped when it came to keeping the city's hands out of our pockets.

Sally Mayer - Councilor District 7
What more do we have to say... despite her seeming support of Councilor Winter when the Marty was caught balancing the budget with scam money, The Mayer failed the sniff test herself when it came time to protect our due process rights.



Trudy Jones - Councilor District 8
Councilor Jones got a mulligan from us when she missed this vote (and her first council meeting) in favor of participating in the Capo's tantrum. This time she showed up and failed the test.



Don Harris - Councilor District 9
We really can't figure Harris out. He complains about being sold out to the "liberals" and then sides with all of them to keep the scam-era cash coming.




All of the officials listed above need to be remembered. They have by their own actions supported expanding the administrative authority of the city while doing little to protect our freedoms.
