Maybe it’s just our imaginations, but isn’t the City of Albuquerque deep in “Red Ink?” Well, take a look at this “Earnings Report” and you may find yourself upset and angered.
Our Eyes have obtained a report that shows some of the top wage earners in the City and they aren’t shy about it or even ashamed of what they are making. The following is the earnings report for the Mayor and CAO offices taken from the City's transparency web site. The report covers the "calendar year" proceeding the last pay day. The City's last pay day was January 14, 2011, therefore the wages reflected as paid, are from January 14, 2010 to January 14, 2011. Note: The report does NOT reflect vacation time accrued and sick leave time accrued; if such time is NOT used it can be cashed out when the employee leaves under certain circumstances.

According to the report, Campbell was paid $168,246.40 for the year, White was paid $132,272.00 for the year, Sally Mayer was paid $36,193.00 for the year. NOTE: Chris Ramirez on the report is listed as "Christopher Huffman" and he was paid $79, 564.00 as PIO. TJ Wilham was also paid $79, 564.00 to be White's PIO. White and Wilham both have take home cars which must be declared as income. Tito Madrid and Sal Baragiola are both "double dippers." Sal Baragiola was Darren White’s Undersheriff while White was the Bernalillo County Sheriff. If the Mayor's staff salaries were in fact reduced by the reported 3% like other personnel, the reduction would have occurred July 1, 2010. The take home cars are considered a dollar benefits but are not reported as income in this report.
It seems as though there was uproar over what David Campbell was initially paid, $159,000.00 ($15,000 more than the previous COA, ED Adams). Now we learn he’s being paid almost $170,000.00 a year (17% increase) plus a car (another estimated $12,000 worth as a benefit).
Also, starring in this fleecing is Darren White, at $132,272.00, up from $125,000.00 (6% increase) and his PIO, (Public Safety Comm. Director, TJ Wilham, almost $80,000.00, up from $74,000.00 (8% increase) and Darren’s secretary who is rumored at around $59,000.00. We can’t forget Sal Barigiola who is “double dipping” pulling him in his retirement and a whooping $69,448.00!
That’s $292,000 between White, Ramirez, and Wilham. If you include the rest of White’s “household” (Barigiola and White’s secretary) which he kept in tow when he arrived at the City, comes to a total of $421,000.00. Ask yourself this question; are they needed?
Darren’s position was supposed to be eliminated after Pete Dinelli was given the boot. Therefore, White’s and Wilham’s personal secretary, Erin Kinnard Thompson, would not be needed either. Many of these positions have salaries that are bloated. Example; two positions directly under the Mayor are being paid $63,000.00 and $84,000.00. Sarah Lister is being paid twice as much as her predecessor Scott Forrester under Marty Chavez who makes $35,000.00. Lister was a campaign volunteer and part time analyst who now makes $84,000.00.
There are others such as Gilbert Montano, Council Liaison (Councilor Sally Mayer’s former assistant) at $71,000.00 and of course Constituent Service Rep. Sally Mayer at $36,000.00.
Roberto Albertorio Chief Admin. Hearing Officer $115,000 and Anita Reina Admin. Hearing Officer, $83,000. Both of these manage and monitor your ‘Red Light’ kangaroo court.
Nobody can say what exactly they do, as the ‘Red Light’ court already has a slew of other hearing officers conducting courtroom business. It is suggested that Roberto’s expertise is in zoning not the red light camera scheme.
Let’s not forget City Attorney Rob Perry, who makes $130,000.00, $20,000.00 more than his predecessor Bob White (18% increase).
The rest are a combination of political favors and payback positions, most of which have no qualifications to hold such positions. Noted, that one position, that of Constituent Services Representative held by Former City Councilor, Sally Mayer, seems a bit below par salary and hardly enough to exist at $36,000.00. Hard pill to swallow considering that her former assistant is now making over twice as much.
With a city that has budget woes in the tens of millions, one has to wonder just what our City leaders are thinking. This is clearly fleecing and pillaging the taxpayer in our opinion.
This folks is a disgrace. These salaries are too high, the competence of most is too low and the taxpayer is made the fool. Why hasn’t our fine upstanding Mayor followed suit behind our Honorable Governor Martinez and cap salaries at $125,000.00? Our financial problems are that bad. I am sure that the City of Albuquerque has lobbyist up in Santa-Fe crying about how the City needs more money. Were the 3% are across the board cuts? Where are the bigger cuts for the upper management? Why is APD’s rank and file the only target of budget cuts, loss in incentives and manhandled by the most unscrupulous dictator in recent memory.
Why isn’t the news media addressing these important issues, when the City is in the worst economic condition ever?
Here is some interesting data from the City’s web site. According to the City’s most recent information, the medium household income (2007) for a citizen of Albuquerque is $43,667.00. Mayor Berry, maybe you or someone from your staff can now explain to the taxpaying citizens why or how Campbell is worth nearly four times as much as the rest of the citizenry; why or how is White worth three times more than the rest of our citizenry? Or why or how Wilham or Ramirez (Huffman) is worth nearly twice the rest of our citizenry? The citizens are growing tied of such treachery.

The biggest and most perplexing question is; why is Mayor Berry failing to be a “good steward of our tax dollars?” Mayor Berry is going to be forced to wake up one day and face his responsibilities and be accountable for the devastation that he has allowed. Think out of the Box Mayor Berry set a salary cap like the Honorable Governor, Susana Martinez. Eliminate many of those un-needed positions and allow our seasoned Chief of Police, Ray Schultz, to run public safety. APD already has the infrastructure to handle critical incidences and make command decisions. As well as, several PIO’s on all shifts and the option of activating the Emergency Operations Center. The fleecing has to stop.

Of course the DMD Sgts all got a raise, they found out that the favored LT's "partner" was getting paid more than the rest of them...even though she is a junior SGT, not qualified, or capable of doing her job, and is responsible for the mess that is swing shift...the Lt. and the Sgt should 1, both be fired for shady dealings in hiring her girlfriend/partner, 2, being a direct supervisor of her girlfriend/partner, and 3, hiring someone who had no qualifications for the job she now holds, especially when there were other applicants that were much better qualified.
If you watch her on her shift, she spends most of her time in the office, on the internet, smoozing with her "partner", or conducting personal business. If she does visit the posts, its to harass the officers, any one of whom know their jobs better than she does. But then what can you expect from a dept that is run by Mark Shepherd, (lied about several things on his application, was hired anyway, was caught and the city was sued, and yet he's still there, double dipping.) And Berry, who was supposed to be cleaning up Marty's messes? Let him stay....hell he's paid more than almost everyone else on the list. And this is a guy with a proven background of lying. Yep, meet the new boss, the same as the old boss...

Double dipping is cronyism, whether it is at City Hall or the Police Department and Mayor Berry needs to give these four an ultimatium and start doing what is right for the citizens.

Hey I heard that one of the retirees from DMD even got a plaque that had Mark Shepherd's name misspelled, and two days after it arrived, the badge FELL OFF. Ordered by one of the Lt.'s making all the big bucks, and yet too stupid to even spell the bosses' name. LOL, yep, 25 years with the city, and the only thing you get is a bad taste in your mouth, and a broken plaque. And not even the benefit of a reach around.
Brad Ahrensfield here; in Pennsylvania dealing with some family issues, but trying to keep up with what is goin on. I'm shocked at Sue Stephens response!!! If that isn't a pile of CRAP I dont know what is. Tera Neda stood up in my first trial and disclosed 12 and 13 year old cases from internal affairs that that (1) had no bearing on the case (2) were entirely false- the cases were exonerated, but Tera Neda lied and stated they were sustained (3) was a violation of supreme court case law Garrity.
Buuuut who reported on them like they were fact and put them on their website and in turn all over the internet, which friends of mine in Pennsylvania saw and then called my parents in Virginia who had no idea I was going through a trial! CHANNEL 7 CHANNEL 13!!! Then Sue has the nerve to say the motions right now are hearsay????? What about Tera Neda's previous Prosecution violations? Thats not hearsay thats public record in fact! What about the fact that discovery wasn't turned over to us,for whatever reason? That's not hearsay that's fact! What about the Lab report not being turned over to us for whatever reason? That's not hearsay that's fact! What about her irresponsible reporting that Shawn Bryan was a drug dealer, there has never been an accusation or charge of that by the government,,,but that's what you reported TALK ABOUT HEARSAY! A friend in TV in another state suggest contacting every reporter at every station and offering to tell this story. Their advice is you should keep knocking on every news door in town. Pick one to start and offer an exclusive. Have you guys been doing this? Who have you talked with in the press??

Brad Ahrensfield here: To outreach, yes I have contacted everyone, within minutes of me receiving motions, I send them to individual members of the media, The day I found out my father passed away I called Jeremy Jojola on his cell phone, only, never to received as much as a text message in return. I have personally sent motions and messages to Stuart Dyson, Larry Barker, and Jeff Proctor,,,no response, I know from a very good source Anna Velasquez was writing a story till her news director walked to her desk pulled it and told her to work on something else. Abby Roeddel from channel 4 was doing the most reporting but I can no longer find her name or email address on the directory at channel 4. I know some nameless persons at 770 KOB was inetrested but due to the fact that Darren White works there thought it might cause some unwanted tension. I have tried to get word to Buck and Dex through a friend but to no avail. We know for 100% fact that KOAT and KRQE posted a story then retracted it within an hour then denied its very existance. I have sent copies and messages to Katie Couric, and several other news personalities, I apologize I am on the east coast and do not have my notes with me. I am in contact with Brad Heath from USATODAY who is doing an ongoing series on Prosecution Misconduct of which they are familiar with AUSA Tera Neda and her patterned history of ethical violations, ie;they list only three New Mexico cases one of which is USA vs Torres. Tera Neda is the prosecutor and she sent Torres to prison for TWO years before it was discoverd she did the same thing to him she did to me(WITHHELD KEY DISCOVERY)!! The sentence was vacated by 10th circuit and he was released from prison-two years he will never get back!!! But Susan Stephens News Director for KOAT must feel this is only hearsay as is District Judge Hansen's vacated sentence and Opinion on Tera Neda ref another case that we mentioned from TEN years ago!! Hearsay as well I guess for the uninterested News Director at KOAT! Buuuut if this was a New Mexico Police Officer or Sheriff that was the victim of a baseless accusation without a shred of truth, it would be all over the news and that Officer or Sheriff would then have to fight to clear their own name without any recourse against these News Professionals! The US Atty Ken Gonzales has tried twice to seal these motions,,,WHY???? So you the citizens of Albuquerque would be Nun the wiser to what really goes on in the office of the US ATTORNEY! Buckner's paperwork, I guarantee that there are copies in the Intell Office. Nothing ever vanishes. There are original intell reports too. All those reports can be turned over with an order from a Judge don't fool yourself. If you are, think Klunk.
The only stories the media wants are the stories that they can guarantee will not make them look foolish if they go with the "scoop". Since this involves Darren White and hence, the Mayor of Albuquerque, they have a lot to lose if this story falls apart. In other words, they're gutless about running with this story. Brad you may want to look into the possibility of the Alibi or a similar small newspaper as a way to get this story out, and who knows if something comes of it, they're the ones that would get the "scoop" and make the local mainstream media look bad.
Eye, please don't forget the only Employee who was laid off; with out warning. Carlos Dominguez at the Fire Dept. Yes he was a double dipper, but do the layoff right. It seems the Mayors office is now trying to back track and find him a new job. LAW SUIT! Great Job Berry!
