Payroll Pandemonium

Yesterday's tardy payment followed by a double payment by the city to its over 2000 employees who have signed up for direct deposit is snowballing into a real mess. In addition to employees being paid later than usual, some checks are missing overtime while others include overtime but at the wrong rate, while still others have incorrect or inexplicable overtime hours. In addition, most checks are missing holiday pay.

Our Eyes tell us that city employees are understandably in a bit of an uproar over the whole debacle. Monday should make for an interesting day for the city's Tanda Meadors, as we hear that a number of city employees plan to pay her department a visit.

The Journal reported today that "the city is already correcting the double deposits (ABQ Journal - Subscription)." If you're a city employee, keep an eye on your bank accounts. If the new city software can screw up the deposits, it stands to reason that they can screw up the withdrawals.

They really know how to pis off their employees! I worked my ass off for OT and wasn't paid for any of it. I spoke with payroll and their response was that I would have to wait until next payroll to be paid. So in the mean time, checks are going to bounce, payments won't be made and it will be my fault. Nice one City!!!!

Yep! I watched as paycheck was deposited into my account, so I though "cool", no probl., then just as it appeared, it disappeared and the city took it back. Then it was re-deposited so I paid my bills. If it goes away again, I'm in deep _____! This happens I think it's the third time for me in 8 years!

Keep track of ALL your statements, track them online daily if you can and save copies.

I hope the lesson all of you learn is to start saving some money so if this happens you don't get overdrafted.

Don't get me wrong, the city should not have screwed this up. But people are human and bad things are going to happen.

Take responsibility for your own money and make sure you have 3 to 6 months of savings, in the bank to cover these things.

Please no whining about how you can't save etc etc. No one wants to hear it. Figure it out so that you protect yourself from the next screw up.

you don't pay bills and spend money when you don't have it in the bank account. and the direct deposit people are lucky because they are given their money a day early. you know your paydays are every other FRIDAY don't you? Don't get me wrong, the city totally screwed up on this, double deposits, miscalculations, money being taken out for something and ending up who knows where, but seriously, who spends money that's not in their account? unless you have auto bill pay, ok, sure. Oh and when you work say 8 hrs of OT and you take a day or two off, you don't get paid OT people! get a clue!
