The Piercing Truth

This is right from the dictionary and seems to describe Albuquerque, Berry and Schultz. Fascism (f ash ,izem) noun An authoritarian right wing system of government and/or social organization. (in general use) extreme right wing, authoritarian, chauvinistic and/or intolerant views or practices. Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one group over another, national, ethnic, especially social strata or monetarily; a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach. The Honorable City Council President, Ken Sanchez, Apparently Believes in Honor

Albuquerque’s Public Safety Director, Darren White's truthfulness has come under fire recently, particularly after the January 3rd city council meeting where city councilor members did not understand why White said one thing to them, and another to the Police Department. White spearheaded the new take home car policy which removed vehicles from approximately 180 loyal, seasoned police officers. The vehicles were removed from sworn officers. It seemed no one understood his reasoning or his antics. Meeting after meeting, one man stood by the officers, stood by public safety; that man is the Honorable City Council President, Ken Sanchez. He was vocal about his views and remained open-minded throughout this entire ordeal. President Sanchez was never ashamed for his continued support of the officers and the public’s interest. In fact, President Sanchez went to the APOA Union Meeting held on January 20th, vowing his support and his will to fight. He encouraged officers to stand up for their beliefs and continue to voice their opinions.

It appears that the relentless pressure from the Honorable City Council President, Ken Sanchez, has crushed the will of the foes involved. So, what does this mean? According to our Eyes it means that as of 6:00 P.M. tonight all 180 plus officers get their cars back! The Honorable Ken Sanchez knew what was right for the officers, right for the citizens and right for public safety. Once again, maybe the “Berry Bad Mistake” folks will take note of this admirable man and follow suit. It should also be noted that the Honorable Governor of the State of New Mexico, Suzanna Martinez, placed a moratorium on the purchase of any new cars for the State of New Mexico, except for public safety. Simply said, public safety must come first. For those in the Berry Administration who keep missing this important point, we can pull out the crayons and draw you a picture that you might be able to understand.

We can only wonder what statement, if any White will make. It was his idea after all to take the cars away. Do you think he had an epiphany? The timing of his epiphany comes into question, as the Vote of No Confidence is due to be voted on in less than three weeks. Is he hoping officers will think he is the hero, and it is because of him that the cars are back? Give credit where credit is due. In fact next time you see Ken Sanchez, tell him "Thank You…Thank you for doing your job, thank you for being fair, thank you for your hard work, and most of all thank you for not allowing yourself to be bullied.”

A special recognition must be given to Councilor Debbie O’Malley for standing up and voicing her thoughts, also!

Don't trust the compromise. You will all still get F _ ked if Darren is involved.

I have heard we gave up thousands in incentives. I hope the APOA members get to vote on this before it is signed. I am about due for my first retention incentive, and I live in the city. If Joey gave that up, he just cost me $5,000.

Does anybody know?

Anonymous said...

I am not thanking anybody until I hear what we gave up. KOB said we lost some incentives but I don't know which one.

Hold your panties EYE, until we know the full story. This may not be the love fest you think it is.

4 Q. Was Darren White, through his wife, getting

5 information to you and Erica about the investigation?

6 A. That is absolutely correct.

7 Q. And how was he doing that?

8 A. She(Darren's wife) was texting my wife on a hourly, if not

9 daily basis, giving us all the details of every

10 little background thing that was going on with this

11 investigation.

12 Q. And that was being passed to you from

13 Darren White through his wife?

14 A. That's correct.

TT, Page 272, Lines 18-25

18 Q. Sir, isn't it true that you told the FBI

19 agents during this April 2010 interview that if they

20 would subpoena text messages of your wife, they would

21 learn this information that Darren White had been

22 giving to you?

23 A. It's right there in that transcript.

24 Q. To your knowledge, did they ever subpoena

25 your wife's phone?

WTF... This is supposed to all of a sudden make Darren competent?
Good luck with this deal. i would highly suggest a vote of the rank and file be taken before you are sold down the river on this deal.
I would rather let them have the cars back and take the monies that I'm do and buy my own damn car. This way I've got an asset that is mine to keep. This is no DEAL.
In exchange for this the "no confidence' vote is now off the table?
The vote of no confidence should still move forward as planned.

Anonymous said...

How is the world did you agree to this deal? The entire department gave up $42,000, getting your student loans paid off, and new hires don’t get any housing incentive? All so 180 people could keep their cars. PLUS the take home car clause is grandfathered. Any new hire that lives outside city limit won’t get a take home car.

You guys got screwed. It seems like you gave up about twice what the take home cars would have cost. You might want to ask your union to take the knife out of your back.

Bad Attitude said...

JHC, wake the fuck up.

All retention bonuses remain in effect until July 1, 2011. They were going to get taken away anyway.

Housing down payment payback. I tried and got DENIED. I don't know any cop that got it and my understanding is that there were very few.

Student Loan Repayment. Again I tried and got buried in red tape. I also know NOBODY who got this perk.

Vote of No Confidence on White. Still moving forward and I still plan on voting in support of the motion. Duck Farren!

Is it perfect? Hardly. But define what perfect is and see if that's really obtainable.

Anonymous said...

Great article, you know who you can depend on to lead. THANKS KEN!

Anonymous said...

You guys are stupid. Yea, the APOA got what it wanted. Take-home cars. That's it?
What about the rest of Darren's baggage? Certainly worth moving forward on the No confidence vote. Darren got scared and was desperate. So dumb Joey , sold out for 30 pieces of silver.
You go forward with this deal, you're all dumber than I thought.
Claw back take home cars and the City, by their calculations, gains 600K. Now with this BS plan the city gets back $1m.
Oh, by the way, besides this crummy deal, Darren expects the No confidence vote to be removed off the table, AND TJ gets to keep his take - home car to get take-out food.

Anonymous said...

the retention bonus was only available when the dept was trying to maintain the manning levels. Officers knew it was not set in stone. The housing and loan was a program mirrored off of the federal loans. The federal loans are still available. Do you know how many grants and loans are just for cops. Again, this perks were just recruiting tools and everyone knew they would be gone.

Darren needs to get the vote of no confidence. he is a cocky son of a bitch and lies to put himself on a pedastal

Anonymous said...

Officers; dah! Would you want Joey Segala negotiating buying a house for you , or handling your stock portfolio? You know the answer to that.
Maybe he should take some pointers from William Shatner and do a commercial for priceline.com

Another slick willy move by Darren and you have a union president who folds like a cheap suit. You need a Diego, not a Joey.
Oh and by the way make sure all of your union dues go to supporting this mayor in his bid for re-election.

Anonymous said...

Let's make a deal.
Union 0
Darren & Berry 1

And darren gets to keep his job as there will be no vote taken on your confidence in him.

Good job Joey, this was your plan all along. You just got out-foxed

Anonymous said...

Seriously folks, this deal is beyond stupid.
Hey Joey, I've got some land to sell you in Chernobyl.

Anonymous said...

This cost the APOA $1.2 million in bonuses. To say we were going to lose them at contract talks is just stupid. You don't give up this stuff, until you are at contract talks. Now what happens if the mayor demands another pay reduction? We don't have the bonuses to give back to him. So we take it in the shorts.

Why didn't the APOA tell the mayor this would be taken to a vote by the membership? What was the big hurry? Don't the members get to vote on money items anymore? Why have a contract if Joey can just MOU to anything he wants?

Yes I am pissed. I just lost $15,000 for 2012. Don't tell me we were going to lose it anyway, because none of us know that. All I know is this money is gone, we didn't get to vote on it, and the APOA lost $1.2 million in benefits.

Berry and Darren must have been pinching themselves to stop from laughing at Joey and the APOA Board.

We need a no confidence vote in Joey. If Ken Sanchez brokered this bad deal, we need a no confidence in him. Maybe there is still time to stop this and demand a vote of the APOA members. Anybody know? I can't get a straight answer from Joey.

WHY SHOULD DARREN WHITE BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE APD NEVER HOLDS THEIR BOYS ACCOUNTABLE AND DARREN IS ONE OF THE BOYS. LOOK AT OUR IA THEY CANT EVEN DO AN INVESTIGATION UNLESS IT IS FROM BEHIND THEIR DESK. NOTHING IS FAIR IN THIS DEPT AND EVERYONE SAYS GIVE SCHULTZ A CHANCE, HE WAS UNDER CHAVEZ' THUMB. OK HE HAS BEEN CHIEF FOR HOW LONG AND MORALE IS IN THE BUCKET. BERRY RAN ON THE IMPRESSIOIN THAT HE WOULD GET RID OF SCHULTZ AND EVEN IF YOU DIDN'T TALK TO PAUL HEH YOU WERE STILL UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT BERRY WOULD MAKE A CHANGE. I SAW BERRY AT A COMMUNITY MEETING AND HE TOLD ME DIRECTLY THERE WOULD BE A CHANGE.

Anonymous said...

Duck Farren indeed! Hahaha...I am so glad to see this site back up and running...

Anonymous said...

The city was going to take all of these perks when the contract ends in July anyway. I wouldnt be surprised if they came up with the take home car BS as a ploy. Now we voluntarily give up what they were going to take whether we liked it or not. Now its a concession and we agreed to it. Looks like they saved their money and more. I'd be interested in the figures of this deal. Politics as usual, atleast 175 of us have our cars back.

Anonymous said...

Darren's running scared.
"Be afraid, be very afraid"

Meanwhile clueless Berry is so in the dark he can't even follow the shell game.

Just when in hell will the city realize a 'wind fall' of $1M if this affects only those who enlist after July 2011? maybe two classes since then. Each class graduates about 25 X 2 = 50 cadets. 16% live outside the 11 mile radius; that's 8 members of APD that this affects.
Where's the million dollars in savings coming from? what year will that happen. That's ok though. Darren probably has the city council and the 'Ribbon cutter' convinced that $1million will just appear on the books out of no where.

Anonymous said...

Ok so you got your cars back that you had all along and were entitled to.
Does that mean that Darren is a lesser asshole now.
So the $600,000 that the city was going to save they don't need anymore.
So bottom line is that Darren theoretically screwed the city out of $600,000 just to save his own ass, preventing the No- confidence vote from happening? This would have been his THIRD one. this whole think was one big ploy to fool all of you.
VOTE NO CONFIDENCE on Darren and JOEY. ( They're both a couple of political sleep arounds) I think they're called whores and you guys are their Johns that just got a
'hand job'.

Anonymous said...

We gave up these perks for take home cars for 175 officers. What do we have to negotiate with now when they want us to take another 2% cut??? Hell Joey, you gave away retention, longevity and every other incentive we had so you could have your president's suite in DC and your illegal election with Shawn and your wife running a ballot box. I'd love to run a ballot box when I run for a position too!

Hell with Darren, No convidence in the APOA.

Anonymous said...

Good job Joey. Sorry for those of you who thought you were going to use those benefits, but those were just smoke and mirrors. Joey has the hardest job in the department. Dammed if ya do and dammed if ya don't.

I think it was in the best interest of the city and PD to keep the take home car policy. Those of you who live in the city were not safe with the current policy. You were next on the chopping block for you take home Privileges . Thank you Ken Sanchez and Debra O'malley.

We gave up benefits, and we were not even at the contract table. We gave up benefits, and the members were not even consulted or asked to vote. This is a sad day indeed for the APOA.

I hope the officers who were on TV crying about their cars, goes back on TV now and cries a river about the $15,000 incentive we have all lost. Was it worth it? Was the idea of driving your car to and from work worth all the officers losing thousands of dollars?

And to say that we would have lost these benefits anyway is silly at best. Who among us can look into the future and know what is going to happen? And if we were going to lose them, at least we had them to bargain with. Now if the city wants another 2% or more, we can't offer them the incentives because Joey gave them away.

I say we ask Mower if we, the members, can stop this MOU and demand a vote. Please show up at the next APOA meeting and demand that we be allowed to vote on this issue.

It is sad to read this post anymore! Listen to us 34s talking about the department. We are all brothers and sisters and all this crap is destroying us. This department is being torn apart as each day goes on. We are not sticking together but turning on each other. The officers who lost their cars needed them back. And these incentives lost were needed also. Officers are only thinking of themselfs and not as a whole. We need to stop turning on each other!!! This is truely sad and I have never seen things so bad!

First let me say that I am happy that the Officers got their cars back. It was a huge safety issue, with 14 police officers being killed so far in 2011 and Albuquerque being the violent city it is, the cars screamed public safety !!!! Second I do believe that what was taken away in the deal should of been on the contract table and voted on by the members of The A.P.O.A.. There will be more pay cuts in the new contract in my opinion if not a direct pay cut then an increase to what you pay to P.E.R.A. and health care all resulting in a pay cut to you. This is why all your experience officers that can retire are retireing including myself. I have said for years that the A.P.O.A. needs to hire a busness manager that can not be controlled by the city because they do not work for the city they work for the A.P.O.A.. NOT A RETIRED COP. We spend money on billboards ( which I was in favor of ) newspaper ads , and the list goes on. Things that in the long run have achieved nothing. THIRD AND LET ME MAKE THIS CRYSTAL CLEAR TO EVERYONE , I WILL NOT FOR ANY REASON WITHDRAW MY MOTION OF NO CONFIDENCE OF DARREN WHITE !!!! I have gotten information that things are being planned against me. BRING IT ON , I AM NOT SCARED AND I DO NOT RUN ! Last just let me say that I have always stood up for the rank and file of Police Department and always treated all of you with the respect you derserve. I know the powers to be are thankful they are finally getting rid of me, all I can say is be careful what you wish for. Once I am retired I will continue to stand up for all of you.

Bad Attitude said...

Funny, the 80 or so cops that will get their retention bonuses between now and July 1, 2011 sound just as pathetic as new hires that were lured here with the sign on bonus.

Just pathetic and disgraceful. After 18+ years you're staying because of a retention bonus? If it's that important to you then I guess we all know you'll be leaving. The retention bonus came with this current contract and it will go with it.

The city can make up whatever stupid math they want, AND the stupid media can report it, but the fact is between now and July 1, the city's overhead just went up. After July 1, it will go up again because this contract will be a fight.

Darren WILL get his 2nd vote of no confidence. Schultz needs to go. AND you senior officers need to step up and start showing some leadership because the last time I checked it seems only Paul Heh and Jan Olstead have any guts.

Good job APOA, why you work so hard when so many people are apathetic or just resentful BECAUSE THEY SIT ON THE SIDELINES is beyond me.

Anonymous said...

"The officers who lost their cars needed them back. And these incentives lost were needed also."

Really? They were needed also? Why? Your post made no sense, Typical BS... Glad you got your car back at the expense of the entire department. The entire department got screwed by this backdoor deal.. Joey and the rest of the clan knew that it wouldn't pass if it went to a membership vote... Hey Joey, you were never a cop and you still are not.. Remember that one day you will have to come out of the cave that you have been hiding your entire career and actually work side by side with the people you have screwed..Sick

Anonymous said...

As a civilian, I agreed with taking the cars from those who live outside the 11 mile radius. After all It was the mayor (in name only) and Mr. power, the financial wizard of the fifth floor( Public safety Czar, White) who touted a $600,000 savings that the City of Albuquerque would realize for implementing this policy. I fail to see where a million dollars is going to be realized for this 180 degree turn-about.
In other words, the public is supposed to swallow this red herring. So as I understand it; the union made a deal with Darren in exchange for them NOT holding a 'Vote of NO CONFIDENCE' on him. That about right?
So bottom line, the taxpayers have been duped $600,000 so Darren can keep his job, that was supposed to be eliminated in the first place.
Here's a better suggestion.
Take away the cars, pay Darren his yearly salary ($150,000 with perks) to go home and the city will still be ahead $450,000.
Question; Why does Darren White get to make this decision to reverse this policy on his own?
Where the hell is our Mayor, COA Campbell or the City Council for that matter in all of this?

Anonymous said...

Darren White has so much baggage these days, what with civil rights law suites he has lost, totaling almost $1 million, the involvement with the Ahrensfield/Shawn Bryan debacle, possible perjury charges pending, Las Vegas domestic abuse rumor, and a slew of other questionable dealings, not to mention a possible THIRD vote of NO CONFIDENCE, is anyone else scratching their head besides me and wondering why he IS or should CONTINUE to be Public Safety Director for the City of Albuquerque?
ANYONE???

Anonymous said...

The cops have been gouging the public for years when they drive their cop cars to Lowes or the movies. They have too big an ego to realize that everyone is suffering these days and we ALL need to tighhten the belts. My job is just as hard as yours - no one on APD staff could do it!

Funny how here, and at the facebook site, all these officers (who got their cars back)are saying they KNEW we were going to lose our incentive benefits at the next contract, so it was good we gave them up so they could have their cars. WHATTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!! Using that logic why don't we just call Mayor Berry up now and give up something else. Heck we all know the city is broke and is going to want more money from us. Let's give it to them now, outside the contract talks. This is just nuts!!

This MOU was done to satisfy a few officers who lost their cars and did not want to wait for the lawsuit to go to court. There it was said. They cost all of us a lot of money, so they could park a police car in their driveway. The car is gone when you retire. The incentive money is yours to take with you when you retire. Why couldn't they and the APOA leadership see this? The APOA is supposed to represent all of us, in this case they did not.

I hope everyone shows up at the next meeting and we stop this and get a vote on the issue. If we have to go to court to get the APOA to hear us, so be it. There is too much at stake for the APOA to just hand back our hard fought incentives.

Amazing. Everyone knows things are headed to get worse come July. We were already over budget on the incentive bonuses and could loose them tomorrow. The cars have long been used as a recruiting tool and should have been granfathered. There is a big difference in taking a job hereknowing that you must live in the city limits and having a car....picking a place to live 12 miles from the Big I and loosing your car 6 years later. You people better wake up. The APOA did right on this deal. The incentive bonuses affect less than 5% of the department and will not be there after July no matter. Take home cars were affecting 18%. The lawsuit would have been a year or more out and the way things are going we would loose...leaving us with no take home cars and no bonuses. As for Darren....the vote will go forward...wont mean anything...things will get much worse no matter what we do. As for the citizen who cant swallow this...if you believe that the city was going to save $600000 by taking the cars then you are an idiot. They were not counting the modifications to substations that would have to be made...parking lot modifications...not to mention extra money in overtime that you would have to pay the officers going to get thier cars to and from court. The whole thing was a power play against the APOA. Instead of fighting against them you should stand behind them...if they fall we all fall.

Anonymous said...

9:54 makes good points, but most of us disagree about the cars and incentives. It was wrong to give up the incentives without a vote. Walk away from the table if you have to, but let the members vote on compensation.

You are right on the money with everything else. We are going to take it in the shorts with the next contract. I worry that the cash outs are going to be attacked. Tough times are here, I hope the APOA leadership slows down and has the membership vote on issues. Let the members make some of these decisions.

Anonymous said...

The incentive bonuses affect less than 5% of the department

Is this really what the APOA is thinking? This is far worse than I thought. The ignorance on the department is beyond repair with statements like this. Hell with brains like this, lets just give away college incentives, fto pay and shift differentials come July also, Hell, they are probably going to take them away anyways. Joey is a sell out- BOTTOM LINE!
